Teaching classes 1:30:00 [2]

My Tuesday classes, 3 of them; the one in the evening with 6 people and 2 firefighters challenges me as usual. Whole body strength workout with strong bands on the fitball and the floor.

Evening at home: packing for Madrid and Granada!

Monday Jun 27, 2011 #

Nordic Walking 45:00 [1] 4.2 km (10:43 / km) +60m 10:00 / km

Monday morning NW class, beautiful and very hot! Went to do the Gnome Trail to the animal park and the pigeon trail to Goldswil, along the Aare back. Most of it was in the trees with almost a nice breeze!

Mini Trampolin 30:00 [2]

Did a short workout in the evening with steady running and some jumps for "explosive" strength while watching Federer at Wimbleton.
I had wanted to run at lunch at work, but it was simply too hot, I did not have the energy.

Hiking 2:47:19 [3] 8.56 km (19:33 / km) +678m 14:00 / km

Power hiking to the top of the Gantrisch, then around; I love this hike with its cables and rocky ridges.
This was a "Colorado day" in Switzerland, hot, dry and deep blue sky. The mountains and Alps were crystal clear.

PS: I was supposed to go to the 2nd bike-O race but the poor course-setting and a slight headache this morning plus no motivation what-so-ever made me change my plans. However, this also means that I probably will not be able to defend my Swiss Cup win from last year :'(.

Bike O 50:33 [4] 13.8 km (3:40 / km) +227m 3:23 / km

Went to a bike-O in the backwoods of Basel-Land. A lot was over fields, the cherries were thick on the trees and the harvest was in full stride. Very nice landscape but the orienteering was disappointing. It was more just a bike race on almost all bigger trails or smaller dirt roads, nothing like single trails.
Oh well, it was nice anyway. I do better when it is harder O- and bike-technically. Plus some rain and mud and I can usually beat those women! But not today :-(. Came in 3rd with 2 min behind.
The knee behaved but swelled up afterwards, I noticed how I'm not pushing down hard on the left knee.

Yoga 40:00 [1]

Lazy day: wanted to go running, but with grocery shopping and other stuff, I felt stressed out about going for a run, so I decided to just be lazy. Nice feeling ;-).

Did another 45 min yoga DVD.

Yoga 45:00 [2]

Teach my fitness yoga class, very smooth and fluid today, very good effort from everybody!

Nordic Walking 1:15:00 [2] 6.3 km (11:54 / km) +278m 9:45 / km

Thursday NW class. Went up towards the Habkern road then up behind on the Harder. A new trail that had been closed for a long time. Nice to go someplace new again. Good effort as everyone is so strong.

12 PM

Running 46:10 [3] 6.22 km (7:25 / km) +218m 6:19 / km

Running the Elfenau loop. Had problems to get myself started as I was somewhat afraid and unmotivated about what happened on Sunday. The question after my trochlear nerve palsy at Christmas, was this cardio-vascular related? This always nags somewhere deep in the cortex.
Felt great that the run went with no problems and ok fast.

Tuesday Jun 21, 2011 #

Teaching classes 1:30:00 [1]

Teaching 3 Tuesday classes; in the evening class I did kind of the same as on Monday afternoon only harder for those 2 enormous firefighters and the other participants. They thought it was hard!
I am sore a bit everywhere but mostly from push-ups!

Monday Jun 20, 2011 #

Nordic Walking 1:30:00 [1] 4.2 km (21:26 / km)

Teaching of 2 classes:
NW in the morning: we went along the Lake of Thun to the ruins Wyssenau and looped back. Beatiful morning!

Afternoon core conditioning class, first with lots of ab work on the Fitball, then a little circuit with strength exercises for all parts of the body. Quite tough.

Running 30:33 [5] 5.01 km (6:06 / km) +94m 5:34 / km

Ran in the "Frauenlauf" a women's race in downtown Bern coming close by our house 2 times! This year, there were 14'000 participants!
Had a good start, then after the first km, I majorly bonked. It went slightly uphill until the 3rd km, then down and back slighlty uphill over the bridge into downtown.
Not my day, quite disappointed though. I thought my training was better but considering that my left knee had swelled after the bike-O races 3 weeks ago and I have been trying to heal it, my training surely was compromised. I just keep forgetting :'(.
96th out of 202 in my age category, at least in the first 50%. But usually I am within the first 3rd or 25 %. Oh well.

