Note

Went for a scenic drive down to Cygnet. Nice easy day to end the year :) Bring on 2012! :D

Friday Dec 30, 2011 #

Running 46:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Torana 5

Eastern shore run with Matt (Bellerive and Howrah). Nice run but felt pretty tired.

Thursday Dec 29, 2011 #

Note

Thursday afternoon we drove up to Freycinet (Jas, Craig, Louis, Bryony, Matt and I). We did some 4W-driving out to a secluded bit of bush by a dam and found a great place to camp. We even lit a tiny fire so we could toast marshmallows and keep the mozzies away...
Friday we split into three parties, I went with Jas and Craig on a walk up to the top of Mt Amos and back down again with lunch at the car. We then walked over to Wineglass Bay and back pretty much straight away. Then back to Hobart for dinner with friends in Salamanca.

Running race 24:17 [5] 6.0 km (4:03 / km)
shoes: DS Trainers

Hartz Race to the Taste.
Jasmine said yes so I had to do it. The race actually went well - I felt pretty good (tho' quads lacked some spring after y'day), pushed hard and held a steady pace. Well I think I did anyway, wasn't wearing a gps watch or anything. The course was a tad longer this year as we had to stick to the footpaths for the last section instead of using the roads as in previous years.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2]

Some warming up at the Domain. After the race I jogged home from the Taste.

Note

Nevada Peak bushwalk (group of 7). The start of the walk was at the end of some logging roads out the back of Judbury past Huonville. We started walking at 9.20am and got back to the cars at 6pm. It was a good peak and once on top it was decided that we would carry on to Wetpants Peak. After bagging that trig we found a track down to Woolleys Tarn which then carried on and re-joined the track we'd come in on. It was a beautiful walk and I was very impressed with the track, considering... (...considering how secretive the walking club is about the location of the track and considering the usual bush-bashing I encounter when walking with my parents ;).

Running 47:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Torana 5

During the day we explored caves at Chauncy Vale.
In the evening I did a run on Ridgeway from the Waterworks (up the valley and Gentle Annie Falls, Halls Saddle, top of the hill, down the ridge to the Waterworks). I did my new trick of saying to Jasmine that I'll go for a run if she goes for a run. She feels she should say yes so she says yes, then I have to go running too. Ultimately I think it's a win-win :)

Sunday Dec 25, 2011 #

Note

Spent the day eating as much as I could; mainly chocolate, cheese and wine. Nice day with the fam playing games etc while the storm rolled over.

Saturday Dec 24, 2011 #

Note

Drove back to the mainland in the morning. Later in the day we played golf at Richmond.

Friday Dec 23, 2011 #

Running long 1:25:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Torana 5

I ran the Fluted Cape circuit again, mainly because it is one of the nicest runs in the world so it would have been silly not to. This time I ran from the shack so did the beaches twice. I saw another echidna (this one bigger and with greater stranger-danger awareness).

Running 1:04:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Torana 5

We went to Bruny Island on Wednesday evening. Today I ran the Fluted Cape loop and finished with the run along the beaches back to the shack at Adventure Bay. I saw a cute echidna at the top of the cape :)

Note

A good way to test iron/haemoglobin levels is to donate blood. Normal levels for women are between 115-165 g/L and acceptable levels for the blood bank are 120-165 g/L. I got 115 on my first reading and 120 on the second so was allowed to go on in. I'm happy with that score, I think it's pretty normal for me. Once I scored 112 on the 3rd try and they banned me from donating for 6 months :s (and sent me to the GP for iron treatment).

Running long 1:48:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Torana 5

A run on Mt Wellington.
From Ferntree - Fern Glade / Fingerpost tracks - The Springs - Chalet - Hunter's Track - Junction Cabin - The Springs - Middle Track - Ferntree. My favourite loop although I didn't really have the energy for this at 9.30am and the mist and rain came in for the last section so got quite soaked and cold.

