Orienteering 50:25 [5] *** 10.0 km (5:03 / km)

Compass sport cup round at Hamsterley. The terrain was pretty bad but the courses were planned to make the best of it. I was a bit bored half way round, but a nice downhill control pick through quarries in the last couple of kms left me feeling positive at the finish. Some tough heather but felt pretty good once I got going and didn't miss much. Good packing on the boys course from SYO!

Running warm up/down 35:00 [2] 7.0 km (5:00 / km)

Looong way to the start and back from the finish = no atmosphere at the assembly. Plus a bit of jogging in the forest park.

Running 1:45:00 [2] 17.0 km (6:11 / km)

Hanging controls in the morning for the SYO score event at Greno. Took a lot longer than I had anticipated, especially when I dropped one and had to retrace my steps for a couple of kms. Time was short by the end.

After the club social went out and picked up the remaining controls. Had to move quickly to get finished before it got dark.

Tempo run up Rivelin and the Coppice Track. Chucking it down and freezing so needed to run fast to stay warm.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

Start and end of the run at an easier pace.

Climbing 1:00:00 [1]

Spot of climbing at the works, quite a few down there tonight, climbing mainly with Al and Nails.

To the club house to pay some debts then the Loxley run in the dark with Jen. Very muddy.

I finished my thesis today! Now my brain is totally frazzled.

Into Uni library for a book and back. The book was bulkier than I expected so good training for carrying unwieldy waterproof maps.

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3] 11.0 km (6:22 / km)

Some night orienteering on Eccy woods. It was raining and cold, but it just didn't seem to matter, Clare had planned a really enjoyable course and it felt great to get absorbed in some tricky orienteering. I found it pretty hard even though I made the map. Three loops at a 'safe' pace plus a bit of warm down jogging.

Hallamshire intervals on a very windy evening. As an easier session than normal we did 5 x 1km with 1 min recovery followed by a shuttle relay on grass. Ran 3.11, 3.08, 3.12, 3.09, 3.14. These may sound like rubbish times, but it really was very windy - the even ones are faster because we only had to do the really windy back straight twice.

To Hallamshire, warm up drills, and back with Rob and a grumpy Mike. I felt pretty rubbish all day and thought about skipping the session, but so far I feel better for it...we will see tomorrow.

Monday Jan 7, 2008 #

Morning run up to Loxley Common and then looping around on the small trails. Got rained on.

Circuits 40:00 [3]

ShUOC circuits. Usual long session, it's gonna hurt tomorrow after a couple of weeks off...

Running 40:00 [2] 7.0 km (5:43 / km)

Run to circuits and back, fairly brisk because I was late.