Saturday Jun 18, 2011 #

Yoga 30:00 [1]

Another yoga DVD to stretch my connective tissues and help heal my left knee. The swelling is almost gone, but as soon as I sit on a bike, I feel pressures and creaking inside. And, I usually use the bike at home to go to town, shop etc.

Friday Jun 17, 2011 #

3 PM

Running 46:00 [3] 6.8 km (6:46 / km) +205m 5:53 / km

Did the Elfenauloop just before it started to rain. Saw a couple of swans with their 4 young ones. Soso cute.

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

Teaching my fitness yoga class in the morning: felt very smooth and good!

I had to cancel the Nordic Walking Thursday class as just by that time a thunderstorm with lightning passed through Interlaken.

I am so unmotivated to work here anymore, somehow and sometime I probably will get a kick to quit. But whereto??

Interlaken and our hotel is getting ready for a major celebration: the National Yodeling Competition: 15'000 yodelers and singers are expected with 150' to 200'000 spectators!! This place is buzzing and humming. Luckily I don't have to serve beer this time, I absolutely hate that kind of restauration.

Nordic Walking 1:30:00 [1] 4.2 km (21:26 / km) +180m 17:39 / km

Staying overnight in Interlaken.
Teaching one core conditioning class and then the Nordic Walking class: we went up on the Harder, not far but did a nice loop. Very hot and muggy. Everybody is dragging today.
Finally, in the evening I can go home to Bern again!
12 PM

Running 59:00 [3] 5.28 km (11:11 / km) +330m 8:31 / km

Had to work today for Monday as I was off because of our 3-day Pentecost-weekend.
Went running over lunch up to Ruedis hut. Felt pretty bad and slow.

Tuesday Jun 14, 2011 #

Teaching classes 1:30:00 [2]

Back to work after an almost sleepless night :-(.
Dragging all day; teaching my 3 core conditioning classes. The one in the evening was the best and we had some fun. Gorgeous day after a rainy weeknd!

Monday Jun 13, 2011 #

Yoga 20:00 [1]

Monday off because of our 3-day weekend. We drove to a bd party all the way to the east side of Switzerland (2 1/2 hrs one way), so no time for training today.

Did another yoga tape in the evening and felt really good.

Sunday Jun 12, 2011 #

Yoga 30:00 [1]

Another yoga DVD. It seems to be the best thing for my myofascial problems.
2 PM

Running 1:02:38 [3] 9.04 km (6:56 / km) +288m 5:59 / km

Decided to stay home and no mountain bike riding because of my swollen left knee and besides, had lots and lots of administrative things to do that got left unfinished as we had been gone so much lately.

Went to do the Bremgarten woods loop. I was curious how my knee would do and it proved again: healing by running!! The swelling went down, the cyst in the back of the knee diminished and the knee did well.

Did a little longer than my regular 7.3k loop, added another loop.

Saturday Jun 11, 2011 #

Yoga 30:00 [1]

No training today, my left knee really hurts, the kneecap is not in place and it creaks and cracks which hurts a lot. Additionall, it is swollen all over.
It must have been the biking with the saddle being too low and the force onto the pedal from a wrong angle.
The whole problem started on the weekend of the 2 bike-O races in Winterthur.

Decided to check out my yoga DVDs again and chose a 30min sequence. Really felt good!

Mountain Biking 5:29 [1] 1.21 km (4:31 / km) +2m 4:29 / km

Biking from home to my start at the animal park. Boy does this hurt my left knee! Raise the saddle and feels better but the "damage" is done.

Running 48:00 [3] 6.4 km (7:30 / km) +145m 6:44 / km

Run my Elfenau loop just from a different starting point. Got it all messed up with my Garmin as I stopped it instead of lap and vice versa. Oh well, knee recovers after a while. Also, feel more energy again. :-)

Mountain Biking 10:13 [1] 1.28 km (7:59 / km) +14m 7:34 / km

Biking back home.
The left knee(cap) hurts so much that I had to stand while biking. Rats.

Thursday Jun 9, 2011 #

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

Teaching my fitness yoga class; again, I came in with slight pains all over, the class went very smoothly with a vinyasa flow and the pains went away!

Good effort!

Nordic Walking 1:10:00 [2] 5.4 km (12:58 / km) +320m 10:00 / km

My Thursday Nordic Walking hot shot group: we went up on the Harder to Ruedi's hut and back down quite fast. The rains had stopped for us but it was coldish and muggy.

