orienteering 58:52 [3] * 9.13 km (6:27 / km)

First street event. We used SI and I also remembered to use my GPS gadget.

long slow run 1:46:51 [2] 17.0 km (6:17 / km)
shoes: nike

Ran from home to Lockwood Rd and back, along tracks through Browns Reef. This was a regular long run route for me, and I hadn't been along this route for a long time. I thought it would be boring, but it was like visiting an old friend - I really enjoyed this run. Felt strong enough, although I know I'm getting slower these days.

orienteering 1:30:00 [1] 7.0 km (12:51 / km)
shoes: nike

One hour putting controls out in the forest for a beginners event, then shadowed a youngster around his course. This was a successful event because everyone I spoke with seemed to enjoy their experience. This was the second of three consecutive Saturday morning newcomers events.

run 33:00 [3] 5.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: nike

Afternoon run with Ilks. It was lovely to run with her, even though it was pretty warm & we were running pretty slow.

rode to & from work 1:06:00 [3] 22.0 km (3:00 / km)

GOG day; Got a bit cross with:
1. driver who didn't indicate that he was turning left into the train station car park, so I was giving way to him and he obliviously turned left.....
2. driver who drove around a left bend right next to me on the bike as I was turning. I was in front of this driver and had signaled a left turn. I'd be pretty sure this is not safe driving with cyclists; I certainly felt intimidated.
3. While I'm at it - last week I nearly told off an old bloke who drove across the bike lane directly in front of me as I was cycling along, into a petrol station WITHOUT INDICATING!
There - had my grumble. Most of the time cycling is fun.
GOG=grumpy old girl

Monday Feb 15, 2010 #

rode to & from work 1:10:00 [2] 24.0 km (2:55 / km)

Enjoyed the riding today, but saw a poor kangaroo which had been hit by a vehicle sometime overnight or in the early morning, then tossed off the road, but was still alive, not able to move away. Rang Ev, woke him from his pleasant dreams and asked him to contact the local wildlife rescue service, which he did. I think he needed assistance in waking up anyway.

orienteering race 58:21 [5] **** 5.9 km (9:53 / km)

Second race in the famous BendiGo Today event. This was a hageby style race with two loops and two separate maps. I'm still learning how to use the garmin gadget so Invis, with his usual helpfulness was loudly reminding me at the mass start to remember to press the button on it, but I hadn't learned about the reset option, so it just didn't register anything. Maybe next event I'll get it all together.....
The competition was quite fast, even on the B course, and this kept me running as much as possible. Because one of my goals was to not fall over today, I didn't run through vegetated heathland with rocky ground, unless I could see the rocks and anticipate foot placement at all times. In the first loop I was running close behind Peter Hill, and then in the second loop David from Bayside and I were running at similar speeds, although chose different routes much of the time. It was wonderful to get back into orienteering again!

orienteering race 27:51 [5] ***** 2.7 km (10:19 / km)
shoes: nike

First day of the BendiGo ToDay; a sprint run at 1min start intervals in the best of Bendigo's old mining terrain. Took my brain a while to sort itself out ( switched the Garmin on after 150m, then didn't realise the pink tapes were the control sites until I saw someone running to it and registering in the locked box on the ground). After that, as long as I chose routes based on the nearest track and went in via attackpoints, I was ok. My slowest route was when I went cross country through the green!
This was a joy and a delight!

run 36:00 [3] 6.0 km (6:00 / km)
weight:54kg shoes: nike

Ran in the dark with invis (who wore a flashing head torch so he wouldn't be). Probably my only opportunity to run this working week.

Tuesday Feb 9, 2010 #

rode to & from work 30:00 [3] 10.0 km (3:00 / km)

Hooray - got the bike back, rode it home. All good.

Monday Feb 8, 2010 #

rode to & from work 34:00 [3] 26.0 km (1:18 / km)

Rode the trusty MTB, while the roady is out of action. Had a couple of extra kms to ride, to attend a meeting on the way home.

orienteering 44:00 [3] *** 3.5 km (12:34 / km) +145m 10:25 / km
shoes: nike

This was the annual Fowl & Fizz event in Bendigo, with a score event starting at 7:15am. I set off at a gentle jog, watching the terrain carefully to avoid a fall. I was slow, and rolled my ankle enough to have to sit for a while before walking and jogging back to the assembly area.

road bike 1:00:00 [3] 20.0 km (3:00 / km)

Rode to town for a meeting at Sports Focus. It was hot and of course, I arrived all sweaty - not a good look. Its impossible to exercise and stay presentable at the same time. On the way home I fell off the bike as I was going around a corner. There was more gravel than normal on this intersection, after being washed onto the road by the rain on Sunday evening. It all happened too quickly, and I slid for about a metre on the road. Couldn't hang around feeling sorry for myself - there were 3 cars behind, so I picked up the bike and signalled for them to pass. I daren't look at the damage until I got home. It hurts more scrubbing gravel graze in the shower to get the stones out.
