Running 5:47 [2] 0.44 km (13:07 / km) +56m 8:02 / km

Warm-up to the start.

Orienteering race 57:01 [5] 3.77 km (15:08 / km) +149m 12:38 / km

Day 4 SOW. A better day, though still very steep and going around the slope to the final basin before going up steeply to the finish.
The first control was in an area which I thought was quite dangerous with tons of blocks of rocks with deep gaps in-between and it was so complicated, it was hard to make out what was what and where. Lots of orienteers scrambling around, I'm amazed if nobody seriously got hurt in that area. No idea why they send the very young (kids, and the older orienteers in there!). The rest was fine, still very steep on meadows.

Came in 14th out of 44.

Hiking 19:07 [3] 0.81 km (23:38 / km) +125m 13:19 / km

Early (!) hike up to the EC. Then, a coffee! No breakfast.

Orienteering race 1:13:43 [4] 4.05 km (18:12 / km) +204m 14:32 / km

Not my day, not my terrain, not my idea of orienteering fun.
I have no idea why in the world, they would even produce a map in an area like that. The map actually did not show everything that was actually in the woods. The creeks were actually really steep gullies. I mentally gave up after I couldn't find #4 which looked easy and straightforward on the map but probably wasn't awake enough to notice certain things. But I was initially always in the "neighborhood", just missed the flag which was quite hidden in big leafy shrubs. At one point, I was close to the finish and considered whether I should just give up as this would become my throw-out day anyway. However, my head would not hear of it and I did the 100m-descent to later climb it all and more back up.
Should have stuck to my resolution to never orienteer in that kind of mountainous terrain again.

Running 17:12 [3] 1.65 km (10:27 / km) +102m 7:58 / km

Warm-up to the start, had to hurry and it climbed quite a bit.
Even though I was early at the event center and the finish area, I spent quite a bit of time talking such as with Monika B returning from the 6day of MTBO in Denmark and then seeing Walter Siegenthaler and chatting the most obvious things first before I really had to rush to my start.

Still had a 2 km, 130 m climb up to the event center walking.

Orienteering race 54:31 [5] 4.41 km (12:22 / km) +194m 10:08 / km

Day 2: SOW long course and quite high up. Had incecurities the first 4 controls bc of steepness of the area, then a murderous climb almost back up to the start and 2 quite simple legs along the altitude on a trail that was so irrregular and deeply rutted from the cows, I could not really run or jog normally. Made a mistake to #8 and had to turn around (it lay on the ground hidden) and another very steep hillside jog around the lake into the finish. Was proud of my time under 1 hour but it turns out to be slow, only about in the middle of the field of W65. Disappointed kind of.

Mountain Biking 17:44 [1] 4.2 km (4:14 / km) +74m 3:53 / km

Riding to the event center of stage 1 of the Swiss O Week.
12 PM

Running 11:01 [2] 1.24 km (8:54 / km)

Warm-up to the start.

Orienteering race 13:00 [5] 1.67 km (7:47 / km) +27m 7:12 / km

Sprint in Gstaad, did better than anticipated. There is such a strong field of Swiss women I normally can never beat, and the the women from other countries, I have no idea how they usually do. I came in 7th out of a field of 44 in my age class. Happy with it. Glorious day in the mountains.
3 PM

Mountain Biking 38:30 [3] 5.14 km (7:30 / km) +244m 6:03 / km

Riding home from Gstaad but wanting to find that "Mirage Gstaad", elevation 1049 by Doug Aitken. We biked up on a little road, then took the hiking trail down (it was forbidden to ride the bike :-/) and found that hous of mirrors. It was magic and we enjoyed it much. From there riding through a ravine and pushing the bike down, then up to the main road and home. Fun day.
