Orienteering race 1:46:46 [4] 7.05 km (15:08 / km) +69m 14:26 / km
Long-O US Champs: very tough, went slow, Rogaine-style with a water pack on my back. More later. won gold and am happy, of course. Was scared shitless of that difficult area in the wilderness.
Had somehow a breakdown before the start, just could not imagine orienteering and felt absolutely exhausted and worthless for competition. Luckily, Leslie, ran into me and talked to me and gave me some courage back and a plan how to proceed and to bail out if I could not do it at all.
Went out w a pack with water and granola bars and started out slowly, rogaine-style which suited me just fine for today. It gave me confidence that I was "safe". Already to 1 I felt that I could actually read the map, it made sense and I could see what I wanted to see. And on the long leg to 2, I was definitely back to my old orienteering self. The controls kept on coming and I went over the course in a training-pace style. Glad I finished and felt good about it.
Had a mistake to 9 but recovered which ended about being a 5-min mistake.