Sunday Dec 18, 2011 #

Running long 2:21:50 [3] 15.33 km (9:15 / km)
shoes: Asics Torana 5

Four Peaks loop from Risdon Brook Dam: Grasstree Hill - Gunner's Quoin - Madman's Hill - Mt Direction. Pleasant afternoon for it. Didn't take food or water and was just running it by memory so may have missed a few straighter lines in places. The bush-bashing section up to Grasstree Hill has become very over-grown and I found the going quite slow (19mins for km 3). The rest was all pretty runable (apart from the steep bits!).

Saturday Dec 17, 2011 #

Note

Louis and Bryony's wedding at Meadowbank.
Lovely day and such a sweet couple. Welcome Bryony to the Elson family! :D

Running 43:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Torana 5

We went to Salamanca Market in the morning. A bit before midday, many from the Elson household went for a run. I just went from home - up to Mt Stuart and Knocklofty Reserve, along the front of Knocklofty and down the other side, through West Hobart and home. Lovely morning and run.

Friday Dec 16, 2011 #

Note

Flying to Tassie after work - down for two weeks!!

Thursday Dec 15, 2011 #

Orienteering 40:00 [3] ***
shoes: Asics Torana 5

Weston Park - ran around the course from yesterday. Didn't feel like running so this was a good compromise.

Running 20:00 [3]

Then I did an out-and-back along the bike path as I reeeally should try and run for at least 60mins occasionally ;)

Note

I got some new Kayanos today and Matt got some new running shoes too - all for free! My work has a policy where each calendar year employees can claim up to $250 on expenditure towards a 'healthly lifestyle'. I went to Paul's Warehouse where the 2nd pair is free, so..... thanks RET! :D

Wednesday Dec 14, 2011 #

Note

Divisional Christmas lunch/afternoon.

Monday Dec 12, 2011 #

Orienteering race 41:30 [4] ***
18c shoes: Asics Torana 5

Monday night Street-O at Cook/Macquarie.
My old local training ground so was good to see it all again. And had a map this time!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Sunday Dec 11, 2011 #

Note

Jas and Craig got to spend their first wedding anniversary with Matt and me at Tidbinbilla :D Earlier in the day we had canned plans for an intensive bushwalk in Namadgi due to weather forecasts and instead opted for some relaxed meandering along nature trails. the kind of trails that are sealed all the way. We picnic-ed and saw lots of animals.

Saturday Dec 10, 2011 #

Orienteering race 33:20 [4] ***
18c shoes: Asics Torana 5

"Special" Saturday street-O (score) around Bruce and the AIS. Lots of interstaters due to the OA conference.

Friday Dec 9, 2011 #

Running 41:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Torana 5

Drove to Red Hill and ran around there. Mainly around the NW perimeter. Still heaps of tracks left to explore!

Wednesday Dec 7, 2011 #

Orienteering race 39:36 [4] *** 5.3 km (7:28 / km)
15c shoes: Asics Torana 5

Twilight event on Mt Ainslie North.
A little miss at c2 - I was deceived by a section of ground pretending to be an earth bank which pushed me off line. Cute echidna right at the control when I got there though!
Picked up the wrong shoes this morning but they were fine to run in.

Running warm up/down 12:00 [2]

The traffic was amazingly crap for what felt like a backstreet. It was moving so slow I pulled into a side street to change and then ran to the event (6mins) and back after. It worked out quite well.

Monday Dec 5, 2011 #

Orienteering race (mainly streets) 38:36 [4] **
18c shoes: Asics Torana 5

Yarralumla Street-O (score).
Was fun. My back was a little sore but hey, what doesn't kill you only makes you a little more injured... :s

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Sunday Dec 4, 2011 #

Running 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Torana 5

An evening run from the Campbell Park offices on Ainslie and Hackett Hill. It felt ok to run, a lot better than on Wednesday. I've since given myself the all clear to run (hardish) tomorrow :)

Saturday Dec 3, 2011 #

Note

Thought about doing a little run today but felt pretty shit by 7pm and after a full-on day of shopping just didn't have the energy. My back is still a little sore which I'm surprised about but I guess I will just try to pick up the running slowly and hope it gets better soon.
NB. I have been doing some stretching :)

Thursday Dec 1, 2011 #

Note

Picked up a couch after work then went to the Theatre! Old skool.
