shoes: Salomon Trail

Trotted around last nights Night O course collecting flags.

Orienteering (Club training weekend) 26:00 [3] **** 2.2 km (11:49 / km) +100m 9:38 / km
spiked:10/10c shoes: Inov8 Oroc 350

Bush sprint set by Briohny (she didn't come up so flags put out by Deb). Again took it pretty steady, concentrating on technique and was pleased with a pretty clean run. Also stopped to assist some less experienced clubmates on 3 different occasions, the last time to warn them to keep clear of the spot where I almost stepped on a brown snake! I reckon this is the first time I have actually seen a snake whilst competing, as opposed to course setting or mapping, when I have seen plenty! Will be very happy if it is also the last:-)

Orienteering (Club training weekend) 1:05:00 [2] ****
shoes: Salomon Trail

Training exercise at Buckenderra, concentrating on contours. Didn't go hard as cold still a nuisance and it was also pretty warm today. Spent one leg with another club member working on his technique.
6 PM

Orienteering (Club training weekend) 50:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Trail

Walked around Buckenderra village putting out flags for tonight's Night O.

Running 36:30 [2] 6.0 km (6:05 / km)
shoes: Salomon Trail

Morning run with Briohny and Darcy in Rawlings Park. Quite dark now at this time of the morning but a nice run. Darcy enjoyed himself as usual, splashing in the ponds and stopping to sniff all the good smells! I struggled in the second half with my cold refusing to let go, even had trouble keeping up with my 7 months pregnant daughter in the latter part:-)

Orienteering (Summer Series) 42:05 [3] 6.7 km (6:17 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Summer series out at the old home suburb of Tatton. Coming off 2 days (Tues and Wed) off work with cold/flu thing so wasn't going to go too hard today. Opted for the higher west part first then plan was to go south and east. Picked up most of the controls south before deciding to cross Plumpton Rd to the east. Shouldn't have bothered as I ran out of steam (oxygen actually) with chest still very congested. Had to walk most of the way to the closest control on that side (luckily a high scorer) before turning around and walk/jog back across Plumpton and back to the finish. PIcked up 3 more coming home at a very slow rate.

Reasonably happy with the effort considering my condition and the temperature, which was probably the hottest we have had all series. Unfortunately I seem to have passed my cold on to Deb:-(

Running 32:45 [3] 5.5 km (5:57 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Morning lap of the Lake with Briohny. Car park full at the dog park today so lots of people out and about. Cooler today so nice for running but I think I might be getting a cold....

Orienteering race (Sprint) 17:00 [5] 3.0 km (5:40 / km) +80m 5:00 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Summer Series Sprint at Charles Sturt Uni. Nice course around the CSU map, a rare full SI event for us, although should be more in the future when we get more units.

Minor hickup just after the start as the first control was wrongly placed. Being one of the first starters, I ran back to the start to advise the organiser who asked me to relocate it. Ran back and it was gone! Briohny, who started just after me and ran a different route, had already moved it! I have adjusted my time by about 2.5 mins to compensate!

Nice flow through the buildings for the first few but poor route choice to 5 cost me about 30 seconds then back on track with no major errors. Very humid and a few spots of rain. I forgot my hat and my eyes were soon stinging from sweat!

Running (Tempo) 40:00 [4] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon Trail

Another Sunday, another different session. Tempo run on Moruya North Beach. Deb and I had a nice weekend down at Bateman's Bay and we went down to Broulee for a run on the beach this morning. Started with Deb and headed south along the beach. I did a 1km warmup then did a 6 km (3 down, 3 back) tempo session at about 4:45 - 4:50 pace (fast for me) followed by a 1 km cool down at the end. Found the 2nd half tough, trying to keep the pace at that uncomfortable level and also feeling very hungry as hadn't had brekkie, but a good session. Deb did about 5km in around 30 minutes. Magic conditions on the beach, cool and light breeze. A quick splash in the waves afterwards was very refreshing.

Running 32:40 [3] 5.5 km (5:56 / km)
shoes: Salomon Trail

Morning lap of the Lake with Briohny. Had a nice chat about things that are coming up: Orienteering events, dinners, babies (well one baby anyway!) So many people out and seemed to be more than usual numbers running.

Orienteering race (Street Series ) 40:52 [5] 7.1 mi (5:45 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Street event in Glenfield. Keith's first attempt at setting and he did a great job. I decided on an outside loop to try and pick up as many of the high scorers. All was going fine until it started to rain and my map (no bag) rapidly turned to sog. Found a copy of our local free newspaper and took it out of the plastic bag to try and save the map but it was too late. Had to rely on memory for the last few and came back early. Still had a good run.

Running hills 1:06:45 [3] 11.3 km (5:54 / km) +200m 5:26 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Decided on doing some hills this morning. From home across to Willan's Hill and onto the fire trails along the quite steeply undulating lower track, across Stanley St and then a steep slog up to the top of the Tolland ridge. Nice downhill to Red Hill Rd then up again to the top of the Bourkelands ridge. Steep downhill and back onto the streets in Tatton and then a flat section along Plumpton and Kooringal Rds. Finished with the climb up from Kooringal Rd to Simpkin and Churchill and home. Good hitout but expecting the quads might be a bit tight tomorrow.

Running race (Road Runners) 36:50 [5] 7.6 km (4:51 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

First official Road Runners event for the year. At the Beach and course was the same as the unofficial runs during January.

Found myself in the first 6 or 7 out of the start and managed to stay there along the single track along the river. Once we moved up to the road, Fitzy went past me but surprisingly no one else. Was feeling good so kept the pace a little faster than normal. Started to slowly reel in Angus who was in front of me as we turned at the railway viaduct but I couldn't quite get him and he pulled away a little in the last 500m. Very happy with the run overall.

Orienteering race (Street O) 43:03 [5] 7.6 km (5:40 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Street event in Turvey Park/Mt Austin set by Briohny. Good choice of controls with higher values around map edge with climb. I did a circuit around the edge with the climb early, picking up all the high value controls. Realised late that I might be able to get all the controls but a small time loss early meant I would be cutting it too close so missed 2 of the low value ones near the start/finish. Nice running conditions with a little rain and cool temps.
