Teaching classes 20:00 [1]

Teaching two classes, but as I was setting up a circuit, I did not get to exercise myself but help with instructions and correct form everywhere!

Have sore muscles, triceps from yesterday.

Wanted to go running in the evening, but after my Senior and diabetic NW group walk, it rained, and when the thunderstorm had passed, I had lost my motivation.

Running 46:26 [2] 8.0 km (5:48 / km) +50m 5:38 / km

Early Sunday morning run (!!!!) with Urs (or is 9 am not considered early ;-)? Went along the Aare, then up Elfenau and back through the Dählhölzli, saw the young newborn Ibex (3 of them) and the lynx with 2 young ones. So wonderful.
My hamstring barely hurt with this easy pace, but I definitely feel it and it is very shortened. As soon as I can, I need to start stretching it again.

Unspecified 2:00:00 [2]

I had lost a bet and needed to go to the technical ropepark in the Dählhölzli. Again, first, I was very pale to get started on those "gondolas" high up in the trees and walking over tree stumps that swing etc. But I eventually got over my fear of air and actually enjoyed it. We were there for 4 hours and did 4 parcours, but I only put down 2 hours of work, rope climbing and other stuff which required strength.
I wIsh I could post a picture.............. sorry Christoph :-(

Friday Jun 27, 2008 #

Note

No run again. Felt no motivation at all, so I decided not to force myself. I'm not sure whether I could do a run with the hamstring pull.

Yoga 45:00 [2]

Teach a yoga class, feels good on my injured hamstring. It hurts a little less today, but was very stiff, so stretching it gently felt just right.

Nordic Walking 1:00:00 [1] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)

Lead my NW class up to Lombach and down to 2nd bridge. Still very hot and humid, felt no motivation to move fast! I'm just beat since Sunday, have no desire to run or train what-so-ever. Soo, I just take it easy for a few days.

Note

On Tuesday evening started to have a little swelling in the corner of my left eye. Treated it all day Wednesday and still wore my contacts. Today, before lunch, I felt kind of an irritation in my left eye as if there was too much liquid in it. When I checked in the mirror, I was horrified to see that my left eye was all blood soaked. Took the contacts out at once and wanted to call the eye doctor after lunch, but by then my eye had returned to a normal color!! Was working with my glasses all afternoon, even though I got a headache and dizzy feeling. I even did the Nordic Walking with my glasses on and received many teasing remarks!
Hopefully by tomorrow it will all be cleared up!

Nordic Walking 1:10:00 [2] 6.5 km (10:46 / km) +120m 9:52 / km

Evening NW class; we go up to the ruins Goldswil and stop at somebody's house to get some ice tea and cake. It is so bloody hot and humid, I just "crawled" around all day.

Hamstring still hurts, take short strides in NW.

Teaching classes 45:00 [2]

Teaching 2 core classes (and giving me sore stomach muscles again ;-)).

Decided that I would not run for a few days to let the hamstring heal a bit.

Orienteering race 1:20:00 [5] 4.9 km (16:20 / km) +160m 14:02 / km

A disaster day :-(. Warming up on the 3.3 km to the start (!), I felt pretty good despite the intense warmth (86 degrees F!!). Then, I couldn't find my first control. I must have passed it within 5 m, but did not expect it at that point. This area is full of gullies and ditches running all parallel to each other causing an incredible difficult area to orienteer. My control was in a ditch, but it was so shallow, that I did not perceive it as a ditch, and the flag was tucked behind a dry wood pile, so I did not see it. I lost about 8 min.
All the other controls I approached very cautiously, losing time and motivation. It just was not my day, I could not push, I had no drive, no concentration and fun. I searched for many more controls from a few to appr. 5 minutes each.
At my 4th last control I happened to look on my watch and saw with horror that I was already out for 1.12 hr!! It really was discouraging. After the control, I stumbled on a briar and pulled my right hamstring again. I thought I had torn it, it hurt so much. I limbed to the next trail and decided to quit. Of course, I was disappointed, but mostly that I did not have fun at all, which was a first this year.

Orienteering race 37:07 [4] 3.7 km (10:02 / km) +140m 8:26 / km

Drove with Sandra for 3 hours to Chur and up to 1600 m Brambrüesch for orienteering. The start was postponed for an hour which was hard for I hadn't eaten enough for lunch. But it worked out anyway.
Ran ok, just what I could expect in that kind of dense woods and steep terrain. A few controls were quite hard, such as #1 which was straight down from the start into the woods, finding a hole with just a few attack points on the way. No major mistakes, a few longer routes than needed. I am content but not excited about the result. (Our age class is exceedingly strong, and especially in this area, I can't run the speed it would need to be among the first 6. My goal was to be in the top ten, but I missed it, too).

