run 46:27 [3] 8.0 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Asics Torano3

Ran with Ilka along tracks between No 7 & Crusoe Reservoirs. It was nice to run with someone, and particularly sweet because I'd left work early on a Friday afternoon.

run 31:33 [3] 6.0 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Asics Torano3

Ran the dark streets of Maiden Gully after work. There were two other runners tonight. I think when I run, I will count the number of people I see exercising as a distraction from the boredom of street running in the dark.

run 45:03 [4] 8.2 km (5:30 / km)
weight:53.6kg shoes: Asics Torano3

First local run in ages. Felt pretty good, and included a couple of intervals, 3mins, 1min recovery, then 2.5min.

orienteering 1:01:00 [3] *** 5.6 km (10:54 / km)
shoes: innov8

Orienteering event on the Smiths Reef map. I did the B course today, as I haven't run this week since Sunday. Had navigation problems with 2 controls
and lost a few minutes.

orienteering 1:24:01 [4] *** 8.4 km (10:00 / km)
weight:53.6kg shoes: innov8

State league event on Porcupine Ridge map - great area, steep hills, complex spur gully... Should have had a great run....Well, made an error at the first control, but made up for it with the speed I ran from that to the second... well almost to the second control. I missed it by about 30m and spent 28 mins looking for it and my confidence in my ability to navigate dropped to rock bottom. In the end I asked Peter Forbes where he thought we were, and it wasn't far from the control I'd been looking for...Well, I recovered for the last half of the run. Think that I should start orienteering events by walking, just so I can get used to the map first, before I run....

orienteering 1:38:05 [4] *** 8.3 km (11:49 / km)
weight:53.6kg shoes: innov8

Orienteering today on the Mandurang map, with a course that used good route choice legs, planned for parallel errors and kept us running across the same ground from different angles. I did very poorly with my ill disciplined concentration and made significant errors in 5 of the 11 legs. Thoroughly enjoyed it; ran all the way, ran an extra km (at least) and came last in my course.

Note

walked approx. 8km at a very brisk place today. I know its not training, but I want to register this anyway.

orienteering race 1:39:19 [4] **** 7.3 km (13:36 / km)
shoes: innov8

This was the longer event. Wasted heaps of time on the first 3 controls - just couldn't get my head into sync with the map, and kept thinking about the incident with Taffy Baker on the road to the event...he & his mate started the race at the same time as me and I kept meeting them at drink controls.Anyway, after telling myself that I should just do the whole course, not give up, I had a reasonable run after control 3. I wasn't confident with any controls, and was messy with some and did a 90 degree error out of 12, but enjoyed the event. Loved the openness of the country, and route choice options on the course.

Saturday Apr 10, 2010 #

orienteering 44:19 [4] **** 3.2 km (13:51 / km)
shoes: innov8

Middle distance event at Buckenderra. Thought I did a reasonable job of this course, but when I got back was told I'd miss punched. I knew I had been to all controls, so disputed this and asked the organisers to check the control boxes. Two days later I found out that I had been reinstated as official in the results. This was my best run for the holiday.

orienteering 1:02:15 [4] *** 4.4 km (14:09 / km)
shoes: innov8

Collector Hill map and day 3 of Easter. Had difficulty with 2 controls, which isn't bad for me. Still disappointed with my relative performance.

Sunday Apr 4, 2010 #

orienteering 1:01:13 [3] *** 5.3 km (11:33 / km)
shoes: innov8

Kowen Forest East map - day 2 of Easter. Apart from the difficulty getting my head together at the start ( and wasting 10 mins feeling totally bewildered), I really enjoyed the remainder of the course and had no trouble later on.

Saturday Apr 3, 2010 #

orienteering 1:26:07 [4] **** 4.8 km (17:56 / km)
shoes: innov8

Gudgenby homestead map. First day of Easter. This was a really tough map and although I enjoyed the course, found it very challenging navigationally, with poor visibility in some areas. As usual, I was disappointed with my relative performance.....

orienteering 26:53 [5] *** 3.2 km (8:24 / km)
shoes: Asics Torano3

Sprint event at the Defense Force Academy. Really enjoyed this - it was a beautiful sunny day, I was on holidays, among friends and family...
