Yoga 1:05:00 [3]

Went to a yoga class in the Nanyuki sports club after driving long distances on a tour in North Kenya with no activity what-so-ever. Very hot, 40 degrees through the Chalby desert with a blinding sandstorm which we eventually left behind. I was just a passenger which was not easy. But an adventure anyway.

easy run in the eve after packing along the lake. Lots of snow and ice but temps kind of pleasant. First time had to run in studded Inov8. Did 141 steps at Sescol at the end. Felt good, not out for speed.

Jogging home from SaMa's house after dropping off the kids. Felt very lethargic, no energy. I also bumped into a friend as she was leaving the house. This was the 4th time within 3 weeks that we just "ran" into each other. Ran a little bit together, then stopped and chatted before she headed off a different direction.
It had rained into the snow and the snow filled little trails were very slippery especially on the downhills.

It was good to be back for the whole 75-min yoga class; the vinyasa part (45 min) was quite intense after this 3-week break. But I felt very subtle and stretched afterwards. Now I will have a 4-week break unless I practice a little in Kenya?? Hmm.

It took quite a kick in the butt to get me out today, but eventually went to the Vue des Alpes for some skate skiing. Actually, wanted to get some technique in to feel better again on the skating skis. Did some additional loops they had tracked just because there is so little terrain that is still ski-able. The extra efforts (skating with no poles or pushing off with just one leg then with the other or trying to stay on one ski a little longer for balance) helped immensely. By the end, I almost felt good on skis again. And I also felt much better, whatever had bothered me in the morning (getting sick, flu?) seemed behind me now.

First skate ski of the season! We had a dusting of snow and appr. 3 cm was on the ground which was enough to make some tracks (not for classic really), but it felt good to be on skis again, though a little wobbly at first and trying to find the balancing again. At least it is white all around, that's good for a start.

Somewhat slower today, don't really know why. Suspect that from the nightly hiking on New Year's Day I had both back pain and felt that my leg muscles were very tight. Yesterday after the run I felt my back muscles and realized they were cold, so I first put a hot pack on and a massage pillow afterwards. The same must have been true for my legs that the connective tissues around the muscles were constricted and needed warmth and extended stretching.

Hiking back down through the night at 1:30 am to La Chaux-de-Fonds; wow did the cold wake up all the dulled senses from all the Champagne and wine!
