long slow run 1:56:00 [3] 21.0 km (5:31 / km)

Long training run - needed to put in the distance in preparation for the Point to Pinnacle run in 3 weeks. Tender toes and very tired afterwards, but OK.

orienteering race 30:30 [5] *** 4.5 km (6:47 / km)

Hot afternoon for our local event. Glad I was persuaded to do the shorter course for our team event.

Wednesday Oct 24, 2007 #

run 30:20 [3] 5.0 km (6:04 / km)

Tuesday Oct 23, 2007 #

run 30:08 [3] 6.5 km (4:38 / km)

A local run after work. I was very tired, but it was nice to be out running.

orienteering race 1:05:26 [4] **** 5.2 km (12:35 / km)

Hot day for the Victorian Long Distance Championships - although my course wasn't long by any means. I still managed to make significant errors in the first half of the course by not properly planning my route choices. Tried to make up time on the second half of the course and ran well, but not well enough to make up for the big errors. A disappointing run today. Great map and course setting, however.

orienteering race 40:51 [4] 3.0 km (13:37 / km)

Victorian middle distance championships on Deadman's Flat map - complex gold mining terrain. Made a couple of errors, but was overall quite pleased with my time.

rode to & from work 1:00:00 [3] 19.0 km (3:09 / km)

Rode to and from work today. Had breaky supplied at work. It was good to see some of the young therapists, using their bikes rather than their cars today. Got to the local primary school, nearly home, at almost 6pm, and met a young (younger than me) Bendigo orienteer leaving work for the day on a really flash Bianci road bike - I was very impressed!

Hills / tempo session 1:59:47 [4] 20.0 km (5:59 / km)

Hill training with JoAnne in preparation for the Point to Pinnacle event in Hobart. We ran up Mt Alexander from the north (on bitumen) and down along the south road, then up from the south and down the other side. It was quite tough - unfortunately this is the biggest hill around, and it's only a quarter of the size of hill we will be encountering in Hobart.

orienteering race 1:29:00 [4] ***** 7.2 km (12:22 / km)

This was a local event, with the course set like a middle distance course in gold mining terrain. It was a very hard course. Even though I have run on that map before, it felt like the whole area of the course was now territory to me.
I made many errors.

run 25:06 [3] 5.0 km (5:01 / km)

It was beautiful in the forest at 5.30 - well if one can't sleep at that time, one may as well be running...

Walking 1:30:00 [3] 12.0 km (7:30 / km)

Lots of walking today between the hospital site and the council, for various meetings, then walked with my friend after work.

running event race 46:52 [5] 10.0 km (4:41 / km)

Drove to Melbourne with JoAnne and we ran in the 10km Run associated with the Melbourne Marathon. For street running, it was a nice course, ran out from the G towards Federation Square, up St Kilda Rd, around the tan and back to the G. The hardest part was running right around the outside of the MCG before finishing inside. Jo Anne had a really good run, finishing 1st in her age class, and I was happy with my time - came 2nd in my age class.
After the run, we met Ilka and Julia (who'd done the half marathon distance) and watched Hanny finish 1st in the marathon.I Lunch in a Richmond Cafe was a great way to celebrate.

orienteering 1:01:00 [4] *** 7.6 km (8:02 / km)

Golden Sandshoe score event. Had a good time. Colin Walker and I earned the same winning score, so we'll have to argue who gets to keep the trophy for the year.

Thursday Oct 4, 2007 #

rode to & from work 40:00 [3] 11.0 km (3:38 / km)

Only rode part way home - picked up the car, loaded the bike into it and drove the rest of the way home.

run 30:39 [3] 6.5 km (4:43 / km)

Monday Oct 1, 2007 #

rode to & from work 1:01:00 [2] 19.0 km (3:13 / km)

Had a leisurely ride home from work - just didn't want to push it tonight. I suppose it's not really training then.
