7 PM

Run - Trail 39:00 [2] 8.2 km (4:45 / km) +70m 4:34 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Run to Endcliffe to warm up (5 mins) and ten a good (but nice and easy) warm down run up Porter with Danger and ba-ba.

Run - Orienteering 22:25 [4] 4.0 km (5:36 / km) +100m 4:59 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Fun little course around Endcliffe on the Micro and normal map. Legs weren’t happy with the hill in Bingham though and felt tired throughout. Don’t appear to be getting any fitter at the moment. Yet another amazing evening and the sweat was pouring off me by the time I finished.

Run - Trail 32:45 [2] 6.7 km (4:53 / km) +80m 4:37 / km
slept:6.5 weight:72.7kg (injured) shoes: Asics 2140

A run at last! Not much time but I did a least drag myself out straight from work (Up Porter). Sluggish considering the rest, but did feel better from within for making the effort. Exercise will start tomorrow.

Note
(injured)

Another day off but also no time today as I saw Kim again this evening. This time my back was knackered as I’d be on my feet all morning doing a tree survey. Felt good to get it loosened out a bit. Been given a load of exercises to do for it; now I just have to do them…

Sunday Jun 27, 2010 #

Note
(injured)

As per yesterday but possibly with even less interest. I need to find something to make me get me out running on weekends when I’m not orienteering.

Saturday Jun 26, 2010 #

Note
(injured)

Just didn’t want to run today, beautiful day and all, but my mojo was elsewhere.

Friday Jun 25, 2010 #

Note
(injured)

Still tired but mostly lazy.

7 PM

Run - Trail 49:15 [3] 5.3 km (9:18 / km)
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcons

Trains session in Limb Valley. Really good and fun session on yet another beautiful evening. Legs were still completely dead so I didn’t achieve any great speed, but it was great to be out. Ran in varying order with Andy P, Colin S, Candyman and Spookster (8.14, 7.59, 10.03 & 9.52). Also mixed it with the girls while the better guys heading off on their own right from the start. Interesting and well planned session and the woods were in great condition for running. Quality.

Wednesday Jun 23, 2010 #

Note
(injured)

Completetly shafted from yesterday so not complaining at an enforced rest day.

Also saw Kim today for the first time. She poked around my shoulder and went kinda pale… Reckons that I should get it scanned asap as things in there don’t appear to be moving around the way that they should. Potentially not good, not good at all.

Run - Trail 2:07:00 [3] 22.0 mi (5:46 / mi) +300m 5:32 / mi
slept:6.5 (injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Amazing run from the top of Ladybower with Boyzone and ba-ba. Up to Bleaklow Stones and then all the way back along the ridge to the north and down to the footbridge at the top of Howden Res. Ground was so dry it was like running on a running track (kept my feel dry the whole way!). Boyzone and ba-ba were bounding off up the hills leaving me to toil on my own, but who can complain about that on an evening like this? Well tired by the end and my stomach was complaining, but still managed a sprint finish. Stupid that really!

slept:6.5 weight:72.5kg (injured) shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07

Back still at me and I really didn’t feel like training, so really had to try hard to get out the door. Lovely evening for it but my body wasn’t completely happy; running well enough but just felt flat.

Sunday Jun 20, 2010 #

Note
slept:6.5 (injured)

Still sore and still no motivation. Feeling low but for no particular reason. Maybe racing at the truce took a lot more out of me than I thought.

Spent the morning finishing the woods mapping at Bowden Housteads. Very dodgy area but thankfully it was gone midday before the chavs managed to get out of bed and tear around the area two-on-a-bike minus any helmets. Natural selection does exist. Some potentially dangerous but interesting housing around the woods. Not an area for a night event!

Saturday Jun 19, 2010 #

Note
(injured)

I hate days that I have no firm plans. The result was that I achieved very little. Lower back still really tight and hurting so decided not to run again. Maybe should have tried.

Friday Jun 18, 2010 #

Note
(injured)

Back still sore and motivation low, so sat the day out.

Thursday Jun 17, 2010 #

Note
slept:7.5 weight:73kg (injured) (rest day)

Rest day; not that tired as the past two days have been easy, but my back has been at me all day so sitting it out for the day is not a bad idea.

7 PM

Run - Trail 1:01:20 [1] 10.3 km (5:57 / km) +70m 5:46 / km
slept:7.5 (injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Nice and easy run round the north bit of Ladybower from the bridge with Faye. Amazing evening, wasn’t expecting it at all and great to be out in it. This run is so much better than anything she has access to in Leeds…

Run - Orienteering race 17:30 [3] ** 3.2 km (5:28 / km) +90m 4:48 / km
spiked:26/26c slept:3.5 (injured) shoes: Asics 2140

High Hazels Park. Nice little jaunt, took it very easy as my legs are screwed from yesterday but enjoyed myself much. Not a very difficult area (mostly mown parkland) but very pleasant and the it was a very enjoyable way to spend the evening.

Run - Terrain 11:00 [1] 1.7 km (6:28 / km) +35m 5:52 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Lap of the map to try and loosen the old legs out. Park full of Asian kids (not all well behaved) but very few British; does this say more about the area or the lifestyles of the different ethnic groups?

Monday Jun 14, 2010 #

7 PM

Run - Trail race 27:34 [5] 6.2 km (4:27 / km) +150m 3:58 / km
slept:6.5 (injured) shoes: Inov8 2009

Trunce. First this year; knew that it was going to hurt but wanted to do it as a barometer of how my fitness is going. It hurt loads, especially running off the top of the hills – made the hills okay but then couldn’t get moving once on top. Ran 27.34, some way off my pb of 14.51, but I’m happy with that as I did try really hard (still got well beaten by Treb and ba-ba though).

