Orienteering race 17:07 [4] *** 2.98 km (5:45 / km) +13m 5:37 / km
spiked:13/13c shoes: VJ Falcons #1

Team Trials sprint, Haven Hill. A good race, pretty close to perfect, and I managed to overtake several people and not get caught by anyone, I believe. Time loss was due entirely to things like going not going the optimal way around a rootstock. Beyond this, it's all just running speed.

Push-ups 45 [5]

Sit-ups 1:30 [5]

Note

No pull-ups today. I looked around the hotel, but didn't see anything that looked like a particularly suitable chinning bar. Plus I was beat from the early morning to catch the plane.

Unicycling 36:46 [3] 5.92 km (6:13 / km)

To ComComm meeting at Brooks House via Highland (23:29), and back via Turkey Hill (13:17, In The Dim). Making an effort to ride quite fast in both directions.

Push-ups 45 [5]

It's entirely possible that as I do more of these, they're also getting sloppier. Next move will be to go to 2x25 instead of one set of 50, I think.

Sit-ups 1:30 [5]

I think I spotted another ab, which would mean that I'm up to two.

Orienteering race 23:32 [4] *** 2.7 km (8:43 / km)
spiked:14/14c

Pine Banks sprint, head to head with Alexei, Pia, Dean, and Dan Westerburg. Made a better route choice to the first control and got there ahead of everybody, though Alexei wasn't far behind. He slowly pulled away on the next two legs, and I lost sight of him in the green on top of the hill. Never saw anybody else, other than crossing paths with Alexei when he was on #9 and I was on #7.

Course setting 26:25 [1] *** 1.7 km (15:32 / km)
spiked:8/8c

Control pickup with Stephen. I had him navigate a couple of bits after discussing the routes.

Push-ups 45 [5]

The last five were very tough.

Pull-ups 14 [5]

End of the month trials. During the day, I feel all stoked and figure I can surely do 20 or more, but then when the time comes to head out to the garage, I don't feel quite so confident. Almost made 15 — after having relaxed my shoulders, I managed to get started upwards again, but before I quite got my chin over the bar, I stalled, and no amount of kicking my legs could do anything about it.

Orienteering race 1:28:39 [3] *** 8.46 km (10:29 / km) +360m 8:38 / km

West Point Blue. A much nicer and more enjoyable course. Same number of misses as yesterday, but they were much smaller, just overrunning to the next boulder a couple of times, maybe three minutes total time lost. But I also ran low on energy with a couple of km to go, so I wasn't moving very fast for the last four controls. Stiil, nice to have such a clean run in a sweet area on a day that was really quite nice for orienteering.

Note

Stopped at UConn on the way home and checked out Clint's big flower bud. This one has serious potential, and I'm hoping it turns out spectacularly for him.

Orienteering race 1:33:01 [3] *** 7.48 km (12:26 / km) +430m 9:40 / km
spiked:15/17c shoes: VJ Falcons #1

West Point Blue. A pretty uninspired course, and I managed to be pretty much perfect on the boring parts. A few of the legs were actually quite fine, and I managed to screw two of those up, one by about 4 minutes by poor route execution and a bit of misreading the terrain, the other by not being careful enough entering a very detailed area, and having no idea which feature to look on, even though i passed through the circle — had to back up and relocate, losing probably a bit over 5 minutes.

Orienteering race 16:15 [4] *** 2.2 km (7:23 / km)
spiked:20/22c

Sprint set by PG. Off to the right a bit on #2, and left #7 at about a 90 degree angle (in retrospect, I might have been looking at the contour line heading NW from the circle) and went between two of the barracks before correcting. Total errors about 40 seconds, I guess, which amounts to a couple of places. But my time in the chute wasn't too embarrassing, at least.
