Running 30:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

Morning run u to Bolehill, stables and back. Still a bit stiff after the weekend.

Running 30:00 [3] 7.0 km (4:17 / km)

Fastish into the Works (I was late).

Climbing 1:00:00 [1]

At the works with the usual crowd, climbed a few good routes but generally a bit aimless.

Tuesday Sep 29, 2009 #

Running 55:00 [3] 12.0 km (4:35 / km)

Up to Loxley Common and some looping around. Felt really sluggish at the start, but felt much better once I had gotten going, then a bit tired again at the end. Ran a bit harder than I intended to.

Monday Sep 28, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Rest day, legs feel a bit flat.

Sunday Sep 27, 2009 #

Running 3:10:00 [2] 32.0 km (5:56 / km)
shoes: Inov8 x-talons 212

More OMM training, this time with Rob. Took in Bleaklow and Kinder, running about 50/50 in the terrain and on trails. Both felt pretty good all the way and kept up a decent pace. Rob forgot his shoes so was slipping around quite a bit, and I got stuck in a peat bog up to my crotch. If Rob hadn't pulled me out I would have been excavated by archeologists thousands of years in the future, and I would have been the only evidence of 21st century human life. A close shave.

Running 2:40:00 [2] 27.0 km (5:56 / km)
shoes: Inov8 x-talons 212

Nice OMM session with Nails and Camel, out from Fairholmes along the Alport ridge to Bleaklow, then back along the top of Birchins Clough with a big climb up to Alport castles to get back. Ran with a pack (not quite as heavy as John's pack), and ate and drank regularly so felt pretty good, or at least a bit better than a groggy Neil.

Friday Sep 25, 2009 #

Running 30:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)
(rest day)

Steady HFW via Bolehill Park.

Thursday Sep 24, 2009 #

Running 1:35:00 intensity: (45:00 @3) + (50:00 @4) 20.0 km (4:45 / km)

Lunchtime run out to Wharnecliffe and Greno from home. Did fartlek for a little over 50 mins, 6 efforts: 2x5mins up the ramp, 1x1min steep uphill, 1xlap of the timetrial in 14.40, 1x3min downhill, 1x3min flat. Ran with an Inov8 20l racepack, which seemed really good, no bouncing at all.

Wednesday Sep 23, 2009 #

Running 45:00 [3] 10.0 km (4:30 / km)

Decent pace up Loxley Valley at lunchtime. Stopped briefly to eat a few blackberries, yum.

Climbing 1:00:00 [1]

At the works with Neil, Phil and a gaggle of girls. Managed a few hardish routes on a new bit, but then started a bit of a downward spiral. Tired by the end.

Tuesday Sep 22, 2009 #

Running 45:00 [2] 8.0 km (5:38 / km)

IW via foot heaven for a physio screening. I didn't get told off about too much stuff.

Orienteering 15:00 [4] 4.0 km (3:45 / km)

3xsprints with GG around Upperthorpe, etc. Pretty tired, but felt good to be running without a pack.

Running 35:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:50 / km)

To Rach's from uni, to home from Rach's, and back home after the sprints. Complicated.

Monday Sep 21, 2009 #

Running 1:25:00 [3] 18.0 km (4:43 / km)

HFW via Endcliffe parks, lodge moor, top of Rivelin. Bit rainy, and carrying a heavyish pack, but no ill effects after yesterday, so all good.

Sunday Sep 20, 2009 #

Running 2:05:00 intensity: (1:05:00 @2) + (1:00:00 @3) 22.0 km (5:41 / km)

Run with Rob and GG from Edale, basically the triple crossing route, but with a few extra bits added in. Very nice day for it, sunny, hot and ran with tops off for most of the way. Jumped over lots of groughs and generally had fun. Felt much better and cleared myself out of gunk. Good end to the week.

Saturday Sep 19, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Ditto, day 2 of the conference, shattered by the end of it, but at least it's given my cold a chance to get better.

Friday Sep 18, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Pretty much better, but really busy with organising a conference at work, so no time for training.

Tuesday Sep 15, 2009 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Still sick, but a bit better...

Monday Sep 14, 2009 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Yuk, sore throat. Predictable and probably deserved.

Sunday Sep 13, 2009 #

Running 2:15:00 [3] 28.0 km (4:49 / km)

Long run back from Jen's Gran's house in Darton, some of it on the trans-Pennine cycle trail and through Wharnecliffe. Pretty boring route really, all on firm trails and all pretty flat, although I added a couple of hills in towards the end. Ran quite fast and felt good in my legs, but tired in my head, not surprising after a non-stop weekend of fun.

Saturday Sep 12, 2009 #

Running 47:10 [5] 5.0 km (9:26 / km)

Great Kinder Beer Barrel Race, first place and just 19 seconds down on our own WR from two years ago. This year the team was the strongest it has been with Capt'n Pete, Little Rob, Baker, Nails, Speaky, Richard and Tom. Everyone pulled their weight and it seemed like we did everything right, except for three tactical errors: 1. We lost time on the route up to the top of Kinder, 2. we fell in a thigh-deep bog and got stuck for a while, and 3. we were all hung over from Dave and Kathy's wedding the night before. But never mind, it was a great team performance and a great day out!

