Orienteering race (Sprint) 18:21 [5] 2.9 km (6:20 / km)
WOC Trials - Monash Uni, Melbourne.
I lost 20secs on control 2 mainly due to indecision and then taking the wrong route choice before changing my mind and running the correct way. By control 11 I was feeling a bit sick and therefore couldn't speed up for the last couple of controls across the oval.
Happy with the result though and I really enjoyed the course and the map.
Orienteering race (Middle) 33:33 [4] ***** 4.5 km (7:27 / km)
WOC Trials, Petticoat Gully, Ballarat.
My plan was to take it slow and steady due to the difficulty of the terrain. I went slowly through the first 7 and got them all fine, then we left the detail and had an 'easy' section where not only did I keep at a slow pace, but I messed controls 10 and 11 up, losing over 2mins. I was off line on both. The course got tricky again for the last 6 or so controls but by then I felt tired and slow and annoyed... I got the rest without any mistakes but was off the pace for all of them.
I think I should have run harder, picking up the pace when I left 7. But ultimately it was my poor middle section that cost me the race and maybe I should be more worried about vague stuff than detail.
