Running 26:00 [3] 3.2 mi (8:07 / mi)

Time to get back into running. A nice easy 5K after work. I felt good after got warmed up. My back has been aching for a few days probably from the 5 hours of yard work on Saturday but it is feeling a lot better after the run.

Cycling 33:51 [4] 10.88 mi (3:07 / mi)

Quick bike ride just to get out of the house. It has been very rainy lately and we finally got a break today. Spent most of the morning and afternoon taking care the yard then out for this quick ride. My goal was to average 20MPH on this short course but came up a little short. It does have several traffic lights where I had to stop. If I get green lights would likely easily reach my goal.

Hiking 2:45:00 [4] 5.0 mi (33:00 / mi)

Another loop hike at Shenandoah. The start was from Dark Hollow Falls parking near Big Meadows. Across Skyline Drive then north on a horse trail where we soon saw two young bears lounging 50 feet off the trail. Got some good photos of them. Then on to Fishers Gap and across Skyline Drive again then descent to the Rose River loop. Headed clockwise on that loop with some up and down then long steep climb to get to Dark Hollow Falls and back to the parking lot. There were a lot of scenic water falls on the Rose River but hardly any hikers. The ascent was tough because we were still tired from the day before.

Hiking 5:42:00 [4] 8.8 mi (38:52 / mi)

Luisa and I did a long hike at Shenandoah National Park. This was the Cedar Run-White Oak Canyon loop. We started at lower the Hawksbill Gap parking lot in a fog bank. We descended out of the fog and the temperature climbed a little. Then less than 1 mile of flat ground and a trail lunch by the stream. The climb back up started after that. Wow, you don't realize how far you have descended until you start to hike back up! Final 1.5 miles was on a fire road that was long continuous ascent which led us back into the fog. Near the end of the hike we say two young black bears in the woods but they darted away. This was a very tough hike - our legs were screaming by the end.

We did this loop several years ago with our 2 kids when they were around ages 10 and 13. Based on how hard this was for Luisa and me I'm not sure how we ever made it thru this hike then. I remember that there was a lot of asking how much further it was!

Long, easy pace run.

Cycling 52:00 [3] 14.5 mi (3:35 / mi)

Bike to work and home. I got caught in cold and very windy rain on the way home and had not brought a jacket. Looks like I need start being prepared for colder weather now.

Running 53:41 [4] 6.2 mi (8:40 / mi)

Harpers Farm-Swansfield run. I was a little slow to start but it felt like I was keeping more consistent pace thruout the run. It was cool but humid.

Cycling 55:00 [3] 14.5 mi (3:48 / mi)

Bike to work on the fixed gear. I gotta learn to do a track stand so I don't have to unclip at the lights. Beautiful day!

Yoga 20:00 [4]

I did some P90X Yoga with Luisa after pedaling home. But the dog needed to walk so had to cut it short. I have not done yoga in weeks so this was tough.

Running 51:18 [4] 6.2 mi (8:16 / mi)

Two times around Centennial Lake for a 10k run this morning. I did the first 3 miles in around 24 minutes then started to slow down. This has been a very light training week with the rain the visitors.

I was surprised that there were so many people in the park this morning. The rain finally stopped and it looks like everybody was ready to get out of the house. Also, some high schools seemed to be having track practice so there were lots of runners.

Running 40:00 [4] 4.25 mi (9:25 / mi)

Treadmill run at the gym before week. With the constant rain and family visiting it has been hard to run this week.

Swimming 1:30:00 [2]

Lots of swimming and surfing in the Atlantic Ocean at Assategue Island. The weather was perfect for a day at the beach and tide was coming in making for some nice waves.

Running 1:29:20 [3] 10.0 mi (8:56 / mi)

Long run today. I'm pretty sure this was the first time I have ever run 10 miles. Felt good for the entire run. Got caught in a thunderstorm at exactly half way. Also, I ended up on the same route as the Columbia Bike About so saw lots of cyclists. Even passed a few as they were going up hill very slowly in the rain.

Running 20:12 [3] 2.3 mi (8:47 / mi)

Short, easy run. I did not want to overdo it after the very intense hill workout last night. I ran first mile very slowly then picked it up for the remainder of the run trying to go for 90% effort on the hills.
