Orienteering race 1:19:07 [4] *** 6.9 km (11:28 / km) +470m 8:33 / km
18c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

I finally got to run on the infamous 'Trossachs'. There had been a lot of talk about this area and how unique and tough it was. I was ready for the challenge!
...And I had a lot of fun! It was tough going of course, but mainly due to the climb - I actually found runability reasonably good which was a bonus. I was worried about not being able to read the detail on the 1:15000 map, but the clarity of the map was brilliant.
No big cock-ups so was pleased, though some small micro-routes could have been improved. Maybe a bit lazy reading the detail sometimes. 3rd place, a long way behind Siri (NOR) and just pipped by pippa. Great weekend of races (though a little rainy - weather could have been better :P).

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Just a warm-up - too cold to jog around after!

Orienteering race 28:55 [4] *** 4.0 km (7:14 / km) +155m 6:03 / km
18c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Middle distance race on 'Touch Estate'.
A really fun course. Many short legs criss-crossing over a small but detailed bit of forest (small hills/ridges with a rock face or two on each). The longest leg was to c2 and I exited c1 hastily, only properly regaining map contact mid-leg. I took a good route (it turned out) to the left but lost confidence just on the edge of the circle, causing me to correct my non-error and therefore faff around in the circle for 30secs or so.
The rest went pretty well. I didn't take the quickest micro route every time but I made quick decisions and as a result I had a smooth race and finished 3rd, 19secs down on Sarah in 1st. Was pleased :)

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Friday Mar 26, 2010 #

Orienteering 30:00 [3] *** 3.3 km (9:05 / km)
14c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Barr Wood.
Terrain more runable still, though a little marshy in places (lots of places). Bad on the leg to c2, then ok.

Thursday Mar 25, 2010 #

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] *** 4.5 km (13:20 / km)
7c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Craig a Barns. Had been here before in '08.
Accidentally got pushed way too low on the way to c1. The rest to c7 went ok. It was kind of fun in a strange way (tough terrain but slightly more runable than Achray).

Running 20:00 [3]

To the start, and back from c7 via the start and the finish.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] *** 4.5 km (13:20 / km)
19c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Up in Scotland with the British Squad.
'South Achray' map.
Didn't like it that much. Pretty wet, impossible to run (sticks and stuff in the way) and I didn't quite understand the map in a few places. Meh.

Tuesday Mar 23, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Travelling to Scotland after work. Two day week - Yay!

Monday Mar 22, 2010 #

Running (grass/paths) 1:02:00 [3]
shoes: Walshes

Monday night run with Matt, Tim and Matt F. Small turnout tonight! Felt a bit tired but it was probably good to do a steady run to loosen up. We looped around Ashton Court.

Sunday Mar 21, 2010 #

Orienteering race 52:31 [4] *** 8.2 km (6:24 / km) +200m 5:43 / km
20c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Mynydd Llangatwg event (Wales).
Good area - quite runable with lots of pits and big depressions. The brown course was quite easy though and the good visibility added to that. I still lost time though... 1min at c1 (couldn't see the rockface), and 1.5mins at c15 (parallel error, too early). Was fun :) Nice day too.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Saturday Mar 20, 2010 #

1 PM

Running race 18:26 [5]
shoes: Runners - old

Midland Road Relays, Sutton Park. 3rd leg in the Bristol & West AC women's team (6 per team). 'short 5km with hills'.
B&W only had one women's team competing, and due to a few injured runners I was put in it :s The first two girls were pretty damn good and sent me out in 3rd place...(!). I tried to take it steady on the first hill and then go hard from there. Got passed by a girl who ended up running the course 2mins quicker (setting her team up for the overall win) so I couldn't really help that. Kept waiting for a pack of girls to overtake me but it never happened!! We dropped to 5th in the next leg then back to 4th in the next, then our killer anchor leg Rebekah ran 16.45 and we got bronze! (32 teams).
It wasn't that cold and I only ran in a vest (vest = singlet). Later the weather closed in and it was absolutely wet cold and minging. Matt and the boys (team of 12) got bronze too so it was a rewarding day out!

Running warm up/down 45:00 [2]

15mins warm-up, 30min jog cool-down - trying to remember where my course went at the CSC final in 08 (I was jogging around the gorsey area).

Friday Mar 19, 2010 #

Note

Long week plus it was raining so I gave myself a running leave pass.

Henleaze, Clifton, WoT. I think I saw at least 70 runners/joggers. The downs are like this massive jogger-magnet (but also heaps of runners in the streets too).

Orienteering 1:31:42 [3] **** 9.1 km (10:05 / km) +250m 8:52 / km
26c shoes: Asics Trail Attack - old

Merthyr Mawr. Didn't like the prickles.

Saturday Mar 13, 2010 #

Orienteering race 54:40 [4] *** 7.4 km (7:23 / km) +280m 6:13 / km
21c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

BUCS (guest run), Sallowvallets, Forest of Dean.
Some hesitations at c1 and c10, both were depressions on a slope with plenty of fallen sticks so I couldn't see them and run straight to them. The rest of the course was quite smooth and I pushed hard, trying not to walk too much up those hills! The forest was heaps drier than it was 2 weeks ago and you could almost say it was sunny. Good course by Franklin, and I liked the arena too.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

With Matt.

Running (streets) 15:05 [5] 4.0 km (3:46 / km)

4km loop with Chris's Bristol & West AC training group, from Coombe Dingle sports centre.

Running (streets) 15:10 [5] 4.0 km (3:48 / km)

4mins rest then we did another loop. I got a stitch after 7.5mins, had to jog it out but luckily it went within 1min. Ran hard to catch up to my group, then got another stitch after 13.5mins (chips at 6.50pm might be to blame).

Running 20:00 [2]

To the sports centre and back. Very cold.

Wednesday Mar 10, 2010 #

Sunday Mar 7, 2010 #

Orienteering race 1:23:19 [4] *** 11.7 km (7:07 / km) +270m 6:23 / km
27c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Sarum Saunter, Grovely Woods.
Ran the black course as a way of making myself do a longer run. The area was not very technical and quite featureless. Nevertheless I didn't get bored and had to think about route choice quite a few times. Got pushed around by the green at c4 and didn't concentrate to c5, losing time on both. Concentrated harder after that. Some sub-optimal route choices, especially to c10.
The biggest mistake of the day, though, was just wearing an o top. WHAT WAS I THINKING?!!! It must have been 1 degree at best. I had massively overheated myself while driving to the event and didn't realise how cold it was.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3]

Cold cold cold (to start and back from finish).

Saturday Mar 6, 2010 #

9 AM

Running race (gravel paths) 19:30 [5] 5.0 km (3:54 / km)
shoes: Runners - old

Went along to do Swindon's first ever Park Run! I am now the female record holder :D So yeah there were 30 of us and we had a run around Lydiard Park. I tried to have a good hit-out despite 5hrs sleep and 5mins warm-up. Time wasn't too bad considering current fitness and conditions. Jelly babies and cupcakes at the finish :)
I won't be a regular at Swindon Park Run - but will do a few in Cardiff later in the Spring... it's a bigger event there and most importantly it's a flat fast course!

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

A longer cool-down.

Friday Mar 5, 2010 #

Plenty of great excuses though so it's all right.
