Got up at 5am to watch the last leg of Jukola. Then plenty of lying around all day beside a lake and then in a pizza place. Now at the airport and our plane is delayed. Should get home at around 4am so that's super.
ps. I fell down a bank during Venla and my leg got caught underneath me and my foot/ankle went crack so now I'm hobbling. Might have to rest for a few days...

Venla, 'Jaanankallio'.
1st leg for SYO with Heather, Laura and Jenny.
The mass-start was awesome with over 1000 women's teams. There were so many of us rushing into the forest and it was a good physical and mental challenge to hold your place in the train but make sure you went to the right control. I handled the first part of the race really well and was in 34th and 1min down on the leaders until the last forest control. But then I made a real mess of that control. Was really close but couldn't pin point where I was. Should have just kept looking but stupidly decided to climb off the hill to relocate. Not a good way to finish my race!! We ended up 125th.
Was really fun, just a shame I won't be back in Finnish terrain again for a long while.

Venla training on 'Paarijoki'.
Jogged the first half and pretty much walked the second half. I don't know why bits were mapped as white because I found visibility and runability highly reduced and it should all have been green. Only wanted to be out for 60mins. The lack of visibility made it super tricky for me (found all of the controls I was after though).

Some more Venla relevant training on 'Usmi'.
Last minute decision to go training again. Just did a short loop in terrain which was tricky again but the forest was a little different and I could move better through it.

Late morning - in/near Tuusula (model map). Lots of small paths which were faint and criss-crossy in places. Not that confident and took it slow.

Orienteering race 45:45 [5] *** 6.7 km (6:50 / km)
33c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

World cup race in Tuusula. First 4.2km was a middle race in forest and then there was a map change to a 1:5000 for a 2.5km sprint. Generally it wasn't a bad race. A silly 90degree error out of c13 (30secs) but other than that no mistakes. There were some butterfly loops in the first part and they went quite well. The sprint part was quite straight forward but I just couldn't run any faster. Maybe could have attacked the course a bit harder; a bit smoother through controls. 37th place. Was really fun!
