Running 59:57 [3] 7.15 km (8:23 / km) +67m 8:01 / km

Running before another wave of stormwinds, rain, snow and whatever hit us again. Still very tired muscles.

Ski Downhill 1:00:00 [2]

Were invited for 3 days to a chalet in Haute Nendaz and went skiing all day with Urs. The man-made snow was actually quite soft, the slopes not that hard, so my knee actually hurt less than from yesterday's cross-country icy experience.
We've had 13 degrees on 1700 m, incredible! But the weather remained nice and sunny with occasional gusts.

Classic x-c skiing 1:30:16 [2] 9.91 km (9:06 / km) +123m 8:34 / km

We were invited by a neighbor to spend a few days with her in her chalet at Haute Nendaz. In the afternoon, I went to explore the cross-country tracks, but it was a dismal sight. The lower loop was closed due to melting snow. So I went through the woods up to do the upper, longer loop, but the track was icy, glassy and hard to negotiate on the uphills. I took my skis off a few times and jogged uphill as it was no fun at all on the skis. Finally reached this wonderful meadow with a few zig-zags, so I decided to do a few loops. It was magic. I spent quite a bit of time up there in the sinking sun, but it was still SO warm, close to 10 degrees on 1700 m!
I was a little scared for the downhill, but it went quite well after all. Was happy, but don't know if I will go back. There is no other choice though.

Yoga 50:00 [2]

Was very tired in yoga and couldn't hold a balancing position, actually fell over backwards on the triangle. Miffed at myself. However, after the final meditation, I felt a little more grounded again.

Running 49:48 [3] 5.33 km (9:20 / km) +189m 7:56 / km

My normal loop, felt a bit better and stronger. But still feels like I have a long way back to the pre-Kenyan shape.

Running 49:57 [2] 5.8 km (8:36 / km) +24m 8:26 / km

Wanted to do another restday for my knee which hurt quite a bit since last Friday and Saturday's alpine skiing. Also the popliteal cyst has resurfaced and the whole knee was/is swollen. I took care of it all week, but today the sun was out (again) and it was SO warm and beautiful, I went out for a little, slow run/jog anyway. Went to the Planeyse and also did 5 loops on the wood chips track. Felt ok and the knee did not complain too much afterwards.
(It had finally stopped hurting last summer, when I noticed that I was not limping anymore when walking and hiking felt fine again. Amazing how little it takes to be thrown back again.)

Skateskiing 1:23:32 [3] 12.29 km (6:48 / km) +224m 6:14 / km

Tried this loop after I walked up a little bit to get onto the tracks. It was T-Shirt weather, so beautiful and warm. The snow was pretty good, they had prepared the tracks well over 3 weeks ago when the temperatures were so low. We profit now from that. On sun-exposed sides the snow is melting fast though.
Enjoyed this loop and did some well-needed technique training on the flat section up to the car from La Sagne.

Jogging 53:17 [2] 5.58 km (9:33 / km) +88m 8:51 / km

Jog-walking home from Sandra's "old" place; felt so exhausted and was not able to do more than a jog, walked in spots. Hope this exhaustion will pass soon. (Maybe a left-over from the exhaustive 2 1/2 weeks in Kenya, mostly sleep deprivation and mentally tough?)

Skateskiing 1:25:38 [2] 7.23 km (11:51 / km) +128m 10:53 / km

Met VĂ©ronique and Alexandra for a slow "ballade" (walk) on the cross-country tracks on LaTourne. Indeed, we stopped a lot and chatted and the pace was nothing fast, much slower than I'd usually go. But nice, sunny hours out and very good for our friendship and my speaking French.

Classic x-c skiing 1:27:01 [2] 10.59 km (8:13 / km) +163m 7:38 / km

After yesterday afternoon's downhill skiing my right knee was really swollen and painful this morning. Rats. It really didn't like it that much.
I decided to have a leisurely morning and went out on my classic skis and just enjoyed the scenery. I also took a phone from a friend and we chatted in the sunshine, I took some pictures. After about the half-way mark, I decided to head back to the end of the valley where I knew the tracks would go through some beautiful woods but it was uphill all the way. Now I started to give more of an effort and it was worth it. Beautiful morning.

Ski Downhill 14:08 [1] 4.03 km (3:30 / km) +677m 1:54 / km

Just "playing" with my watch a bit and wanting to see how much skiing I actually do when downhilling. Gave it up pretty quickly as I seem to forget to stop it while on the lift or re-start it when going downhill. Of course, I skied most of the afternoon and then at night after a fondue up on a hill, downhilled with our fitness group under the full moon back down. What fun it was.
I also saw the comet P45 again. Now I knew what it was; happened to see it in Kenya and was puzzled by it as it seemed way larger than anything I had ever seen and it sure wasn't Venus that one can usually see quite clear either mornings or evenings. Glad that I was finally sure what that big light in the sky was. Now we have to wait another 5.25 years again for it to appear on earth again.

Downhill skiing 1:00:00 [1] 25.0 km (2:24 / km)

First time this winter on downhill skis! Arrived in Adelboden in fog which cleared more and more. Very nice snow and easy skiing. My knee feels stronger than last winter, so it has been getting stronger over the year! Nice.
But at end, felt the familiar pains again so we took it easier.

Skateskiing 43:36 [2] 6.01 km (7:15 / km) +87m 6:46 / km

A quick ski in the fog. The morning started out sunny, but during the day clouds moved in and I really wanted to get out and try skating again. Shaky again as the tracks were well prepared but due to the very cold temps over the last 3 weeks icy hard which made it tougher to have the balance and technique. Coming back was easier already.
Stopped twice to get some phone calls.

Jogging 1:01:35 [2] 6.84 km (9:00 / km) +112m 8:19 / km

Recovery jog (after babysitting ;-)) with the headlamp in the woods starting from SaMa's new house (almost ready to move into!) and doing part of "my" loop then on pavement home. Here, too, I'd like to do it under 60 min which I didn't but it was dark and kind of slippery and slushy in the woods. Felt better though with my running.

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

Our first yoga class again for another semester; it was very good, the yin yoga with extensive stretching and the long, continuous flow of asanas. I was challenged and I think my arms will be talking to me from all the planks and push-ups.

Running 1:01:14 [3] 7.13 km (8:35 / km) +73m 8:10 / km

Didn't know where to go, the weather was so dismal, so I started out to the Planeyse but the trails there were slushy wet and my feet were soon soaked. Decided to do the lake loop after all even though it was longer than I thought I could run. But it was a good choice; the time though showed a very slow time, usually I'd like to do it under 60 min.

Running 49:57 [3] 5.16 km (9:40 / km) +168m 8:19 / km

Back from Kenya: first try of a run; did not go as badly as I expected, but time was slow; it also rain/snowed and the trails were very slippery and the melting snow very wet. Had fun anyway.

Running 49:57 [3] 5.16 km (9:40 / km) +168m 8:19 / km

We're back home: energy is slowly coming back. Still not very fast though.
