Walking 20:00 [1]

Met up with Christoph and Molly Parsons in Colorado Springs (:-)), they are now engaged. Take the cog up to Pikes Peak where they fixed up an incredible Sandwich.
I haven't been on the cog in Ages and Urs wanted to explore that aspect of Approach, so it was a good opportunity to spend it with the two of them.

Walking 20 [1]

The last few hours in DC: walked over to the Museum of American Indians because the outside architecture intrigued me, and it was as spectacular inside. Then over to the other side of the Mall to look at the architecture of the East side Museum of Art which is also stunning. Toured the Gardens of sculptures which was a lot of fun and took lots of Pictures.
Walking back I went by the Neweum but it will have to wait for another trip.
Flying out to Colorado in the afternoon.

Walking 1 [1]

My DC Sightseeing today: started with the area behind the Capitol to find the "Eastern Market" but was not worth it as it "only" had produce and meat or fish. Could not find the flea market so I left.
After my run went to Dumbarton Oaks and toured the premises: very nice and worth the trip.
Then I got caught in a traffic jam at 4 pm and it took me an hour to finally get to the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts! (what they do in DC for Rushhour to help traffic move out of the City! So I wanted to turn onto a road that had a sign for Kennedy Center, however now it was one-way and a line of 2 cars side-by-side was blocking my way. Amazing that they can pull off something like that).
Caught the last tour of the Kennedy Center, then saw a free Performance that is scheduled every evening at 6 pm. Today it was a fun modern Dance on the theme of "Homeland Australia".
As I was hungry by now, I stopped over at the Union Station and checked it out as well and finally got back to the Hotel by 8.30 pm, a 10-hour Tourist-day ;-).
6 PM

Running 1:28:07 [3] 10.23 km (8:37 / km) +272m 7:36 / km

Went back to Rock Creek Park as I knew how to get there fast from the Capitol area.
This time, I found my trails as I checked on the Park map and not on their trails map. Beautiful course, lots of up and down going North on the Ridge trail and fairly flat along the crrek on the Valley Trail.
Figured out the blazes on the trees (sometimes scarce and far in-between) and could follow them easily now. I only had to backtrack twice but only a short Stretch.
Lots of fun today and beautiful warm weather.

Walking 2:00:00 [1]

Another touristy day: started at the Martin Luther King Memorial, then Lincoln Memorial, then Vietnam and Korean Memorials (very impressive) and back towards the Jefferson Memorial followed by visiting the White House area and visitor Center. As it all went well, headed for downtown and the Ford Theater where I was totally absorbed with the Lincoln Story about his presidency and the assassination. So interesting.

By now, after 6 hours of Sightseeing I was done again.

Crosstrainer 35:00 [3] 5.8 km (6:02 / km)

Went to the Hotel's Fitness Center as I was so tired and did not want to go out to the Mall and run there. Did 30 min of crosstraining followed by some weights on the Life Fitness machines.

Walking 2:00:00 [1]

Lots of Walking in DC: visiting the Capital, Library of Congress down to the Botanical Gardens and the Spase Museum where I decided to quit that I had enough for the day with Walking, but I still needed to walk back at least 1.5 k back to the Hotel. Hugh it's hard on my lower legs this constant Walking, but DC is very exciting.
10 PM

Running 1:22:22 [3] 8.0 km (10:18 / km) +234m 8:59 / km

Running at Rock Creek Park, NW of Washington DC. Boy, did I get lost! At least 4 times. I followed the Park map with the trails on it, but I always seemed to bump into a Major road (2 or 4-laned) which I could not make out on that map. Turned back twice and once I must have followed the trail into another Creek. When I saw a Major intersection of some roads, I knew I had to figure out where I was! The sun was now behind me and not on my right Hand side.
And on the map it looked so easy: follow the ridge trail North, cross over and follow the valley trail back south. Either I was stupid or I tried to read the map too careful and followed paths that were actually not on the map. Anyway, I made it back and found the parked car again!
The park was beautiful and the Creek especially. Too bad they have all These roads running along it or crossing it which makes for constant noise (and my confusion).
