Note
(injured) (rest day)

Rushed around Sheffield looking for a house with GG all afternoon (found a great place by the Botanical Gardens) and then walked back. A bit much for my back though as it's been aching all evening. Still, progress is being made as I did manage quite a lot of active movement and haven't had any pain killers for the past few days.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

40 minutes with a backpack across Sheffield, a little more than my back wanted to do but it was good to give the shoulder a bit of use. Quite stiff and a bit sore from yesterday but not in a bad way.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Epic day. Went for a walk which ended up being quite a bit longer than planned (about 90 minutes). Managed to sleep for a few hours on my side last night (until now I have been exclusively in an inclined position on my back) and also didn't take any painkillers.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

A longer walk around Quorn with Toni and Ellie to a better playground. Still wasn't able to join in much though I did get a good work out pushing Ellie on the swing. Trying to walk straight and level but it's not proving very easy!

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Not too active to day but made it to the park to play on the slide (not me) with Toni and Ellie. Didn't realised how lop-sided I have become - my right shoulder is about 6cm lower than my left givining me a very wonky look indeed. Takes quite a lot of effort to walk upright though.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

A lot of little movements chasinf Ellen aroundand a wee walk outside, nothing to difficult but still hard work. Made most of the day with a collar though, but tired now. 30 minute walk in the evening finished me off.

Thursday Sep 24, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

A lot of travelling but not a lot else - headed down to see Toni and family for a few days. Aching from the travel but still improving.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Feeling good today and when Faye went up to The Chevin for a run I made it out for a walk. Actally managed about 3km on trails in about 30 minutes. That's sprinting for me at the moment!

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Very lazy day, should have done more with my time but failed to do so.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Lazy days in Leeds and managed a decent sleep and lie in for the first time this week. Can now walk around and do things quite happily for half an hour or so but any longer and my shoulder really starts aching.

Sunday Sep 20, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Up to Leeds to stay with sister Faye for a few days. Got taken straight out to a local O event where I managed the walk to the start and finish. Good to catch up with a few people along the way as well. Lovely afternoon spent in a cracking little tea/honey shop nearby.

4 weeks today on the mend. The recovery is moving a lot quicker now as well although I think that it will probably be about another two weeks for my ribs to stop hurting. Not sure about my shoulder as that is a very different type of injury, but the more I use it the more I can do before the pain aching pain gets too much.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Back to the NG again. And again not a whole lot done, had another x-ray of my neck (which appears to behaving as it should) and told to come back in 6 weeks. Until then I can start taking my collar off for short periods and may even be able to sleep without it in several weeks. Otherwise I can do as I wish and go to work when I feel like it, but not until my shoulder and ribs start to stop hurting for longer periods.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Back to the NG for yesterdays appointment. Don't know why I bothered though, all the doctor said was to come back in 8 weeks to see if my shoulder is still hurting. If not then it should be life as normal, but if it is then they may operate, which doesn't sound too nice but would be worth it rather than having a wonky and sore shoulder for life.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Trek across to the Northern General, wait for over an hour for my appointment only to be told that the doctor that I was there to see (for my shoulder) wasn't working today. Useful. Though at least I got out for a bit and got my walk in.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Back in Sheffield in time to see Aislinn and Jonny off for their Asia trip. Lucky beggars. But I guess that I would be more depressing has I arranged to something similar. Feeling quite good today and have managed quite a bit of activity with little additional aching.

Monday Sep 14, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Much easier trip back to the UK than going out thanks to a smoother landing and an additional week's recovery. Still had to stand for an eternity to get through passport control - whatever happened to free movement in the EU?

Sunday Sep 13, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

A car trip to see a castle that was up to big a hill to steep to contemplate climbing, shame as it was impressive. Lots of aching due to the travel.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Three weeks today. Lots of improvement but it still feels as if there is some way to go as although I can now move about, it still hurts a lot when I move even slightly awkwardly. Another session in the pool which was very nice.

Friday Sep 11, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

A few wee walks but not a lot else today.

Thursday Sep 10, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Another pool session. Lots of movement but still no floating. More improvements though and it is so much less painful than when I think back to a week ago. Still only takes a tiny 'wrong' movement to cause much excessive pain though. How long do bones take to fix?

Wednesday Sep 9, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Aching quite a bit from yesterday's efforts but mostly in my shoulder and as a tired sort of pain, but it still hurts a lot. Back also suffering a little and was quite sore after the afternoon potter (which is my training session at the moment, but I don't think that I'm breaking 20mpk yet!). However, still a lot better than last week and improving all the time.

Tuesday Sep 8, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Made it to the pool for real today. Was able to walk around and move my arms but couldn't float as it put too much pressure on my back (way to much). But in general another good day of recovering.

Monday Sep 7, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

An active day but feeling better; didn't have any drugs at all during the day despite being dragged around the locality by Aislin and Jonny. Was planning on a pool swim but it was shut so we headed for the river to an amazing plunge pool. The limit of my involvement in this was making it to the riverside but the others had a full (but cool) session jumping off rocks. Something to look forwards to next summer.

Sunday Sep 6, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Aishy said that I should be being as active as possible so I now have to fend for myself! Horrible girl. Got dragged out for two walks (which were painfully slow but not actually too painful) and have been feeling reasonably good all day despite cutting right down on the painkillers. Slept well last night and everything is aching less in general (at least when I keep still).

Saturday Sep 5, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Flight down to the Pyrenees to stay with my parents for a while and some quality recovery time. Queuing in the airport was a challenge as was walking to and from the plane, but by far the worst bit was the landing, which the pilot smashed onto the runway with a massive hop and a second bang. Hurt my neck quite a bit and has set it back a few days. They then had the cheek to play the fanfare for arriving, it hurt, but it was funny.

Friday Sep 4, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Fracture clinic this morning, new x-rays; nothing new found and my neck appears to be stable, shoulder to be reviewed in a fortnight. Prognosis is 6 - 8 weeks off work waiting for my ribs to fix themselves, which will also mean the same amount of time away from running. Will hopefully be able to get on a turbo trainer a bit earlier though. Either way, it's a loooong time to be doing nothing.

Thursday Sep 3, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

A lot of discomfort last night - everything in my back seemed to be grating against each other every time I moved, so I didn't get a lot of sleep. Settled down a bit with a few drugs in the morning and caught up with some sleep in a chair! Fionne then kicked me out for some air and I managed to walk a good 400m. Some way to go yet.

Wednesday Sep 2, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Another day of nothing nothingness. Boyzone has been looking after me well and a pleasant visit at lunchtime has been the extent of the day.

Tuesday Sep 1, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Pain seems to be getting slightly better (when I'm keeping still) but shoulder has been aching a lot today. However getting up and sitting down hasn't been too hard today but it's still incredibly difficult to do anything. It's such a useless feeling not being able to do anything.