Hiking 2:10:00 [3] 5.0 km (26:00 / km) +500m 17:20 / km

Sandra and I couldn't resist the temptation to climb the closest mountain where we still could see a few snow patches.
So, just before 5 pm we headed up. Beautiful mountain flowers and above tree line an incredible view. As I hadn't eaten or drunk enough before nor after the O-meet, I struggeled at the end. But it was worth it!
Easy jog down.

Running 38:58 [3] 8.5 km (4:35 / km) +120m 4:17 / km

Run/jog the little Lombach loop to the 2nd bridge and back. 20.28 to the bridge and 18.29 back. Only easy run as there will be 2 Nat.A meets this weekend.
Finally, summer has arrived with temps in the 80s and more!

Nordic Walking 1:00:00 [2] 4.5 km (13:20 / km) +180m 11:07 / km

Mountain Biking 2:15:00 [3] 48.0 km (2:49 / km) +450m 2:41 / km

Stomach and digestion are still acting up, but feel less drained.
Our first beautiful day with sunshine in a looooooooooong time, so decide to go around the Lake of Brienz on my mountain bike. Very beautiful and frequently stop to take pictures.

Tuesday Jun 17, 2008 #

Running 45:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:00 / km) +220m 4:27 / km

Have trouble with motivation and feel drained from my digestion problems.

Finally, go run/jog anyway on Gnome-Sheep trail. No time as my watch is acting up.

Nordic Walking 1:20:00 [2] 7.5 km (10:40 / km)

Nordic Walking to lake of Brienz; pace is quite fast!
Still feel drained.

Monday Jun 16, 2008 #

Nordic Walking 50:00 [1] 5.5 km (9:05 / km) +180m 7:49 / km

Nordic Walking with my senior group.
I have some sore spots from yesterday ;-(

Teaching classes 50:00 [1]

Teach 2 Fitball Core classes, today with bands for the upper body.

Nordic Walking race 1:58:52 [3] 10.4 km (11:26 / km) +219m 10:20 / km

Nordic Walking Event in Mürren. Went with 14 in our group to Mürren to do this event. The weather was dismal but luckily, it did not rain, but the clouds almost touched our heads, and no view what-so-ever :-(.
Stayed with one group of 4 people for pacing, and it was actually quite fun! ;-)
(but still, I would rather run something like this, but it was not possible)

Saturday Jun 14, 2008 #

Running 1:00:57 [3] 11.0 km (5:32 / km)

In Bern, run the loop to the Marzili Pool, feel getting faster and faster. Wanted to run under 60 min, but almost 61 is not that bad. Stayed a bit in the Dählhölzli animal park and watched the newborn ibex, the buffalo in their new surroundings. The lynx also have cubs but I did not see any of them.

Friday Jun 13, 2008 #

Running 1:02:45 [3] 9.0 km (6:58 / km) +350m 5:50 / km

Run to Bleiki, felt kind of sluggish first, then better; watch did not work, so forgot how fast I was going up (appr. 42 min); again, very wet coming down over roots and rocks. One place, the trail was almost covered by a waterfall, which is usually only a trickle of water!

Thursday Jun 12, 2008 #

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

Teach 2 yoga classes

Nordic Walking 1:10:00 [2] 7.5 km (9:20 / km) +220m 8:08 / km

Evening Nordic Walking; started out in sunshine up to the Wachtfeuer when I turned around and saw a huge wall of cloud moving towards us. And the rain hit a little later :-(. We waited it out under an open garage roof.

Running 59:11 [3] 11.5 km (5:09 / km) +250m 4:39 / km

At lunch, run my Lombach loop, feel my legs a lot, they are sore and very tight (from road biking??), cannot push, and I am disappointed how slow I am. But at least, I do the whole thing running through (not like 2 weeks ago when I had to walk).
Go by the Dutch campground (the European soccer champs are in full swing, and the Nederlands plays 3x in Bern, so, many Dutch fans are camped close to my house. There were about 100,000 fans last night in downtown Bern! They all wear orange shirts, it is quite a sight. Also in Interlaken, several thousands are camped or stationed causing an "orange" stir in the streets!! They beat the Italians last night!! Big surprise and reason to celebrate with tons of beer and singing!!

Nordic Walking 40:00 [1] 12.0 km (3:20 / km) +250m 3:01 / km

Had the Long walk today and rode along to be able to manage the front walkers as well as the slower ones. Went down the Lombach to the Dutch fanmile, it was incredulous: the Dutch soccer fans had a whole tent town built on the shores of Lake Thun with loud music and all. Every Dutch man we saw was holding a beer can, in fact, I believe, that's the armposition they are born with! But they are very friendly party people with lots of loud laughs and jokes and burps ;-).

