Run - Trail 1:41:00 [3] 18.5 km (5:28 / km) +250m 5:07 / km
weight:68.9kg (injured) shoes: Asics Trabuco 12 WR

Unusual loop from Burbage Bridge out to White Edge and back via Grindleford. Beautiful afternoon, almost warm even. Legs were dead happy running, on the flat at least, had to change right down into the low range gear box for hills though. Quads a little tender, presumably due to the hard trails of the past few days rather than the super soft Norwegian bogs. Weight dipped under 69kg; what’s happening to me? I’m wasting away!

Up the Parks to the back of Forge Dam with GG. Nice pace and felt surprisingly good. Happy with that.

Run - Trail 41:30 [4] 9.4 km (4:25 / km) +80m 4:14 / km
weight:69.2kg (injured) shoes: Asics Trabuco 12 WR

Wanted a flat run as not much in the mood fro running. However once out I felt great, almost floating, don’t remember the last time I felt like that. Therefore I ran a little quicker that I was planning. In fact I would actually call it running. Was even pushing it a little at towards the end.

Also appear to have lost another kg over the past three weeks as my weight was under 70kg for the first time since I don’t know when. WOC 2012 here I come!

Walk from Fairholmes with Rachel, Laura, her other half and Charlie. Started out nice and sunny but pissed rain going up Back Tor. Got cold so we came down early. Good food in Hathersage after. Nice. Need to run tomorrow though.

Wanted to run but it’s not as good as Norway. Need to give my self a talking too.

Long, long, day of travel. Back in Sheffield.

Run - Terrain 1:45:00 [3] 15.5 km (6:46 / km) +150m 6:28 / km
(injured) shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR2

Last run in Norway. Back at Jonn Are’s cabin, was planning on an easy 45 but couldn’t resist another foray into the terrain. Did a loop of the main lake. Wild in places but trails in others and a little too much road at the end but I was out long enough by then not to dive back into the bogs. Loved it.

Run - Trail 1:10:00 [3] 8.0 km (8:45 / km) +400m 7:00 / km
(injured) shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR2

Prekestolen (my third time). This time it was a relatively easy run out. Even in rain, mist and floods it only took 35 minutes to get out there and a little less back. Easy. Fun running in the rain but not so good for touristy stuff. Seen it all before though so just enjoyed the day.

Run - Terrain 1:40:00 [3] 10.4 km (9:37 / km) +400m 8:04 / km
(injured) shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR2

Run out to the Kjerag Boulder with GG. Straight lined it. Not a good idea; spent a good 20 minutes climbing down a 100m crag in a wet a slippery gully. Scary. But fun. Run back along the main path was much easier. Hills are still not my friends.

Run - Terrain 1:25:00 [3] 10.0 km (8:30 / km) +400m 7:05 / km
(injured) shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR2

One year on. To mark the anniversary I ran everywhere I could that wasn’t anywhere near a road. Headed out from Jonn Are’s cabin into the woods and went wherever the running was good. By good I mean super soft and wet but tremendous fun (and hard work). Great run; ended up being out nearly twice as long as planned – it’s the type of terrain that just makes me want to run, Lard would have loved it. Didn’t see sight nor sound of a soul let alone a car.

2 PM

Run - Terrain 1:35:00 [3] 15.4 km (6:10 / km) +475m 5:21 / km
(injured) shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR2

Run in the hills with GG from somewhere high up in Norway. Felt crap along the trails at the start but better once in terrain and good by the end. Couldn’t make it up any of the hills though. Amazing area for a run.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Needed a rest day. More mountain and fjord watching undertaken.

2 PM

Run - Terrain 46:00 [5] 9.2 km (5:00 / km) +44m 4:53 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140 (10)

Was happy sitting in the car today but GG persuaded me out to run up the mountain above Geiranger fjord once we discovered that it would cost £10 to drive up it. It really hurt; 5km and 400m climb up a gravel road with no time for a warm up. Started slow and got slower, even had to stop twice as I just couldn’t keep running. GG disappeared about half was up. Great fun coming down though.

