Note
(sick)

Just about better, should be running tomorrow, will be bouncing off the walls if I don't get to do something soon anyways.
Great weekend at the SHIs (even without running), I always enjoy this event, guess it's unique in that a lot of elites stay together for the weekend so it's always very social.

Note
(sick)

SHI individual on Carlingford, although I was again a spectator. Wanted to be out there even more today as the mist was down and the course stuck in the technical but, resulting in many epic mistakes. This terrain, in this weather is right up my street so it really hurt not being able to run. Again plenty of strong performances (with both Jack and Toni taking victories) but unfortunately one short of claiming a historic victory over England, Scotland not too far ahead either so in all a pretty good weekend for the team.

SHI Relays, although not for me as I had been super-subbed by Mr Rocks. Looked so much fun and was a great area for spectating (in the good weather that we had at least) and wanted to be running so much. Strong performance from the lads saw them finish third and well in contention with the leading teams (and ahead of Wales' super-team).

Note
(sick)

Improving but still coughing, fairly sure that I won't be well enough to race tomorrow and Sunday is still very sketchy. Going to go anyway but hope that a sub can be fund for the orienteering.

Thursday Sep 26, 2013 #

Note
(sick)

Not improving. Odds of racing on the weekend are looking slim at best.

Note
(sick)

Throat all bleugh but otherwise all grand. Still, would not be sensible to do anything.

Note

Anyone spot the difference?

Prize going to the person who correctly identifies the location of the body.

In other news I'm back to a stuffy head and dribbling nose, so obviously not over last weeks inconveniences.

Run - Trail 1:22:08 intensity: (36 @0) + (10:34 @1) + (31:57 @2) + (26:39 @3) + (7:08 @4) + (5:14 @5) 11.89 km (6:54 / km) +282m 6:10 / km
ahr:135 max:174 shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite

Great evening run with the younger generation of BOK boys (you can tell by the quality of the banter and that they need to grown a few man hairs on their chest) somewhere out Bath direction. Thankfully the pace was easy as my body still feels exhausted - but I think that's due to the residue of whatever I had last week. The sun even came out as we headed east (been hiding in cloud for the last 3 days here) - bit dark by the end but those of us with intelligence came prepared with headlights.

8 AM

Run - Terrain 1:24:45 intensity: (45 @1) + (7:44 @2) + (31:32 @3) + (42:10 @4) + (2:34 @5) 9.22 km (9:12 / km) +288m 7:57 / km
ahr:149 max:168 shoes: Jalas 2010

Again, not much in the way of map reading needed. Checked all controls (moved three slightly) and woke them all up. No problems other than it took 20 minutes longer than i was expecting. Maybe today will be a long day for some...
2 PM

Run - Terrain 29:15 intensity: (3 @0) + (6:27 @1) + (11:40 @2) + (10:46 @3) + (19 @4) 2.17 km (13:30 / km) +116m 10:39 / km
ahr:129 max:151 shoes: Jalas 2010

Control collecting, didn't bother with the map this time. No complaints about the map or the courses, just the forest and the course lengths. I thought the forest was nice and runnerable - probably a good job that it wasn't somewhere I'd consider rough!

Saturday Sep 21, 2013 #

4 PM

Run - Orienteering 58:40 intensity: (5:00 @1) + (31:00 @2) + (19:00 @3) + (3:40 @4) 4.88 km (12:01 / km) +224m 9:47 / km
shoes: Jalas 2010

Control hanging. Not really orienteering though as I knew where everything was. Misty and eerie in the woods, especially in the areas when the moss hangs from the trees. Done just in time before dark.

Mapping 1:00:00 [0]

About 7 hours mapping three schools in Berhampsted. Long day. Legs tired. Need to run. But not today.

Thursday Sep 19, 2013 #

Note

Didn't manage to fit a run in but did get everything else done (just). Watching the ToB was great.

Wednesday Sep 18, 2013 #

Note
(sick)

Expecting to feel 'orrible to today but aside from a little nose leakage and fierce itchy eyes, I was grand. Should be back into it tomorrow (if I can find time between sorting out mapping work, watching the tour (on Caerphilly mountain) and going to Oxford).

Tuesday Sep 17, 2013 #

Note
(sick)

Got a cold, boo. However, it is only my second in well over a year so can't complain too much.

Monday Sep 16, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Not really enough time without running into work, and I couldn't face that this morning. Good walk instead.

Run - Orienteering 20:00 [1]
shoes: Jalas 2010

Collecting a few controls after a long and cold, but fun watching the JHI relays. Ireland ended up so so close to Wales but unfortunately just behind, great effort from all the team though on a good tough weekends orienteering. Especially Zac who apparently played a blunder (edit: that should read blunder - fat fingers on my behalf) at the social...

Note
(rest day)

Taking my comeback to training easy, not wanting to do too many days in a row as I'm knackered enough already.