Monday Jun 9, 2008 #

Running 43:05 [3] 7.5 km (5:45 / km) +180m 5:08 / km

Run with Manuela in the evening; first, I feel my sore muscles, then they loosen up. Kind of slow running in the rain!!

Teach 2 classes of core training today with free weights for the upper body.

Nordic Walking 1:00:00 [3] 5.5 km (10:55 / km) +120m 9:50 / km

NW with my "new" senior and diabetes group. Went along the Aare to the wooden covered bridge and through neighborhoods of Unterseen back. For the first time with this group, we kept up quite a good pace!

Sunday Jun 8, 2008 #

Orienteering race 29:09 [5] 3.8 km (7:40 / km) +25m 7:26 / km

Middle Distance Street Orienteering National meet in Romanshorn; I know that 7 to 9 women in my age class are really really fast on the road and that I have to push it hard. It is an "easy" street orienteering meet mostly in the neighborhoods, so I run as fast as possible.
My right hamstring pull still hurts but I do my best. End up 7th in my class, and I am pleased. It is a really tough class with a wide base of fast orienteering old ladies!! (and I know of one gal, 59 years old, who ran the 10 k at the Bern Frauenlauf in 44 min!!).
Analyzing my splits, I realise that I am either in 3rd to 5th place on the easy, fast legs (surprise!) and loose some time on the longer stretches.
A big mistake on the 4th last control in the finish area, as I see a flag from way across and "sprint" across two fields when I realise it is not my code
:-(((. Checking my map (finally), I realise that I should have crossed only the soccer field and not the track field as well. So I turn and see my flag behind me, I had gone by it by appr. 5 m!! Very annoying! W/o this mistake, I may have come in as 6th, but not sure.
I was pleased anyway that I ran under 30 minutes, and I seem to get closer and closer to these "hot-shots".

Roadbiking 2:00:00 [3] 43.0 km (2:47 / km)

After the O-race, we took our roadbikes and went along the Lake of Constance to Constance which is a beautiful way. I don't know this area at all, and it was very pleasant. Did some sightseeing in this old, medivial German town, then took the boat down along the lake to Rorschach. From there roadbiking again back to Romanshorn to the car.
That was a little vacation and very beautiful!

Friday Jun 6, 2008 #

Running 1:03:13 [3] 6.5 km (9:44 / km) +350m 7:40 / km

Run up to Bleiki; first my hamstring pull from Sunday still hurts, then it got better. Run pretty good time, consistent with what I had run the last 2 times.
But on the way down on the wet, steep trails full of rocks and roots, I slip on a little wooden bridge and hurt my hamstring again :-(.
40.21 up and 22.52 down.

Thursday Jun 5, 2008 #

Yoga 1:15:00 [2]

Teach 2 yoga classes, and it feels very good!

Nordic Walking 1:00:00 [2] 5.5 km (10:55 / km) +120m 9:50 / km

Teach Nordic Walking class; go up to Heimwehflueh and towards Abendberg; Drizzling rain.

Tuesday Jun 3, 2008 #

Running 45:48 [3] 7.0 km (6:33 / km) +260m 5:31 / km

I must have injured my right hamstring on the start on Sunday more than I thought. It hurts a lot and I cannot push nor do longer strides (not that I particularly would take long strides ;-)). So, I just jog through the loop: Gnome-Sheeptrail, going uphill feels easier (of course) than coming down.
29.19 to first hourse and 16.29 back.

Nordic Walking 1:10:00 [1] 6.5 km (10:46 / km) +230m 9:09 / km

Nordic Walking with my group. I had 14 people show up which always means a lot of work and back and forth "running" between the groups. Go up the the ruin of Goldwil and back along the Aare. The rainclouds are threatening and we get only a few drops. Lucky!

Monday Jun 2, 2008 #

Teaching classes 30:00 [1]

Teach 2 core classes with 2x12 reps for abs, side-abs and back. Feels very good and get sore muscles.

Also teach a NW class for seniors in the afternoon, but bareley an effort for me. Just nice to be outside.

Sunday Jun 1, 2008 #

Running race 28:08 [5] 5.0 km (5:38 / km) +120m 5:01 / km

Frauenlauf Race with 12,000 other women in Bern!
Had wished to break the 28 min mark but did not make it. I felt really weak on the two slightly uphill km from km1 to km 3. Then times improved. I'm not so sure the km-markers were accurate either?
4.13, 6.05, 6.11, 5.10, 6.17
51st out of 208 in W55 and total about 2100th.
