Orienteering race 52:10 intensity: (5:35 @0) + (1 @1) + (13 @2) + (27 @3) + (15:11 @4) + (30:43 @5) 3.5 km (14:54 / km) +140m 12:25 / km
ahr:172 max:193

Blew the first control and lost about 4.5 minutes, then lost another 6 minutes or so on poor map reading. Found the terrain to be technically challenging. Was surprised a few times how the bag seems to be located in a well protected pocket within pretty thick blueberry.

Figuring out reasonable routes on a sprint course always seems so easy after the race, but can be ridiculously challenging during the run. Once I turned over the map, I found myself spending way too much time trying to fold the map, that I was sloppy to 1 and was totally off to 2. Don't know what happened on the way to 8, but it wasn't good. All in all, at least 3 minutes in errors which is a killer in a sprint.

Nevertheless, I thought it was a great course.

Hatter's Return Classic. Great map and really enjoyable course. Was having a pretty good run until I hit the "mature" mt laurel and messed up 12 & 13. Then my brain totally turned off on 15.

Just purchased a Garmin 305, and am looking forward to using the data to figure out what I'm doing well and how I lead myself into disaster. Quickroute is very cool... and sobering.

The good: pretty clean runs on 12.5 of the 17 controls.
The bad: going to 8, I allowed myself to go to far to the right and hit the uncrossable fence.
The ugly: 12 - imprecise map contact, no attack point, inefficient relocation.
The ugly: 13 - imprecise map contact, no attack point, inefficient relocation.
The ugly: 15 - brain dead, no distance estimation
About 35 minutes of ugliness in there...