Right hip sore running and back not feeling the love now. Fecking useless INOV8’s gave me yet another blister despite tying to wear then in for 6 months!!! Useless fecking shoes.

Run - Trail warm up/down 16:00 [2] 3.7 km (4:19 / km) +40m 4:06 / km
(injured) shoes: Inov8 2009

Decent enough warm-up despite getting there quite late after rushing away from work.
8 PM

Run - Trail warm up/down 13:00 [1] 1.7 km (7:39 / km)
(injured)

Warm down trot with GG (who beat Little Rob’s record in 22.44), ba-ba and Hobbs. Completely knackered. Copious quantities of deep fried potato chunks eaten for dinner.

Sunday Jun 13, 2010 #

Note
slept:8.5 (injured) (rest day)

4 hours mapping in Bowden; lots of vegetation so very slow. Randomly saw the burnt remains of a human body in the woods…

Run - Trail 35:00 [3]
slept:7.0 weight:71.5kg (injured) shoes: Asics Trabuco 12 WR

Kinder Sports Day. What an especially brilliant day. Started with a (quicker than expected) climb from Edale up to the Mushroom Gardens; headed up with MrsB because she said that she was going to walk the steep bits, she didn’t, and I got left behind, caught her on the flatter bits though.

OJ planned a brilliant one-man-relay around the Mushroom Garden, mass start with 25 people or so, mad fun. Was very clean (one hesitation) but also very slow and got done on the ‘running’ sections so finished about 20 seconds down on GG (birthday boy so Danger kindly let him win) and a few others.

Headed up the hill onto the plateaux for an awesome game of ultimate Frisbee; the pitch was perfect, easily better than Wembley, being soft but very undulating peat with hills and dips all over. Perfect.

This also made an ideal location for the egg and spoon race and was also reused for the Football tournament (which I sat out).

Quick run across to the ammo box and then back down via plenty of groughs and a super steep decent off Grindslow Knoll in which Ash managed to descend fast enough to catch the football (cheese apparently being too expensive).

Day nicely rounded off by a BBQ at Camel’s where the collected posse seemed somewhat under-whelmed by England’s performance.

Brilliant day; thanks everyone :-)

Quick jaunt up through the Parks to Forge Dam, as per Monday. Sun is back and all was good with the world – paths even a little softer for running due to the recent rain. Can’t wait for Kinder tomorrow :-)

Cracking evening run with the cfd and Ash in Win Hill Woods. Started from Ladybower dam and contoured nearly the whole length of the woods; cracking woods, only one bit of green, but ferociously steep (got a blister on the inside on my ankle). Back along the top of the woods which was even more cracking as it was some what flatter. Quick climb up Win Hill to finish as the cfd has been too soft in the past to make the ascent. Cracking.

The evil anti-running demons had a big fight with the pro-running god and very nearly came out on top. Thankfully the running-god was a little bit more persuasive and I did manage to drag myself out. Did the same Rivelin loop as a month ago but was some 40 seconds slower (and a full minute off the time of two months ago), I do seem to be carrying quite bit of extra weigh - 73.4kg after an hour of sweating; what’s that all about? (Why won’t it leave me alone and bugger off elsewhere?) Still a little tired from Sunday so was actually quite happy with the run. Rivelin is very green.

Run - Trail 41:00 [2] 8.5 km (4:49 / km) +110m 4:32 / km

Nice trot up through the Parks to Forge Dam, ran into Chappers in Endcliffe (not literally) – didn’t know he was around at all. Felt unexpectedly sprightly considering yesterdays effort so well pleased with myself!

Run - Terrain 1:35:10 [4] 14.2 km (6:42 / km) +300m 6:04 / km

Glad today that I was well rested; headed up to Birchen Clough with Boyzone, Nails, Camel and Candyman for a proper terrain run. Well wet and miserable this morning but mild and the rain had stopped and mist risen by the time were got into the hills.
Just about hung on on the first climb, descended down into Alport Dale okay but spat out the back on the brutal climb out of it. Also suffered on the climb up to Bleaklow Stones but held it together from there home, but I was trying hard.
Tough but great run; it’s hard mentally when I can only just about hang on to the guys but I’m also very happy that I managed to do that as it wasn’t a slow run. Awful lasagne in the Ladybower Inn afterwards.

My legs were up for a little light exercise today but my brain talked them out of it. Disappointing.

This is where Sheffield excels for running; an amazing evening, empty moors and edges and all to myself. Moscar up to Back Tor (with a detour to avoid the OOB due to ground nesting birds) around the back to the next valley (forgotten its name) and back along Derwent Edge. Nobody out aside from a family of ground nesting birds that I very nearly didn’t avoid (little uns flapping like hell but weren’t old enough to fly). Slow and steady pace but completely cream-crackered now.

O at The Edge Campus. Not moving especially fast but was fluid throughout most of it and kept on top of the navigation throughout – something that I don’t often manage on ISSOM maps (though it probably helped knowing the area quite well at this stage).

Run - Trail 24:00 [2] 2.7 km (8:53 / km) +75m 7:48 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Shadowed Chris from work around afterwards; his first time orienteering. He’d done the novice course to start with to get his bearings but could has easily have started with this. He kept moving at a good pace throughout, reading and planning on the move and only made one mistake. The boy done good.

Well needed rest day after the weekend; the runs may not have been long, hard or tough but the combination of 4 in a row was quite tough for this knackered body.