4 PM

Run - Terrain 35:00 [3] 5.0 km (7:00 / km) +200m 5:50 / km
(injured) shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR2

Run from the top of Trollstigen over the pass and down the other side with GG. Nice terrain and the river wasn’t too cold either.

Tuesday Aug 17, 2010 #

Run - Terrain 48:00 [3] 7.0 km (6:51 / km) +300m 5:39 / km
(injured) shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR2

Found a gravel road that took us up into the hills which just had to be explored once there. Started off along an old railway which was very pleasant but then headed straight up to the top. That was hard and GG was left with a wait at the top. Fun coming down though. Stunning run.

Note

Headed into the wilds with GG and J in a 1980’s Toyota in search of mountains, woods and fjords.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Tired from the terrain running this week so watching the relays was plenty enough for me. Good steady results from the boys and girls and an exciting event to watch.

10 AM

Run - Orienteering race 56:00 [5] 6.8 km (8:14 / km) +140m 7:28 / km
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

Last day of the WOC spectator races. Back into the classic terrain, again nice but not outstanding (the qualifying areas were nicer). Orienteered better today but was so very tired by about half way.

Run - Trail warm up/down 12:30 [2] 2.2 km (5:41 / km)
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

10 AM

Run - Orienteering race 36:00 [5] 4.9 km (7:21 / km)
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

Tried hard at the start but made an arse of the 4th. Struggling on hills but happy in the terrain. Forest nice it bits and not so in others. Not the best area that I have seen for a WOC final terrain.
11 AM

Run - Trail warm up/down 15:00 [1] 2.2 km (6:49 / km)
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

12 PM

Run - Orienteering 45:00 [3] 3.2 km (14:04 / km)
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

Shadowed Roz around a shorter course as she was lacking a bit of confidence after the qualifying races didn’t go as well as she would have liked. Needs more time in this terrain and to learn to how to estimate height better, but on the whole it was just that lacking of confidence.

Sprint race day. Not worth it for me. Nice day watching and being lazy.

Run - Orienteering race 59:00 [5] 6.2 km (9:31 / km) +130m 8:37 / km
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

Tried to run hard today as I wanted to beat a few of the squad boys who were running. Wasn’t happening though, not enough strength for a few days in this terrain. Great area though and really enjoyed it. Also was out of practice at trying to race in this terrain.

Run - Trail warm up/down 15:00 [2] 1.8 mi (8:20 / mi) +150m 6:37 / mi
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

Run - Trail warm up/down 14:00 [2] 2.5 km (5:36 / km) +70m 4:55 / km

Run - Orienteering race 56:00 [5] 6.8 km (8:14 / km) +225m 7:04 / km
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

Shadowed Colm H around the first day WOC entry-on-the-day race. First priority for me was to keep up. Managed that and the boy did good; needs to read ahead a little more and be able to pick out more detail but that's about it.

Saturday Aug 7, 2010 #

Run - Orienteering 20:00 [3] 3.0 mi (6:40 / mi) +100m 6:02 / mi

Quick session in a Norwegian wood. Nice, but tough and I'm not strong.

Friday Aug 6, 2010 #

Run - Orienteering 45:00 [4] 5.0 km (9:00 / km) +150m 7:50 / km
(injured) shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR2

Sprint training map in Trondheim. Nice mix of wood and urban, but legs dead and it was pretty hot. Shoes not wore in yet.

Finished mapping Dinnington School and was planning on spending some time on Ponderosa but my back wasn't so keen on the latter.

weight:70.2kg (injured) shoes: Asics 2140 (10)

Limb Valley and Lady Cannings from home. Felt quite bouncy at the start but was quite a lot less so at the end. Nice day out to be out, though my left ankle was again a little sore at the start, which moved to my right hip for the mid section before moving up to my right shoulder for the end. Definitely not all fixed yet.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Rest day; not all that tired but don’t want to over do it either – it’s not like there’s anything to be fit for in the autumn.

Spent the morning mapping a school in Dinnington (either empty playing fields or nettle filled woods) – couldn’t do the buildings though as they were fenced in and staff aren’t there on the weekends. I hate these fences they put around schools, they are just so pointless (I found 3 very easy places that one could get in if so inclined) and it makes the place feel and look like a prison.
