Orienteering race 1:37:11 [3] 5.5 km (17:40 / km) +180m 15:11 / km

Day 2 of US classics at EMPO

Again, really terrific courses and terrain. I felt like I was moving faster today, at least up to 8 and had no real difficulties until then. Slowed down a lot going to 8 and then 9 because of the steep, tough terrain. Lost a few minutes at 10 because I was too high on the hill and didn't relocate immediately. I was surprised that I placed so far down today because I though my run was slightly better than yesterday and the course maybe a tinge more difficult. It will be interesting to look at the splits but no time tonight.

Orienteering race 1:33:58 [3] 5.3 km (17:44 / km) +200m 14:55 / km

EMPO A meet, US Classic Champs, F45

Really nice terrain with lots of contour, water and cliff detail but little green and not a lot of rock underfoot. Terrific courses as well with lots of route choices. I could tell it would lend itself to parallel errors and difficult to relocate areas so I was very slow and careful. Lost time on 3, heading up to E/W trail but hitting the N/S one and heading right on it for a bit. Then realizing my mistake and turned around and headed up to the trail I wanted. Lost a minute or so at 10, just not concentrating and not really seeing the indistinct trail. Saw the big low area with big cliff and relocated.

Running (Hash) 1:20:00 [3] 5.0 mi (16:00 / mi)

Set by John and Kim from their house, winding around thru Plishner, both sides of Putnam, down Jacob Ln, and then up the power line to their house. Ran it with Russell only. At first we thought it was the rain and darkness that kept people away but then found out the hash flash might not have gotten to everyone. Not sure why.
