Note

Went over a few high passes today, but this time in our car. Much warmer. Matt and I did get out for a nice walk around Tarn Hows and up to the top of a hill. The forest around the lake was very beautiful and I found some lovely mossy knolls to stand on. A very pleasant stroll - and took 3hrs in the end!

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Went to the Lake District. I was anticipating bad weather but I still got disappointed when we got there and the weather was really bad.
2.5hrs (1hr running) - Stickle Tarn - High Raise - Langdales. I ran hard up to the tarn but slowed to a slow walk later on as the marshes got deeper and mild hypothermia set in.

Running 42:00 [3]
slept:13.0 shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Had a good sleep-in today!! In the evening Matt and I drove out to The Chevin / Danefield. I ran on some tracks on Chevin and then on Danefield. Felt a bit dizzy again today, and pretty cold. I saw a deer which was cool, as it's only a little area of forest!

Running 22:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack - old

Went where the joggers go, around Waterloo Lake in Roundhay Park. It was getting dark though so I had the lake to myself and it was peaceful. It was also bloody freezing, I had on thermals and windproof!

Running 45:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

A run to de-stress - so much work to catch up on, aargh! I did the same run as Tuesday, but also did a lap of the playing fields near the park to spy on my hubby playing rounders with his work mates.

Wednesday Aug 26, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Just came home from work and went to bed. So so tired this week, something is not quite right.

Tuesday Aug 25, 2009 #

Running 41:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack - old

Out to Shadders via the other path and back through the park. Quite boring but at least it meant I could eat pizza for dinner.

Monday Aug 24, 2009 #

Note
weight:53kg (rest day)

Travelling back to the UK :(

Orienteering race 36:22 [5] *** 5.1 km (7:08 / km)
16c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Hungaria Cup, Open course 3. Went well (one long hesitation at one point). Breathing wasn't great.
Then walked over to the Long Final and watched that!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Jog to the start with Jas and Shannon.

Saturday Aug 22, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Easy day, still fighting off a cold.

Orienteering race 39:43 [5] ***
shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

WOC Relay, me-Kathryn-Hanny.
9th place. A more than solid result, but no thanks to me as I sent Kathryn out in 16th. I obviously didn't have a good run, and lost 5mins out there with two mistakes.
My gaffle was not favourable at c3, and me and the others with my control lost the pack there while we continued on with our hunt for ours. 3mins! very bad. Then I ran a section well with Liis from Estonia, but then tried to run extra hard to c9 and got lost on the way to the control. 2mins, really dumb. Shame, as I was enjoying the forest more today.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Thursday Aug 20, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Watched the Sprint qual and final. Kathryn's result was so exciting!!

Orienteering race 42:12 [5] *** 5.3 km (7:58 / km) +235m 6:31 / km
22c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

WOC Middle Final, 'Huta-Berc'.
15th! And only 5mins down on the winner, definitely my best race/result ever. Really pleased!!
Got into the map well and enjoyed the first loop on the first hill. Then just continued with good map contact to the spectator control and the finish. No misses! A little nervous on the last loop, but there was nothing there that was particularly tricky.
A really physical course, even more so that it looked. Often tripping and didn't feel like I was moving quickly.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Event: WOC 2009

Note
(rest day)

Very lazy day. Sore throat still there, but less of a headache today.

Monday Aug 17, 2009 #

Orienteering race 57:52 [5] *** 6.8 km (8:31 / km) +280m 7:03 / km
15c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

WOC Long qualification, heat C.
I came 17th so I didn't qualify. It is a shame I won't be running the final at the end of the week.
Well, what can I say.... I had a fairly good run. Not the best route to c1, went left (down then up) to play safe but no real need to and a bit of a time-waster. Then spiked every control until the second last - it was in some pretty low-vis stuff although it was marked as white, and I was slightly low. I relocated off the field/track below and headed up the hill again, finding it this time. I lost 2 mins.
I couldn't afford to make any mistakes it turned out, as it seems most people had fairly clean runs. I couldn't run the speed I needed to, and I felt quite weak at the end.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Note

Developed a sore throat Sunday afternoon, headache and lost my appetite. Felt the same today.

