Bike O race 25:50 [5] 5.35 km (4:50 / km) +4m 4:49 / km
World Masters Mountain Biking O-Championships, Sprint today. I had never done a sprint on the mountain bike before and this was very tricky. Most people made tons of mistakes. Everything "came" so fast on a bike, plus we were allowed to ride through the white, wooded parts basically ignoring all the criss-crossing little trails. But it was also confusing to keep track. I made a mistake right out of the start as I wasn't quite ready yet to put the map on the holder and figuring out where I was with the suspicion that I had to turn backwards to my first control but everybody headed straight out. I forced myself to stop and to figure out which way was what. So I lost "only" about 30 sec. To 2 I found into the map (which was strangely mapped for bike-orienteering). Made a bigger mistake close to the end getting into the stadium for the last 2 controls when I followed a young Russian rider together with a line of over 10 more riders when we all stopped into an uncrossable fence and saw the flag on the other side. Rats, so typical, it's tough to keep track to these details when going full speed on a bike. Should have slowed down and re-checked twice.
Won the W65 by a large margin (over 2 min) and came in 4th when rated with the W60 as our age group "only" had 8 riders, we needed to be 10 to be recognized with a price. Such a dumb idea and de-motivating when they already have trouble getting more women to compete in bike-orienteering.
