MTB-O race 1:56:00 [4] *** 25.0 km (4:38 / km)

ACT Mt Bike Orienteering Champs, Kowen Forest (East).
I was running really late and struggled to get ready in time, missed my start by a bit as I was messing around with mapboard/allen keys etc. So then I jumped on my bike and got going..... and on the way to c1 I realised I didn't know the rules of MTBO.... did I have to stay on tracks??? I wasn't sure so I thought I'd better.
From c1 I started looking at track options, etc and it all went smoothly, and I was really enjoying it! Got hungry after 70 mins but in my mad rush at the start I didn't pack any food/gels or water in my hydration-pack (I had water on the bike though).
It was heaps of fun and now I am ACT MTBO Champion :) That one's goin straight to the pool room.

Running (tracks) 1:00:00 [3]

Up Mt Majura (first time I've been up here!) and it was very steep but I think it was worth the effort. Then down and over some smaller hills between Majura and Ainslie, then back to the car. A good mix of tracks, and beautiful hot weather!

Sunday Oct 14, 2007 #

Running (tracks) 50:00 [3]

I did tomorrow's run today so I don't have to do it tomorrow.
Up and down Aranda Hill a couple of times from different directions, then home via the side of Mt Painter.

Running (tracks) 1:20:00 [3]

Went to Mt Stromlo to check out the Scott24hr action. I stuck mostly to fire-trails and zig-zagged over the Mt watching the cyclists going for it. After an hour I drifted over to Bluett's West (or private property, I'm not sure) and ran on a track for a while before being turned around by car rally officials at a road junction who seemed quite alarmed that I was in the area. So I had to run back the way I'd come.

Orienteering race (Relay) 32:21 [5] *** 5.3 km (6:06 / km) +175m 5:14 / km
shoes: Old sneakers

Oceania Relays, 'Antill's Creek'.
1st leg runner in a team with Kerrin G. and Kathryn. Jo and I had different 1st controls but then came together at c2 and ran most of the course together. We were both pushing each other and it was a good experience for me as I don't seem to ever run with anyone. ever. Two split controls near the end allowed me to get a little bit ahead. Completely spent by the end.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering race (Classic) 1:06:27 [4] **** 8.1 km (8:12 / km) +305m 6:54 / km
shoes: Old sneakers

Oceania Long Champs, 'Boboyan Divide'.
Got into the map well and was in a good groove early on. Leaving c7 I was so consumed with finding a suitable tree to pee behind (too many to choose from really) that I wasn't watching where I was going. (30secs later) I started running again and lost 1.5mins at c8 due to uncertainty and poor judgment of distance. I got tired all of a sudden at c13 and the rest of the course was not as fun because I was so tired, but I maintained concentration until the end. It was awesome terrain and a really enjoyable course.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Friday Oct 5, 2007 #

Orienteering race (Sprint) 11:49 [5] *** 2.0 km (5:55 / km)
17c

Oceania/Australian Sprint Champs, Radford College.
1:3000 map with lots of buildings. Not a bad run but in hindsight I think I was 'taking my time' a little too much and should have raced a bit harder.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Running 32:00 [2]

From JGB with workmates Paul and Daniela. We ran around the lake and it was a nice warm evening.

Monday Oct 1, 2007 #

Orienteering race 31:47 [5] **** 3.9 km (8:09 / km) +170m 6:41 / km
spiked:18/21c shoes: Old sneakers

Oceania Middle on Honeysuckle Creek South.
Granite. Love it :)
I lost 40secs each on c7, c12 and c20, all because I stopped concentrating during these legs. So yeah that's not great but when I was concentrating I was really smooth and I enjoyed the course and the terrain so much!
