Orienteering race 1:29:50 [3] 6.8 km (13:13 / km) +120m 12:08 / km

NAOC, Classic Distance, Green X, Klondike State Forest.

No rain so I was able to read the map. It was very humid and overcast so my magnifying glasses fogged a lot but I could mostly see out of them by wiping them with a tissue. I borrowed some of Lex's 2x contacts for use in just one eye to see if they might be better. No significant mistakes. It was a good course with lots of route choices and technical terrain but enough trail options and runnable woods to make it fun. There were places where I hesitated too much and walked a lot because I couldn't read the map on the run and probably some routes where I would have been faster to take the trail than going thru the swamps (mainly 4). Garmin says 4.87 miles.

Orienteering race 1:12:00 [2] 3.9 km (18:28 / km) +105m 16:16 / km

NAOC, Middle Distance, Salmon Fish Hatchery map, Green x

The pouring rain fogged my glasses and magnifier so much that it was really an exercise in futility from nearing control 3 to the end. Lost time at 3 and 4 and then kind of figured out that I could treat it as a rogaine map and just look for large features and do a lot of pointing and shooting. Walked and hesitated a lot the rest of the way but didn't get too far off. Very disappointing because the map and terrain seemed terrific.
