Olmos Basin and Park, Sam Antonio, Green 6.0 km 18 controls - Lone Star O Club’s very first meet.
Control 1 was in a cave near the top of a steep hillside next to the creek. I remember thinking the area along the creek appeared to be mapped as orange, so open - but I was dismayed to realize that the orange was about 8 parallel contour lines. Crawled up the hill and slid back down 3 times before I found the cave. 26:00 min
Control 4 was a manhole cover on a slight narrow light green ridge in an area populated by several unmapped piles of trash. I was confused about what was uphill and what was downhill. Wandered for a while, then went back to the power line bend and paced/compassed right to it. 25:26 min.
On my 22:05-min walk to Control 10, I finally ate a Gu!
By the time I found Control 12 (21:54 min), I had been out for almost 2.5 hours, but I was at the southern end of the map, so might as well just finish. On my way to Control 17 (at 3 hrs 3 min), I checked in with the meet official sitting at the Start), then finished the course.
