Orienteering 1:05:34 [3] 3.49 mi (18:47 / mi) +102m 17:14 / mi

A very slow, cautious run, I felt. Couldn't seem to drum up any competitive spirit to really push myself to go very fast. Nervous around the gully crossings and tentative throughout. Still, was pretty clean and made my goal of N/2-1 for the course as a whole. Not as good for the class, but there are some pretty tough women here. Nice woods, which didn't slow down the runners enough.

Lots of back-and-forth (did I lock the car, which way should I go, what does it say on the trail sign) so it was not a smooth hike. But it was fun and interesting and a good one for this day before the US Champs. And THE SUN WAS OUT!!

Shenandoah National Park.I left later in the day with the hope that the clearing scheduled for early evening might arrive a few hours early. No such luck. I considered another waterfall hike, but that presented more elevation change than I wanted this close to the weekend. So I headed out on the Riprap trail to Chimney Rock. The views were not there at all, due to the fog, but an enjoyable hike anyway. Actually saw a couple on the trail on my way back out. Was very surprised to find anyone else interested in a day hike such as that in the weather.

Upper and Lower Doyles River Falls in Shenandoah National Park. In cloud the top 1/4 mile, but opened up once you got lower. Was happy to see water in the channel after the rains yesterday. Was a fun hike where I only ran into one large animal with a woman on his back. Was able to cut the estimated time in half from the book I had, imagining the 12 other women in my class this weekend coming up behind me :-).
