Unspecified (Road bike) 1:40:00 [3]

An enjoyable bike ride from home to meet Jo Anne and Shane at Spring Gully, from where we rode through Diamond Hill, Kangaroo Flat and out to Maiden Gully.

orienteering 55:50 [3] 7.8 km (7:09 / km)

This was a fun event. Started at 8pm, and went for an hour, to give us a taste of twilight and night navigation. I had a ball- until I ran full speed (for me) into a thigh high rusty barbed wire fence and smacked into the ground. barked my elbows and lower thighs, and bruised a rib or two...broke my compass, and slowed down a lot....

long slow run 1:05:00 [3] 11.8 km (5:31 / km)

Just a long run to maintain some fitness, not really training...

Friday Nov 21, 2008 #

rode to & from work 1:00:00 [3] 24.0 km (2:30 / km)

Rode to the station, put bike on train, then rode to work. Did the opposite coming home, except that it was a bus coming home, train delays etc. Probably best to not risk the bike on Mondays and Fridays when the train seems a bit busier...

MTB ride 50:00 [3] 17.0 km (2:56 / km)

Rode the new road bike out to Marong, then south along the Calder Alt, then home via Edwards Rd. Bit of a work out for my legs, especially with a head wind some of the way.

Tuesday Nov 18, 2008 #

orienteering race 2:18:50 [3] **** 11.6 km (11:58 / km)

Night orienteering at Smith's Reef. This was the most enjoyable night orienteering experience I have had, and I think this is due to having a very bright light. I used my bike light, which has a headband option. Until this event I have never felt secure enough to run in the forest at night until I got this light. No falls! Only lost contact with the map a couple of times, but was able to relocate.

Friday Nov 14, 2008 #

run 30:40 [3] 5.5 km (5:35 / km)

Ran along Waiora Rd from St Hellier St early in the morning - it was raining steadily and very pleasant. Today is the first day I felt like running after last Sunday's mountain run. My quads have been too sore to consider running at all.

Sunday Nov 9, 2008 #

long slow run race 4:00:00 [5] 19.7 km (12:11 / km)

Triple Top Mountain Run in Tasmania (Mt Claude, Mt Van Dyke, Mt Roland). This was hard - very sustained uphill for a couple of kilometres at the start and then trying to run along narrow mountain trails in beautiful undulating mountain terrain, followed by a long steep treacherous descent at the end. Quads and knees were screaming at the end. The views are amazing. This is an adventure race organised by the local Lions Club in Sheffield to showcase their lovely scenery. It is a well organised event, but there needs to be some control over the way people descend the steepest parts of the descent of Mt Roland.
I proved to be much less strong than I thought. I didn't feel like running after half way through and was only able to jog a few parts in the second half. My descent was very slow. I was tired and the balance was very tested.

Saturday Nov 8, 2008 #

run 28:00 [3] 4.5 km (6:13 / km)

A short jog with Ilka in Kingston, down to the beach then walked home via newsagent.

Thursday Nov 6, 2008 #

run 34:16 [4] 6.6 km (5:12 / km)

Pushed it a bit harder and after a 15 min warm up ran a 5 min hard interval, then a 1min jog recovery followed by a 3min hard interval.

MTB ride 1:20:00 [2] 24.0 km (3:20 / km)

A bit of riding around town today. Left the car at home.

Tuesday Nov 4, 2008 #

run 29:28 [3] 5.8 km (5:05 / km)

Enjoying these local runs when I'm normally on my way to work...a lovely sunny morning with a fresh breeze.

Monday Nov 3, 2008 #

run 44:47 [3] 7.7 km (5:49 / km)

Morning run on my first day cut loose from my previous employer. Felt OK despite having put on weight over the last week of farewell dinners, afternoon teas and my sister's wedding celebrations....

Saturday Nov 1, 2008 #

run 46:44 [4] 7.76 km (6:01 / km)

Ran at Tuross Heads - south coast NSW where we were staying briefly for my sister's wedding. The morning before the wedding we headed off up and down a few hills and onto the beach. Great way to start the day! The wedding too place later on the same beach - beautiful place for a wedding!