Running 20:00 [2] 3.0 km (6:40 / km)

Jogging about warming up and faffing about at the finish.

Friday Sep 11, 2009 #

Running 20:00 [2] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

HFW.

Thursday Sep 10, 2009 #

Climbing 45:00 [1]

I was pretty hopeless tonight - too tired after travelling home all morning.

Wednesday Sep 9, 2009 #

Running 25:00 [2] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

Jogging around a really boring sprint course near the centre of Trondheim. Legs pretty tired, good to loosen them up a bit. Followed by ficka and a stroll around the sprint final area.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] 11.0 km (8:11 / km)

Route choice training on a nice area out to the E of the city, where it turns out I ran the nordics many years ago. Tested out routes with GG and Rhoderi, which made it easier to find the motivation in the pouring rain.

Had pizza in the comms tower in the evening, and shared a 1.35l pitcher of beer which cost us 207kr, or a little over £20. Ouch.

Running 15:00 [2] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)

Long run out to the start in the arvo, and a shorter run back.

Tuesday Sep 8, 2009 #

Orienteering 46:00 [4] 7.0 km (6:34 / km)

Middle distance course on a lower-level forest with mixed vegetation and a few more paths. Ran at a decent pace and felt pretty good considering, but made a few mistakes on a less than perfect map.

Running 30:00 [2] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)

Warm up and down on a forest road, felt much better after the session. Also warm up to the start in the arvo, no warm down.

Orienteering 45:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:38 / km)

Another middle-style session, this time on an upland, marshy area with some fine detail. Set off with the other lads to compare route choices, but straight away it turned into a race. I got left behind when I tried a different route around a lake, and ran the rest of it on my own, getting more and more demotivated in the heavy rain. Not a great session, but I guess I got something out of it anyway...

Orienteering 1:25:00 [3] 10.0 km (8:30 / km)

Great session on an upland area above Trondheim, with spectacular views of the fjords. Ran as economically as possible, but you needed to put a bit of effort in just to get around this course, which was planned in a huge circle to take away any chance for a cut-off. One of the nicest orienteering sessions for ages, reminded me of the Warrior O trial in places. The whale felt a bit heavy on some of the hills...

Orienteering 17:30 [4] 4.0 km (4:23 / km)

Sprint training round a nice forest/park course on the fjord. Ran steady but well through the short legs at the start, but then took a poor route choice and tried to miss out the last loop at the end (a leg went straight through the start). Pretty tired!

Running 50:00 [2] 10.0 km (5:00 / km)

To the start and back in the am, then jogged out to the sprint area and back with GG and Helen B. Had the dizziness by the end, good feeling.

Sunday Sep 6, 2009 #

Orienteering 45:00 [5] 8.0 km (5:38 / km)

District champs relay, first leg and a great international field including 2 current world champions also running first. Wasted the opportunity for a fun race with them at no. 1 with a biggish mistake, then ran better for the rest of it mopping up the odd straggler. Really annoying, the terrain was so good, the map 90% blue with all manner of different types of marsh. Rhodri and Dave did a great job on the next two legs.

Running 50:00 [2] 10.0 km (5:00 / km)

20 min morning run with GG and Dave R, then a good warm up and warm down for the relay with Speaky and Francois.

Marsh games (Ultimate frisbee) 30:00 [2]

Feeling unfulfilled by the relay training, so joined the French for a second session. Warmed up with a tough game of marsh ultimate frisbee - GG and I joined the french youngsters and took on the old guys. We won, convincingly.

Running 30:00 [2] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)

Compass training on a nice area close to the edge of Trondheim. Line course of straight lines, managed to stick pretty close to it.

Saturday Sep 5, 2009 #

Orienteering 1:12:00 [5] 10.0 km (7:12 / km)

Trondheim district champs long race, really great terrain with loads of parallel ridges and deep valleys, so tough going. Missed a bit early on, but ran the second half much better. So good to get in some proper soft, wet, muddy Nordic terrain!

Running 25:00 [2] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

Decent warm up and down.

Friday Sep 4, 2009 #

Orienteering race 24:04 [4] 3.5 km (6:53 / km)

Long day of travelling then the district champs 'sprint' race in Trondheim, which was more of a short middle distance - in proper forest on a normal map. Bit late for the start after the flight, but made it just in time, then cruised round the course, which was through some really great marshy stuff and mostly downhill. Nice way to start the camp.

Running 20:00 [2] 3.0 km (6:40 / km)

Up to the start and a bit of jogging about after.

Thursday Sep 3, 2009 #

Running 35:00 [2] 7.0 km (5:00 / km)

Busy day then home from work via the Hallamshire hut to pick some things up, then off to see Dinosaur Jr. Now I can't hear anything.

Wednesday Sep 2, 2009 #

Running 40:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)

To the works via Hunter's Bar and Eccy Road. Not very heavy pack and 2 not very big hills.

Climbing 1:00:00 [1]

Climbing session, mostly with Neil. Cracked a few that I had been stuck on, but failed on a strange upside-down overhead one, which got me tired pretty fast.

Tuesday Sep 1, 2009 #

Running 35:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:50 / km)

HFW via Bolehill Park. Big hill, heavy bag, OMM training has begun. Every journey starts with a small step.
