Orienteering race 45:58 [4] *** 4.38 mi (10:30 / mi)
ahr:152 shoes: VJ Falcon

Australian Relay Championships - Dunnedoo.
My favourite type of course setting - I don't think!!!
Broken rocky ground and route choice limited to running across spurs and gullies.
Such a contrast from the NSW Champs in the same area which I loved.

No real problems with the navigation except at the first control. Will be interested to see the GPS trace of my route because I reckon the control was placed at a distinct gully junction about 18m vertically down the gully from where it was shown on the map at the junction of three minor gullies. Needless to say, I had come high over the preceding spur, looked down at the control and proceeded up to the gully junction I had identified.

Orienteering race 1:25:55 [4] **** 7.55 km (11:23 / km) +469m 8:41 / km

Australian Championships - Dubbo.
Bitterly cold. I was cold and stiff and dragging my feet. Had many falls. Best effort was to roll anankle, face plant, and lose my glasses. No problems with the navigation.

Western Plains Challenge 1 - Dubbo
Same map as the JWOC Long Distance and some common controlls.
I was a bit disappointed by the standard - it was much easier than expected. The map showed the contour detail quite distnctly and the rock detail was mainly used to determine where not to go.

2 hr Score event Studley Park-Yarra Bend
Pleased with run. Felt comfortable, except on the treacherous sloping clay tracks. Misjudged how slow I would be on the track around the river and as a result had to drop some controls, but at least was able to finish on time. Glad I wore studded o-shoes. I learned that after skating around an MFR event at Darebin in street runners some years ago. It was still pretty slippery, though, and I had one severe slide which covered me in mud, and a near miss which nearly put me in the Yarra.
