Running 38:59 [3] 4.4 km (8:51 / km) +138m 7:39 / km

Biked in the rain to the Dählhölzli and did my run to see how things are after almost a week of no running.
Not bad, but I still don't have the normal gait, it would be interesting to see myself in a video. The PT on Thursday was still far from content about the progress of the knee and the capability to extend it fully. Maybe that's an illusion anymore? But something is still oddly off.

Mountain Biking 1:21:40 [3] 23.52 km (3:28 / km) +213m 3:19 / km

After a full week but without exercise except with Matti or working in Interlaken with my plants, I got out on a beautiful, sunny morning to ride my new bike with 29' wheels. What a feeling! I was a little faster but not by much i guess (5 min).

Running 39:14 [3] 4.46 km (8:48 / km) +141m 7:36 / km

Ha, the kneecap is the key! My PT has been mobilizing my knee to emphasize a straight leg which I'm better at but still not great, when I mentioned how my knee caps are hurting, something they had never done before. She checked my patellas and was shocked: my right one was practically stuck and the left one was a little better, but not great either.
So I have been diligently mobilizing my knee caps at least twice a day plus sprayed stuff on it or used ointments.
And what a difference today! I could actually swing my lower legs forward, the right one better than the left. Wow, what a difference this was.
Running was easier, faster and almost painfree. So happy for a solution.

Mountain Biking 1:26:07 [3] 23.41 km (3:41 / km) +231m 3:30 / km

Ride on a cold, windy Sunday and could push it a bit. The first time in almost half a year I felt my leg muscles burn a little ;-).

Mountain Biking 9:50 [2] 1.6 km (6:09 / km) +13m 5:54 / km

Biking in the rain to and from where I wanted to start my run.

Running 44:02 [2] 4.45 km (9:54 / km) +128m 8:40 / km

Back to the beginning as my knee had hurt more than usual. Took it easy and very slow time. Raining all the way.

Mountain Biking 1:27:28 [2] 23.3 km (3:45 / km) +223m 3:35 / km

A beautiful and warm day to clean my mountain bike. After the PT-session (I felt really exhausted and down, my knee seems worse than last December), I kicked myself out the door on the bike. Did the shorter loop and it did me good. Felt much revived.

Running 51:33 [3] 5.57 km (9:15 / km) +167m 8:03 / km

Another run in Cormondrèche after everyone fell asleep for their lunch nap. A beautiful and warm day, and I wanted to go do the same loop again from yesterday because I liked it that much.

Running 52:34 [3] 5.57 km (9:26 / km) +151m 8:18 / km

Drove Sandra with Lena from the hospital in Berne home to Cormondrèche. (Matti went home yesterday late pm with Marc to go to daycare today.) I will stay here for a moment.
Went for a run before Matti would be back. So nice in those woods which will be my "playground" starting this September. It's so quiet and the woods are still left to be woods with birds singing and moss on trees (in Bern, the woods are so "civilised", one can barely see a squirrel anymore, and the trails or dirtroads are hardpacked as concrete would feel).

Jogging 48:18 [3] 5.01 km (9:38 / km) +87m 8:52 / km

Took the opportunity to go for a jog while Urs was on a walk with Matti, that is, Matti kind of set off by himself and Urs followed him closely up to the big bridge and over half-way across where there were lots of police cars that he had to watch intensly. Boy, this little guy moves fast and Urs really was challenged staying with him all the time. When I wanted to leave I saw a lonely stroller outside so I hurried after them bringing it with a cover and the usual stuff Matti takes along. We eventually could get Matti in the stroller and Urs could go on their planned walk.
I did my loop the other way around but wasn't very fast, still filled with the news that Lena was born this afternoon and happily they're all healthy and that it went well even after many hours. Second time grand-parents or nonna!! Yipee.

Ski touring 1:52:30 [3] 9.2 km (12:14 / km) +530m 9:30 / km

(My Garmin seems to malfunction and can't get the GPS to show even though it says that it is on. How to solve this?)
Did a little skitouring with Urs from Les Savagnière up to the Chasseral (the same trip I did last year when I was leading a snowshoe group). Beautiful sunny day and nice temps except on top the North wind was blowing hard.

I had problems on the downhill with my right knee just could not turn properly so I took the road down which was fast and easy.

Note to myself: still problems aligning both meniscii and knee cap in a new movement, first it hurts then eventually it settles and is (almost) painfree. But the knee definitely restricts my motions and could not imagine dashing through the woods for orienteering at this point.

Running 53:45 [3] 6.2 km (8:40 / km) +90m 8:05 / km

Wanted to choose a different route and tons of people were out on the side where I usually run. So I ran up on the other side of the Aare and climbed to the edge and stayed there through woods and meadows until I took a trail back down and flat back.
For some reason the GPS didn't work, I tried several times to get it going but had no luck.

Running 38:47 [3] 4.4 km (8:49 / km) +127m 7:42 / km

Squeezed in a run (amazing how much I all of a sudden have to get done) and tried to get out of my shuffle and actually advance to a "running" form of some sorts but it takes such an effort. Don't know whether I am missing the strength, meaning the push-off in my calves or whether it's still because my knees are "talking" to me, sometimes hurting, but mostly I feel them and I am careful about my foot placements and alignment. But I was very surprised that I was breaking the 40 min barrier which was a goal for so long. And today, It just happened. Maybe it was also the cold/flu thingy that has bothered me for so long, but I am actually still coughing.

A wonderfully sunny day, and it will get warmer every day into the middle of next week with spring in the air!!!

Running 43:49 [3] 4.76 km (9:13 / km) +98m 8:21 / km

Could go on a "surprise" run after 6 pm as Urs came home a little earlier and took Matti for a walk to the playground at the Dählhölzli petting zoo. So I took that opportunity, put dinner on hold and left. Saw the two on the suspension bridge leading to the slide and having a good time. Came back through the woods and it was almost dark but the trail was very soft as all the snow and ice had melted and the woods smelled wonderful.
Still having trouble with my right knee, sometimes the inner meniscus, somethimes the knee cap, sometimes the outer meniscus. Just can't really run freely yet and keep limping at times.

Classic x-c skiing 1:27:36 [2] 8.63 km (10:09 / km) +122m 9:29 / km

It was raining! But I went out anyway and skied in the thickest of fog. I could barely make out the tracks from one stick to the next. It was very quiet, not a person around and almost mystical. But it was slow going and the tracks were very slick. After the restaurant where we had dinner the previous evening, I decided to continue anyway a little bit, and the snow was a tad better so I could push off. Then, I opted to take the race tracks back (there was a marathon in the morning) and I followed the the last racers. This was much harder going and the tracks were very glassy, so I could not climb at all.