Running 50:19 [3] 6.36 km (7:55 / km) +255m 6:35 / km

Another Wednesday off-day. I don't know why I had so many Wednesdays these last 6 weeks that are completely miserable. I already wake up feeling crabby and dizzy and can't shake it all day. Is it the two long workdays, tuesday is an 11-hour workday? I don't know.

After the rains finally stopped dragged myself to the Bremer woods and wanted to do another 12 min test on the woodchip track (600m one lap) and see whether I had improved any. Ran 2000 m plus a few meters. I'm still "only" on the verge of "very good" for my age. On April 4th, I managed to go 2050 m for very good.
Afterwards, ran more through the woods but lost my way because of daydreaming, had to stop several times as my shoelaces just wouldn't stay laced (!) and basically felt miserable until finally allowed myself to head back to the car.

A day to forget I guess, just accept it that there are days like that. I am glad I can see an osteopath again on Friday as everything (my fascia) seem to ache again. 2 months ago, I was then tested for Lyme disease but was negative.(MRI plus blood tests)

Teaching classes 1:30:00 [2]

Teaching my 3 Tuesday classes; as always, the last one being the toughest one in the evening. Again simple core conditioning exercises on the Fitball then on the floor using the Fitball and the Gymball. Quite tough, I am sure going to have sore muscles!

Monday Jun 6, 2011 #

Nordic Walking 1:10:00 [1] 4.5 km (15:33 / km)

Nordic Walking with my seniors to Lombach around the Vita Parcours with wood chips and back.

Earlier teaching my core conditioning class all on the fitball or on the floor using the fitball and a gymball. Quite tough.

Sunday Jun 5, 2011 #

10 AM

Running 56:57 [3] 4.93 km (11:33 / km) +306m 8:49 / km

Still in Seefeld, Austria, running to the top of Gschwandtkopf from the hotel and coming down the beautiful green grassy skislope. Then driving back home.

10 AM

Mountain Biking 1:46:34 [2] 13.75 km (7:45 / km) +358m 6:51 / km

Riding from Mösern around the beautiful Mösern Lake, then trying to find the Friedensglockenweg around a hill, but could not, so eventually we went the other way around. Very beautiful. At the end, we had to go and look at this famous Friedensglocke (peace bell).

Friday Jun 3, 2011 #

9 AM

Mountain Biking 10:13 [2] 1.47 km (6:56 / km) +47m 5:59 / km

Seefeld, Austria: riding the bikes over to the cog taking it (with the bikes) up to the Rosshütte.

Hiking 1:31:23 [2] 3.46 km (26:22 / km) +309m 18:14 / km

We left the bikes at the middle station (Rosshütte), took another gondola up to the crest. From there we hiked to the Seefeld Spitze, then back into a valley and around and up again to the top of another gondola, the Härmelekopfbahn.
From there the gondola back to the middle station, the Rosshütte.
1 PM

Mountain Biking 1:50:51 [3] 15.41 km (7:11 / km) +370m 6:25 / km

From the Rosshütte came down 600 m into Seefeld (!), then we biked south around the Gschwandkopf and back to hotel. This became harder and harder as there were lots of little ups and downs. Often, we had trouble finding the correct way as the descriptions from the bikebook or the hikingguide did not match reality, and it was hard to make the right description. Usually, though, those Nordic Walking or running trails were well marked with numbers and km-markers.
Gorgeous and beautiful day with incredible scenery!

5 PM

Mountain Biking 1:22:16 [2] 11.07 km (7:26 / km) +133m 7:00 / km

Seefelt, Austria: after driving over (4 1/2 hrs) and dropping Sandra off for her coaching of the Neuenburger juniors for their team trials for JWOC etc, we headed for an exploratory ride north of Seefeld until it dropped too much and we needed to be back for dinner at the hotel! Nice place though where the nordic sports of the winter Olympics were held in 1964 and 1976!

Running 47:03 [3] 6.25 km (7:31 / km) +235m 6:20 / km

On Monday I had a swollen left knee and I was worried whether I should run today or not. It turned out to be not bad for it, the swelling went down a bit and I can move it better. I have no idea as of the reason, another meniscus injury, Baker's cyst or an inflammed bursa in the back of my knee? We'll see.

Did the usual Elfenauloop and felt ok.
