Greeting...
I'm scoring this race 4/10. I was neglectful and had too much fun.
Usually, before a race you're supposed to mentally prepare yourself beforehand: revise all your techniques, look up maps online and practice making route choices, analyze peoples runs on YouTube and think what you would've done differently and start visualizing you own run, just to mention the most obvious. This time I regrettably did not do any of the above. The reason being I was lazy. This is what holiday does to a person.
I struggled to get into the map, making an absolute rubbish route choice on cp1 already. The next couple of controls went a bit better and I felt I was recovering. I was approaching cp6 when I completely forgot about my new "fast running, burst map contact" technique, because of my negligence as I've already explained. I made bad route choices, ran a lot slower than I'm capable of and made stupid mistakes. I managed to pick up my pace and regain some time nearing the end.
On attackpoint's graph, you can clearly see what I just explained. Referring to my goal of chasing superman: my line is parallel to his most of the way but dropped down a lot on controls where I made mistakes. Pretty much the same result as last time, meaning no improvement and thus the bad score. I completely blame myself for this and hopefully won't be so neglectful in the future.
To sum up: I was neglectful, causing me to have an awful run and not meeting any of my goals as stated in my previous log. It's not easy being this brutally honest to myself, but I guess it has to be done. Why am I saying I had too much fun? Because I did. Let's not have my pressure to perform and my bad performance, out way the fact that I, and I'm sure all, do orienteering because we enjoy it. From a technical standpoint, I did very bad and could've done a lot better. From a social and recreational standpoint, it was a massive success as always.
Fun story: On my way to cp21, whilst crossing a path, I tripped and fell face-first into a blackjack bush, directly in front of a couple walking their dog. Predictably they burst into laughter. After spitting out a mouth full of blackjacks I stood up and said with a massive smile, "Glad I could entertain you." and continued running.
Till next time folks
