First tentative attempt at something a bit harder. Out to Blake St for some reps - ran 4xat moderate effort with exercises between pairs. Still not confident enough to really push off or stride out. Times were slow, which is to be expected, but I mean really slow (66, 64, 65, 63). Oh well, it's a start, I hope!

Lunchtime in the cold sunshine. Ran 3x13ish mins with 5mins core exercises between sets. Everything felt more comfortable again today and the pace was a shade faster. Calf soreness now dominating over back and bum, which is simply a normal consequence of a return to running.

Lunchtime run around the park. Went very easy and tried to run with good form, aiming to increase the length of pain-free running a little. Managed 25mins/12mins with exercises between. Still don't feel able to increase speed beyond 5m/km--hamstring and bum are so twitchy--but hoping that will come.

Almost no pain or discomfort and almost felt like a runner, although still moving slowly and focusing on good form. Calves a little stiff from so little running, but otherwise grand. Now to keep calm and not get carried away...

A bit of a breakthrough. This felt a lot easier than previous times and was able to string together a good few lengths without resting to catch my breath. Still dull as ditchwater though.

Out to Barrowhill (near Chesterfield) via Chatsworth. A bit optimistic on the route, which I confidently told Jenny would take less than 90mins. Had to hammer it back from Chatsworth to be only 25 mins late. Lovely morning for it followed by a fine lunch of egg, chips and treacle sponge at the Roundhouse museum.

Struggled to get up when the alarm went off, but glad I did. Rewarded with a beautiful cold, clear morning with a red sunrise. Tired legs on the second climb to Higger and came off the bike on some ice at Ringinglow - fortunately I wasn't moving fast, but I now have a nice wheal and bruise on my (good) hip. Tentative after that.

Lovely day so got out on the bike for another go at the hills. Much quicker this time due mainly to the better wind conditions. There was still a pretty nasty headwind, so it must have been horrible last time. 5.45, 5.51, 5.56. Back a bit better today - I'm wondering whether yesterday's reaction was partly due to the crosstrainer session the day before...will avoid for a few days and see.

Crosstrainer/stair climb session swapping betwen the two. Did 2x10mins hard on the stairs and 2x6mins hard on the xtrainer. Heart rate hit 190 for the first time in ages. Not too bad as a session due to shorter efforts on each machine.

Hathersage, Grindleford and back. Chucking it down with rain and although it was warm, I got cold due to my overly optimistic clothing choice. Hands and feet were hurting so much on the return that I could think of little else. The views were little better than the blank wall I have been staring at in the gym, but it was good to be outside anyway.
