Orienteering (Course setting) 19:36 [2] ** 2.83 km (6:56 / km) +70m 6:10 / km

Late in the morning (wanted to minimize control walk-off, but also was a bit hung over) went to set the Sprint course at Golden Gate Park. I walked to place the first/last five controls, then ran to put out the rest (this session). Managed to place all stands before the first starter caught up with me. The homeless camped at Control 9 seemed alert and friendly enough—they had a really nice tent, too, and were devouring their breakfast!—that I didn't offer the pastries I had bought, or dollar bills.

Having noticed that people were crossing a forbidden area during the event, and that (surprise) a piece of an impassable fence shown around it was missing and there was a trail right through it to Control 6, I ran out to place some streamers.

All controls stayed put. The course turned out too tricky and a touch too long. Many people had a problem with the line from #5 broken and a line to #9 going in the same direction—they thought Control 9 was instead #6. Many got trapped in the impassable green around the overpass. There are certainly better ways to show the overpass, but common sense should have told them there's no easy way down once you are on top of a bridge.

Note

Didn't go to the evening orienteering. Slept instead, and then went drinking.
