Bike Touring 2:36:30 [2] 42.73 km (3:40 / km) +95m 3:37 / km

Riding on the Euro6 following the Doubs, then the canal du Rhin-au-Rhone, then along the Saône and finally the entire canal du centre until it reaches the Loire at Digoin.
We were 3 couples and carried our own stuff in bags riding for 5 days a total of 309 km. I had trouble recording with my Garmin and being on gps for 6+ hours per day emptied the battery most of the time.
We started in Besançon until Dole on Day 1;
Dole to Verdun-sur-le-Doubs on Day 2;
Verdun-sur-le-doubs to Santenay in Burgundy on day 3;
Santenay to Palinges, the longest stage over 70 km on day 4;
Palinges to Digoin and back to Paray-le-Monial on day 5;
heading back by regional trains (slow travelling) to Besançon, then La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland and home.
It was fun, though quite cold with threatening rain although there was just a short shower on day 2. It makes such a difference when the sun is out and everything is full of light and smiles.
I did this trip already in 2014 with 2 other friends.

Finally, a nice long ride on one of my loops. Stopped a lot to take pix: rapeseed fields, cornflower fields, and our favorite beach.
Felt stronger than I have been for a long time and could push the uphills or coming back against the strong northwind (which hasn't been as strong as the last week, finally! Still not warm temps but comfortable.

Running 56:06 [3] 6.19 km (9:04 / km) +44m 8:45 / km

Back home and leg muscles are very stiff from all the driving back home on Friday and then a very busy day on Friday with helping to stuff racing bags for the Grand Prix of Bern (16 mls) where 30'000 runners participate. Our work load lasted for 4 hrs standing and putting promo cards, sheets, bars etc. in all sorts of different bags.
So, I did a gentle run, mostly downhill and, unfortunately, a lot of it on pavement which hurt my muscles even moreso. I urgently need to find time for a longer stretching/yoga yin session, but I am so swamped at the moment with O-related administrative tasks and translations for SOW 2019.
It went better towards the end when I tried to find a smoother stride and it worked.
And I forgot, we had a high wind warning and intermittend rain and even hail. The weather has been horrible this last week and it continues to be somewhat out of the ordinary with high gusts of winds and cold temps.

Running 58:51 [2] 4.56 km (12:55 / km) +140m 11:12 / km

Exploratory jog from our place. There's a nature reserve right by the house, so we explored it. Lots of stops and at the end I went alone down to the sea and back up. Quite nice and it was warmer than it has been in days.

Mountain Biking 1:28:58 [2] 17.61 km (5:03 / km) +224m 4:45 / km

Bike ride from us over to Portoroz (through a 800m-long bicycle and foot tunnel!!) and then along the coast to Piran. Climbed the highest tower (another 140 steps up). Tried to take the foot and bicycle trail along the North side but it was blocked due to rock fall, but we lifted our bikes over a railing and made it anyway. Down by the salines we tried again tu cut across the saline basins and there was a way with climbing pedestrian bridges. Fun ;-). Riding up back "home". The weather had turned, mostly cold wind when exposed to it or warm when sheltered. Rain clouds are coming our way again.

Mountain Biking 55:41 [2] 9.37 km (5:57 / km) +176m 5:26 / km

Riding down the Istrian pensinsula all the way, looking at Rovinj and then the incredible colloseum in Pula. Further down, we did a loop all the way down to the tip of Premantura. Quite fun and the weather improved though the air still stayed crisp.

Mountain Biking 8:57 [2] 1.98 km (4:31 / km) +17m 4:20 / km

Biking to the start. I got there already freezing with numb fingers and soaked through feet. What motivation to do a bike-O race. The start was at a cemetary (!) and I found a covered entrance with a locked door out of the wind and put on more clothes and wool gloves under my wind-resistant gloves.
But when everything gets wet together with a strong northerly wind, there are different "laws" of trying to keep warm.
I started anyway.
11 AM

Bike O race 1:31:44 [5] 11.94 km (7:41 / km) +422m 6:32 / km

Long distance Bike-O today: there were warnings since days about this day due to the dangers of the weather. And it sure was wet from above, biting wind and about 3 degrees. It wasn't very long as long distance bike-O go, but the elevation gains predicted of 365 m on 9.8 km promised a steep up and down on a short distance.
And it was exactly that and I pushed the bike uphill a lot (and others did too) and I also hopped off the bike a lot on the downhills on the muddy single trails, as I was almost faster, but surely safer that way.
I started right behind the other gal in the same class and saw her pretty quickly. But I had problems at the beginning, felt kind of weak and had to wait till my diesel engine got into gear. After the 4th control, I caught her then passed her on the downhill on a paved road. And she decided not to do the next loop back uphill on the next hill but went home for a warm shower (she already had already told me that she would not finish as it was too tough ahead of time). So, I was the only competitor in my class to finish as the other 2 women didn't start at all.
It was an "epic" race, quite tough, technically very hard to ride due to the mud and because of the steep uphills in this dismal weather.
It turns out a good training for me. And my fingers warmed up despite the wet gloves. But the toes were borderline frozen.
What an adventure in eastern Slovenia.

Mountain Biking 8:19 [2] 2.19 km (3:48 / km) +18m 3:39 / km

Warm-up to the start in light rain but still warm. Feel good!
12 PM

Bike O race 1:00:38 [5] 10.72 km (5:39 / km) +74m 5:28 / km

Middle Distance: south of Slovenj Gradec. I was curious because I was warned of the abundance of roots and trails that one had to keep track of unless one was lost for a while.
After the start I immediately got a taste of those roots and I bumped and biked along the trail until I got more comfortable and also careful as they were slippery. I fell only once when I tried to map-read and didn't see a root and fell immediately almost over the top but could save myself by falling sideways. Well, from now on I was going to not read the map while riding. So I memorised the way I wanted to go for a little while and stopped to read the map again. This was a good goal and I advanced quite easily and without mistakes. It was a good and challenging course which I enjoyed. I quickly passed the gal who started ahead of me which motivated me further.
With a sense of accomplishment and a little pride I crossed the finish line.
But the hammer hit when reading out my badge: #8 was missing! I went straight from 7 to 9 which was actually quite a difficult route technically. Going to 8 would have followed the road and down to the flag and from there on a trail to flag 9.
I was so angry at myself, I just didn't see the connecting lines from 7 to 8, I can't say anything but being disillusioned. Such a disappointment as both days count together and I would have won by at least 10 min today.
Oh well, I wanted to leave right away and go home as cold and nasty weather is supposed to hit. But I recovered slowly in the afternoon with more motivation again.

Hiking 48:55 [2] 2.62 km (18:39 / km) +197m 13:33 / km

After coming back exploring some of Ljubljana's most famous sites, we were ready for some catching of mountain air, so we hiked from our guesthouse to the top of Straza mtn. We missed the most direkt trail and so went all around. Very nice view from the top. Then I dared to take the toboggan down (it was really steep in the curves), but I forgot to start my Garmin again. It would have been fun to see the speed ;-0). Back along the shore to our place.
This day was way nicer than predicted, so we took advantage of it and did our touristy tours. It's a beautiful corner of the world.
