Venice Street-O race: the worst I have ever placed :-(. But it seems that all the young chicks have moved into my class and they're speedy! It's time that I move up next year ;-)!! But then, I just don't seem to pick up speed this year and i wonder whether it is from the trochlear palsy I had this Christmas/New Year and different problems such as high BP which is down again, but took quite a while. Oh well, I'm still mostly grateful I can run again and pretend to be my old self. The course was not quite as good as the previous years, lots of longer stretches of "just" covering distances and lots of times in the main drag of Venice with tons of people which is not much fun. In the past, we only had to cross these areas or run with the flow of people for a short while. We did have some interesting places with fun control placements once we came close to the control sites. I made probably a big route choice mistake in as I took the Rialto bridge instead of the Academia bridge, something fun to check out another year. Another time, I went from Nr.12 to 13 but forgot after 12 that I had already been there, and went looking for it again!! I found out before I hit it again and turned back to go to 13. What a blunder!! It cost me at least 2 minutes. As always, I had trouble keeping up the concentration towards the end because of tiredness and the neighborhoods just before one gets out towards the last control can be quite intricate and confusing. But it was beautiful weather and the best weekend in Venice I ever enjoyed, so I am really happy with it all!
