Orienteering (Foot) 1:30:34 [2] ** 3.92 mi (23:06 / mi)
slept:7.0 weight:179.5lbs

Laurel, MD. Jan and Dasa Merka had setup a nice score-o event for kids. The course was through their neighborhood. Max rode his bicycle while I ran along. I had forgotten to bring a compass for Max to use but it was probably better without it. He's shakey enough on a bicycle that he didn't need to be distracted by encumbering his hands. Max planned routes while I oriented the map and reinforced where we were on it. He did pretty well and could demonstrate where we had been on the map. I was impressed with Max's ability to ride his bike through the twisting and sometimes hilly trails. I did help him get up some hills but he was able to go downhill and curve onto narrow foot bridges while keeping in control. I let Max pass one control that he hadn't seen because he was concentrating on his riding. At another, he was just short of seeing a streamer on a field edge and it took some convincing to get him to look in the right area again. He was getting pretty tired toward the end but seeing one of the other kids with his dad did reenergize him enough to finish and get all the controls.