Run - Trail 55:11 intensity: (9 @0) + (47 @1) + (5:57 @2) + (18:09 @3) + (24:40 @4) + (5:29 @5) 10.06 km (5:29 / km) +295m 4:47 / km
ahr:152 max:183 shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR4

Nice wee run up The Garth with Ed and Chris and two of his mates. Misted evening made it dark in the woods when heading out and very dark in the woods on the way back. Not moving all that quickly but I wasn't capable of much more, though I did push almost as hard as I could on the final climb to the summit. The wee woods coming off the hill (Coed Rhiw'r Ceilog) are screaming for a forest sprint map; unbelievably clean woods and full of mine workings.

Run - Trail 39:33 intensity: (13 @0) + (26 @1) + (2:42 @2) + (7:18 @3) + (28:44 @4) + (10 @5) 8.35 km (4:44 / km) +12m 4:42 / km
ahr:150 max:166 shoes: Asics 1150 (2010)

HFW. Lungs didn't feel like they were trying but my legs did, they even wanted a rest on several occasions, but I didn't let them. Enjoyed it but it was much more like hard work than a run this slow should be. A wet run fort he first time in...?

Run - Trail 1:07:11 intensity: (26 @0) + (3:25 @1) + (25:54 @2) + (23:15 @3) + (10:39 @4) + (3:32 @5) 11.04 km (6:05 / km) +235m 5:30 / km
ahr:138 max:179 shoes: Saucony Excursion TR5

MDC run from Saint Brides on an absolute cracker or an evening. Setting sun over the coastal cliffs and beach was just stunning. Followed by amazing food from Kay afterwards. Quality.

Got pulled over by a police car on the way for driving with my headlights on (at 6pm), it wasn't intentional but as far as I know there's nothing in the Rules of the road about driving before dark with headlights on and besides, there was a low sun already so being visible should have been a good thing, no?

Monday Sep 9, 2013 #

6 PM

Run - Trail 53:40 intensity: (58 @1) + (13:16 @2) + (15:42 @3) + (20:20 @4) + (3:24 @5) 8.6 km (6:15 / km) +296m 5:20 / km
ahr:146 max:176 shoes: Asics 1150 (2010)

Quick trip out to the Wenallt for some exploring after work, wasn't much up for it but it was a glorious evening and would have been a crime not to do something. Explored a few new footpaths a actually enjoyed myself, but it would have been hard not to with the setting sun streaming through the beech woods. Even felt quite good on the final hill!

Car was was occupied by a number of single middle age men who sat in their cars with the engine running... Feeling that they may think that I was a perfect fit for their demographic I didn't hang around for too long!

Note
(rest day)

After feeling so bad yesterday opted for some recovery today and spent an enjoyable morning wandering around Harlow Carr with the family while orienteers were running all over the shop.

Saturday Sep 7, 2013 #

10 AM

Run - Trail 1:47:21 intensity: (22 @0) + (57 @1) + (15:36 @2) + (42:51 @3) + (40:34 @4) + (7:01 @5) 19.9 km (5:24 / km) +376m 4:56 / km
ahr:147 max:172 shoes: Asics 1150 (2010)

Wanting to do a long run but had to cut it short due to the usual bad feelings; legs, especially quads feeling week, heart rate feeling odd and higher than it should be and feeling dizzy if I did try and push harder. Frustrating but it was a nice run and a nice day to be out and I know that without the issues then I would have been running grand.

Friday Sep 6, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Wet and feeling very tired.

Thursday Sep 5, 2013 #

Event: The Heb

11 AM

Run - Trail 1:10:06 intensity: (1:23 @1) + (8:29 @2) + (32:26 @3) + (24:08 @4) + (3:40 @5) 12.8 km (5:29 / km) +260m 4:58 / km
ahr:147 max:170 shoes: Asics 1150 (2010)

Easy backwards around The Chevin and Danefield. Feeling horrible in the legs and not improving. Sun was out and bumped into Brownlee Jr on an isolated bit of woodland trail.

Note
(rest day)

Got stuck at work so very disappointingly I missed the MDC run. Have had plenty of things to sort out to fill the time though. A day of rest is also being appreciated by my whinging legs.

Monday Sep 2, 2013 #

Run - Trail 58:50 intensity: (3:27 @0) + (32:30 @1) + (21:44 @2) + (1:09 @3) 5.98 km (9:50 / km) +190m 8:29 / km
ahr:114 max:141 shoes: Asics 1150 (2010)

Very easy jog around Llantrisant with the organiser, letting him know where I wanted the registration, parking, the start etc... Headed for a loop around the area after. Body still feeling very tired so was happy for the very easy pace and enjoyed the evening sunshine.

11 AM

Run - Orienteering race 54:38 intensity: (30 @1) + (14 @2) + (1:17 @3) + (33:45 @4) + (18:52 @5) 8.05 km (6:47 / km) +266m 5:50 / km
ahr:161 max:172 shoes: Jalas 2010

Welsh League, Ogof Ffynnon Ddu, Brown, 7.1km, 295m, 18 controls. Felt pants, though not very surprised as my legs are pretty tired from the past week. Just about managed to keep a run of some sort going but found the long grass and stones disappointingly hard work, even the downhills were slow and wobbly. No mistakes but that probably has more to do with how slow I was moving than anything else. Personal issues aside it was a nice area (last ran here in a National Event in the '90's) and the sun was out.
