From Walnut and Broadway St. in St. Louis, MO to the Arch in the Jefferson National Expansion Park, along the river to the Mississippi River Trail (MRT) which is also know as the
St. Louis Riverfront Trail, up to Mile Mark 3 and back (this trail, in pieces now, is supposed to go from New Orleans, 2,000 miles to Lake Itasca where I was earlier this summer). I had some time before my flight back home to sneak this run in and checkout the landscape along the Mississippi. The park grounds were nice but going up river it quickly deteriated. First a gambling casino, then an old factory or power plant then some other industrial buildings. Finally hitting the trail it slowly got nicer but much of what I saw were rail yards, sand & gravel operations,
flood retaining walls, dykes and other brown zones. The shoreline was often obscured by trees or the wall, etc... The trail started with a nice
freeze on the retaining wall and just before my turn around there was a mural and information on an 1855 Underground Railway that operated there. The whole run was in steady rain, 60F. The longer I went the more I started feeling heavy in my wicking shirt and wet sweat top. I took my jacket to start off warm and protect my electronic car key. It felt much better taking it off but not as good as Tuesday night. Splits along the trail: 6:49, 6:44, 6:48 (30:25 turn around), 6:39, 13:26 (for 2 miles). Going out I had gotten off course just a bit not being sure on which side of the retaining wall the trail was in a few places.
