Orienteering race 3:09:25 [3] *** 12.4 km (15:17 / km) +600m 12:18 / km

Billygoat 43 at Moreau Lake State Park.

Had no expectations of finishing in the 3.5 hours. I'm out of shape and have been OT the last two years. Paul B and Paul R suggested I go with them. Good for me as long as I could keep up. It was OK up to about the fourth control. PB started to pick up the pace and it became increasingly difficult to keep up. I kept saying to myself "one more control" , repeated for each leg.
By 17 I could have dropped back and still made it in on time, but I kept pace.
I can't really say I was orienteering. I did no navigating and much of the time I had only a rough idea as to where I was. If I'm going to do this again, I'll have to stay healthy and in condition over the winter. Anyway, thanks Paul and Paul.

Note: the results show me in a three way tie with Paul B and Dave W (who was with us most of the way). However there were only two finish boxes. Dave and Paul punched at the same time and I was maybe a half second later. Maybe a little adjustment by the official scorer.

If I wanted to hang in for another 10 minutes, I could have found out how the Rube Goldberg machines made with sugar came out. The show was quite dull up to the point I left, but the results may have been interesting.

Cool and gray at the start. Sun came out and it warmed up 10 degrees.
Hoped to get more distance, but I was exhausted and my back was getting tired.
