Orienteering race 48:12 [3] *** 6.93 km (6:57 / km) +100m 6:29 / km
spiked:24/31c shoes: Icebug

Point Pinhole Shoreline, Blue. 1st O-race of the year. Overall I thought I did well, but a few bobbles and rust to shake off. Beautiful weather as expected. Biggest victory was arriving to the start on time. Flew standby and flights on Sunday overbooked, so took Mon am flight, made vehicular orienteering error on way to venue putting me on bridge to San Fran (lost 20+ min's!), got to start w/ 10 min's to spare. Found out the hard way at 31 (go control #100) my SI stick doesn't hold more than 30 controls!

- spike
- spike
- bad--saw wrong concrete structure, wound up by road, maybe parallel error for that elevated mound too, biggest mistake of the day.
- spike
- spike
- spike, saw it from a long way
- spike
- spike
- spike
- spike
- minor bobble, confused myself being on east road instead of west but caught quickly
- spike
- spike
- spike
- almost spike...arrived behind unmapped bush just west of it, but saw control right away to east
- spike
- bad one, should have been easy but drifted north, got trails and directions a bit mixed up, but then figured it out. Chalk this to bad bearing disciple out of 16.
- spike
- spike
- spike
- could have been more exact coming off AP
- let myself get sucked into another course control but I suspected it was not the right one and I was right about estimating where is was so spiked it after checking that control...checking it probably shouldn't have been necessary, should not have doubted myself
- spike
- spike
- let vegetation push me too far north but I sensed this and was looking in correct direction and was pretty close despite not spiking
- spike
- spike
- spike
- used stone thing as AP and spike
- spike
- spike, but my SI card wouldn't beep, thankfully another racer witnessed this and I manually punched just to be sure...apparently my SI cars doesn't hold >30 controls. Shopping time.
F- tired. Need to do this more.

Overall happy w/ this as a first race of the year. Could have been more prepared running-wise and a few mistakes but the main thing is I'm back out there doing it again and good prep for Flying Pig.

CY18 control goal count = 196