Note

ACCA exam results were released today and I passed, so the day wasn't all bad :D

Orienteering race 31:55 [5] *** 4.1 km (7:47 / km) +170m 6:27 / km
16c shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

WOC Middle distance qualification, heat B.
Bit nervy to the first control but came across it ok. Good to c2 and safe to c3. c4 involved crossing through a green hillside with no real safe route above or below. I slowly went through the green and judged height. I was really unsure but eventually came upon it. I didn't see the control so thought I was too low and ran away from it but shortly returned. 2mins lost on that leg. The rest of the course went well. Later on there were more features and it was easy to know exactly where you were. I felt tired running, but happy to have a steady run. 11th place.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Orienteering 20:00 [3] ***
shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Model map for Middle qual. Went ok. Always hesitating though, even when there's no real need to... should be a bit more confident and just keep moving.

Running 15:00 [2]

Walking to the start triangle and then the first control - a massive climb!

Friday Aug 14, 2009 #

Orienteering 50:00 [3] ***
shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Drove into Slovakia to 'Torzo' for some Long training. Really fun terrain (negative terrain). Lost my direction once for about 30secs, and a near miss later on. Otherwise good! Very peaceful out there.

Orienteering 20:00 [2]

Then drove back into Hungary to 'Voros-to', to check out some yellow/dark green vegetation that may be relevant in the Middle final / Relay. Was prickly and yucky, I didn't like it.

Thursday Aug 13, 2009 #

Orienteering (fast-steady) 57:00 [3] *** 5.7 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

A course on middle-relevant 'Olasz-Kapu'. Was ok. Missed c4 - some tracks indistinct and vegetation not clear... should have just kept going instead of hesitating. Rather physical - 10m/ks!

Running 15:00 [2]

Jogging to the start.

Wednesday Aug 12, 2009 #

Orienteering (slow-steady) 55:00 [3] ***
shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Most of a course on Tekenos. Missed a bit on one control. Saw two snakes! Took it pretty slow to check things out.

Orienteering 15:00 [2]

A little jog on Letras straight after to have a look at some depressions.

Tuesday Aug 11, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Travelling to Hungary.

Same as yesterday.

Sunday Aug 9, 2009 #

Running 32:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Out to Shadwell and back through the park.

Note

Went to Headingley for the Ashes game. Only 2.5 hours play in the end, shame England were so shit.

Friday Aug 7, 2009 #

Running (streets) 30:00 [3]

With Matt, round the 'burb.

Note

20 sit-ups, and 2 x 30sec ab holds(?).

Thursday Aug 6, 2009 #

Running (streets) 52:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

To Shadwell, did a lap, Shadwell Ln to the Ring Rd, and back via the Roman grid. I didn't feel great.

Wednesday Aug 5, 2009 #

Running intervals (track) 13:00 [5]
shoes: Runners - old

I did 6 x 400m (1min recovery):
79, 79, 79, 79, 80, 80.

I was suffering from fat tummy syndrome after over-indulging in snacks after work. My breathing was not feeling great either. 6 laps was enough for me today!

Running warm up/down 18:00 [2]

Laps, so boring.

Tuesday Aug 4, 2009 #

Running (Roundhay Park) 36:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Pretty slow as wasn't really in the mood. Heaps of mud and getting a bit dark in the woods..... Took some shortcuts on the usual park loop.

Monday Aug 3, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Easy week.

Sunday Aug 2, 2009 #

Running race (Round Hill Fell Race) 1:08:13 [5] 8.5 mi (8:02 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Went out fairly hard to keep the leading lady in sight, but she didn't slow down over the course. I tired a bit in the last third, but was running quite well in general. Quite a physical course with all the water/mud. 2nd lady.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Not much of a cool-down.

Orienteering 31:00 [3]
shoes: Adidas Swoop - old

Training on Buck Wood with Matt. Bracken was quite high in places, and am not sure I found some controls sites.

Orienteering 24:00 [3]

Then a short course on Baildon Moor. It was quite short actually as I skipped some controls and didn't really find many of the others. One of those days when you know that calling it quits is the right thing to do.

Running 9:00 [3]

Jogging to start, etc.
