Trail run (Trail race) 8:08:00 [4] 31.47 mi (15:30 / mi)
ahr:151 max:189 shoes: Hoka speedgoat 2

Nimble Bear 50k. Warm day with cool wind. 2 x 25k loops.
Drank: 3L water, 500 mL coke
Ate: clif bar, 2 bananas, orange and watermelon slices, 1/2 pb & honey sandwich, 1 raspberry huma gel.
Also 4 salt tabs + 2 Advil
First 15k sore hip; hard; dizzy; wanting to quit. Underfueled in first 2 hrs. Ate, took salt tab, rallied.
Afterwards, good mental game. Stayed present, scanned, managed, appreciated, didn’t think forward. Controlled and working without being overwhelmed. Ran all runnable sections even if short. Conservative on downhills. Talked myself through last few kms.
Tight skull and side stitch remedied almost immediately with salt tabs. Threw calories at all problems as first line of defence. Seemed to work.
In early kms - message popped into my head: I will run 50k today. Not encouraging mantra, but statement of fact. Also: moment of side stitch and tight skull, running downhill - I’ll deal at the bottom. Suddenly stopped and brain went: “salt tabs salt tabs salt tabs”. Took them immediately and immediately did better. Good paying attention to instinct.
Head in it (after 1st 2 hrs). Proud of mental handling in this event. Stayed with it and in the km I was running.
Not nauseous afterwards. Drank water slowly; had booster juice. Dinner later.
Very sore the next day - downhills and quads.
DID IT. Head to lungs to feet to trail.
