Orienteering race 27:24 [5] *** 4.3 km (6:22 / km) +155m 5:24 / km
13c shoes: o-shoes

JK Relays, running for SYO with Jo S and Jenny.
Jo set me off in 13th but not far behind a pack of girls. Small hesitation at c2 but apart from that it was good and I felt like I was able to run at a decent pace. A small miss at c9, just didn't see the flag and over-ran it a bit, then got the rest ok handing over to Jenny in 2nd place. She ran really well and we held our place!
First time I've had to race in a windproof (as well as thermals/gloves), and it snowed the whole time I was out.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Warm-up.

Orienteering race 1:20:36 [4] *** 10.9 km (7:24 / km) +455m 6:07 / km
18c shoes: New sneakers

JK Long at Ashdown Forest.
For starters, it was really muddy. Fell down a really muddy bank on the way to c1, got soaked in mud including my gloves so then couldn't touch my map without getting it really muddy too. Lost a small amount of time on c2 but it seems like most people did (??). Threw my useless muddy glove away at the spectator control at 3, then struggled on to c6 where I lost a minute or so and Jen and Pippa caught me by 3 and 6mins. So not highly motivated at that point. Then did the remainder of the course plodding through the bogs and mud and snow. Shoes were a nightmare but I had no idea it would be that muddy. 14th place. Not a particularly difficult course and needed to run much more strongly obviously, but just couldn't do it.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Bit of a warm-up; no warm downs this weekend.

Orienteering race 36:08 [5] **** 5.2 km (6:57 / km) +195m 5:51 / km
18c shoes: New sneakers

JK Middle on Leith Hill.
Steady to the first 3 controls to get into the map. Then it became quite technical, I thought I'd take a safe route into c4 but it wasn't very safe it turned out and I lost 40secs. 5 and 6 were a bit hesitant but ok, then I lost 1min at c7! (bad exit out of c6). Got it together after that (lost a bit at c15, again bad direction) and was reasonably happy with 7th place. A hail storm picked up as I was running into the last control and the long run-in was a nightmare, couldn't open my eyes, using my map and hand to shield my face and try to make it to the finish. Most atrocious conditions I've ever run in (was wearing thermals and gloves of course but not enough to stay warm).

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Jog to the start.

Event: JK 2008

Orienteering race 18:07 [5] **** 2.4 km (7:33 / km) +55m 6:46 / km
17c shoes: New sneakers

JK Sprint at the University of Surrey.
Worst sprint race in a long time (ever). Shame, because it was a really good map. Did the first 5 controls well, then the weather got worse and I stopped looking at my map properly, getting stuck on the wrong side of a building to c6 (costing me a fair bit of time). The rest of the course was ok but I wasn't moving well and was on the wrong side of a building (again) at c15. Mean control placement at c8 and c15 I thought, and I got a bit flustered during the race which doesn't normally happen. 13th place, pretty disappointing as I know I can do a lot better than this. Did I mention it was cold?? :(
