Running race (run 4 the kids) 59:12 14.39 km (4:07 / km) +183m 3:52 / km vdot: 51.6

My first Run for the Kids coaxed along by spouse who did her first one last year. I have never been a fan of running with 31,000 people (in the 14km race) and now I know why!
I started in the blue section about 30m from the start banner. Race starts, 30 seconds later I cross the start line barely doing a canter. Dodging participants all the way to the end of the domain tunnel. Once I got out of the hot, muggy tunnel there was more room to move and get into a rhythm. Started hitting the wall as we hit the back of Docklands and the km rate dropped by about 10sec. Felt like hard work until I hit Princess Bridge and then I knuckled down to come in under the hour.
This is a race to provide funds to the Royal Children's Hospital, not "run a time" and that definitely wasn't my intention. It was a good experience, I am happy with my time, but I think I will stick to the smaller events from now on :)
