Running race (cycle-path) 1:30:24 [5] 21.28 km (4:15 / km)
shoes: DS Trainers

Weston Creek Half Marathon.
So I managed to force this one out, in a personal worst time of over 90mins. At least I knew I felt crap (as I have done for a few months...) before I started so to then run a slow time wasn't too depressing. There were undulations, and a slight uphill + headwind all the way to Woden, but I didn't seem to make the most of the downhill on the return. Felt pretty dead at the end.
Took 5km splits:
20.39
21.16
21.15
21.45
5.26 (final 1.28km)

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Not much of either.

Running (streets) 17:00 [3]

Oh dear. 45mins steady was a bit too ambitious it seems so I called it a day at 17mins :s Just around Griffith.

Running intervals (streets) 18:00 [5]

12 x 90/30s around Narrabundah, Red Hill and Griffith. So slow :(

Running warm up/down (streets) 22:30 [3]

8mins w/u, "recoveries" (if you can recover at all in 30secs!) and 8.5 w/d.

Running (streets) 57:00 [3] 11.39 km (5:00 / km)

I did the Forrest - Deakin - Yarralumla - Parkes - Kingston loop. This should feel so easy, and it felt so hard! What is wrong with me?! :s

And now to a little rant about Easter entries.
Conrad and Zeb kindly hosted Matt and I while we were in Adelaide and Conrad even went orienteering himself. He was so inspired that (with a little encouragement) he decided he would give Easter a go this year (which is a big deal for a virtual non-orienteer!).
He tried to enter on Tuesday, 2 days past the closing date, and was refused an entry. Now we, committed and obsessive orienteers, had of course heard that the closing date this year was going to be strict, but it still upsets me (and Conrad) that he wasn't allowed entry into Sledge.
He is in the age group and category of orienteer that we really must be encouraging to come along and participate. Sledge or M21AS is a really important category which should be supported and there should be a push to get the numbers up. These people are much less likely to be watching the OA website regularly for approaching deadlines, and so a few may not realise that entries close three weeks out from the event.
I understand deadlines are necessary, but to have a blanket rule of no late entries (three weeks out) seems unnecessarily harsh and I'm sad that Conrad can't go to Easter and Sledge it up with his friends. Amen.

Travelled back to Canberra in the afternoon.
The quality of NOL races to me always seems so high, both in terms of course setting and terrain (and competition), and this makes it a pleasure to attend and worth the travel. These races were no exception and so thanks to all the organisers who were involved.
