Mountain Biking 2:12:26 [3] 24.38 km (5:26 / km) +930m 4:34 / km

After being on the island of Cres, we decided to come back onto the island of Krk and we could reserve "our" bungalow in the Glavotok campground right on the water under the pine trees. It was such an easy "homecoming" and we felt right back in place with getting our stuff arranged, going for a swim, cooking rice with tuna and watching the sunset from our table outside. This is vacation heaven.
Again, we felt we didn't want to go someplace else, so we decided to start out "our" loop like we did it a week ago going to the wonderful, old oak tree and then beyond onto the other side of the peninsula where we had a coffee and chocolate croissant for me and an ice cream for Urs. Then we headed through the neighborhood then through the beautiful landscape with stony walls framing those little dirt roads or trails back over the hill and up to the highest spot before zooming back down to the camping. A fun outing, easy-going and quite hot but we were mostly under trees and in the shade.
Of course, this was followed by another dip in that beautiful, clear and turquoise water.

Day 4 of Bubo Cup: an absolute disastrous day. Didn't find the flow I had for the last 3 days. I still wanted to continue with my technique: compass bearing and stay with it. But it mostly looked differently than I had imagined and I couldn't find the flags as I did these last 3 days. It was frustrating. Looked for t# 2 for at least 10 min and realised that I was too high all this time even though it was onl a short distance from the first flag. Continued and tried not to be too depressed as I knew that I had already lost my 8 min overall lead. Concentrated and things were a little easier. But there were so many rocks everywhere and needed to find a rock in a rocky place. Hmm. Made it to the finish eventually. Of course, disappointed about it all. But I had 3 good days.
Still very hot despite the 8 or 9 am start and beautiful weather.

Day 3 of Bubo Cup, long distance. Was worried whether I could orienteer at 8:34 in the morning!! But with 2 coffees and a Sponser gel with sugar and caffeine I managed. Did again no obvious mistakes. It was less beautiful that the previous days more on trails and long stretches of taking routes around. Most trails were so rocky it was hard to run on them. And the ground was also not as clean as the other days, more branches and tons of rocks that interupted any sense of running "speed" (for me). Was satisfied in the finish but still felt like it took me a long time.
Now on for the last day tomorrow with a similar distance like on the first day.
Still wonderful weather and hot despite the early morning competitions.

Orienteering 41:55 [3] 2.77 km (15:08 / km) +222m 10:48 / km

Day 2 Bubo Cup, forest sprint on a 1:5'000 map with 2 m contours. Did getting some used to but forced myself to always set my compass and stay strict with the compass bearing. It worked and I came through with no mistakes again. But it is not my usual speed and way of orienteering. (I haven't orienteered since last fall!) Beautiful area, open and visibility with lots of features, negative contours (mining, sinkholes??) and rock walls, but also quite a bit of deadfall changed with running areas. NIce area.

Jogging warm up/down 29:40 [2] 1.99 km (14:56 / km) +190m 10:06 / km

Decided to fast hike up to the event center to clear the cobwebs out of my brain as I had an earlier start. Got there on time and changed and went on to the start pretty quickly. Beautiful weather on Crec.

Tuesday Jul 7, 2020 #

To the start: I knew it was long and I hadn't run in a while. Then, I noticed that I had forgotten my bib number so I hurried back and forth. Was 2 min late for my start, so I forced myself to concentrate and take it slowly at the beginning to get into the map.

Orienteering race 55:59 [5] 4.09 km (13:42 / km) +50m 12:55 / km

Day 1 of Bubo Cup on Crec in Croatia: longish course, very intricate but could see al the details on the map. Went out quite cautiously but gained confidence. Still the best I could do in running speed.
