Orienteering 33:50 [4]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack - old

Bramley Woods Sprint event.
Well it wasn't a sprint, it was a 35min scrub-bashing session on a bad map. Didn't have fun.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

With Matt, warming up, and cooling off.

Tuesday Apr 28, 2009 #

Note
weight:54.1kg (rest day)

It was pretty wet outside, so, didn't fancy it. No biggie - I like resting.

Event: Tiomila 2009

Orienteering race 1:08:40 [4] *** 9.5 km (7:14 / km)
shoes: o-shoes

Tiomila, last (5th) leg for VSOK.
Went out in 54th position. A bit unsure, hesitant and zigzagy for the first 3 controls, then ran with a couple of girls for the next chunk of the course. Did the last 2km running more or less on my own.
No real mistakes, just not running very fast, I think because of the soft (wet/boggy) ground in a lot of places and the blister that hadn't healed since JK. Maybe I could have gone a few minutes faster but would need a bit of training in this terrain to get used to it. I finished in 51st position.

Running (Blue Loop) 49:00 [3]

With Matt, talking about Tiomila because apparently it's this weekend....

Orienteering race 32:30 [5] *** 4.7 km (6:55 / km) +90m 6:19 / km
14c shoes: o-shoes

JK Relay, Dipton Woods.
SYO team with Jo and Jenny. Jo ran really well coming back in 1st place, then Jenny also had a great run to send me out 3mins clear of Sarah and Rach (although I didn't know I had 3mins when I set off).
Ran well through the first 7 controls and felt like I was doing my best oing of the weekend. Then on the long leg to c8 I got pretty much all the way there but then stomped around in the heather for 90secs trying to find the shallow gully. That was a bit worrying but I eventually found it with no girls in sight so I hurried on to do the last loop and finish, thankfully avoiding a sprint finish! :)

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: o-shoes

My blister from o-shoes was so sore after 3 races!!

Sunday Apr 12, 2009 #

Orienteering race 1:18:02 [4] *** 9.8 km (7:58 / km) +305m 6:53 / km
25c shoes: o-shoes

JK Long, Detchant.
Bit unsure on the way to c2, but got there ok in the end, good through the short controls, then lost little bits of time through c7 - c10 where Rach pretty much caught me (crikey, didn't know I'd lost 3mins!). I tried to run away through the open controls but we were back together at c15 which seemed a bit low. I lost confidence in the green stuff and lost time on a few controls in that section. 4th place on the day (3rd place over the two days behind Rach and Pippa).

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]

Warm-up jog to the start with Matt, and a cool-down with Rach and Mhairi. Beautiful weather! Couldn't believe it.

Saturday Apr 11, 2009 #

Orienteering race 38:59 [5] *** 4.5 km (8:40 / km) +230m 6:54 / km
18c shoes: o-shoes

JK Middle, Kyloe Hills.
2nd place (to Rachael). Happy with this run as well. In particular because it was a tough area physically with lots of 'green' and I normally let myself get pushed around by that. Lost some small amounts of time on a few controls (even 30secs at c17!) but my flow was generally good.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Event: JK 2009

Orienteering race 18:32 [5] *** 2.9 km (6:23 / km)
25c shoes: Runners - old

JK Sprint, Newcastle Uni & Exhibition Park.
4th place. I had a good run and couldn't have improved on the placing, just dropped 5secs at c8 and a slow route-choice to c22 (15secs). The orienteering was pretty straight forward but I enjoyed all the controls in the park and all the changes in direction.

Running 51:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Down through the Park (high path) then some streets, and up Gledhow Valley on a path in the very thin bit of bushland. More streets to finish.
Then it was straight to Tesco to buy chocolate goodies for Easter. To be honest I was a bit disappointed with the selection (but came away with some bunnies and eggs nevertheless). And Matt says I don't even have to wait til Easter to eat them :D

Running intervals (streets) 20:00 [5]
shoes: Runners - old

10 x 90secs (30secs rec). Weird doing intervals in the light - lots more things to look at! :)

Running 23:00 [3]

10mins before, 13 after. The run went - Roundhay Park Lane, Wigton Ln, Sandmoor Ln, Harrogate Rd, Street Lane.

Sunday Apr 5, 2009 #

Running long 1:25:00 [3] *
shoes: Asics Trail Attack - old

Went for a run on Ilkley Moor. Took the o-map and ran on some paths to the end of the map, then a km or 2 further, then up through some heather to a trig, up to Buck Stones, back on to o-map and over to the Twelve Apostles Stone Circle (not as good as the stone henge). Matt caught me up here and we ran back to the car together. Would have been nice if the sun had come out. L knee not too bad!

Saturday Apr 4, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

I was going to do a run but things came up and well I didn't do one in the end.

Friday Apr 3, 2009 #

Running (Roundhay Park) 30:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Wiggly lap of the park, anti-clockwise.

Thursday Apr 2, 2009 #

Running intervals (paths) 28:00 [4]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

7 x 3mins (1mins rec). Felt not so good on the first few but better on the later ones (flat & downhill). Tried to run fairly hard.

Running 24:00 [3]

10mins before, 14 after. The run went through the park (high path behind the lake), up Elmete Lane, golfcourse, Shadwell, other path, down Roundhay Park 'valley' and back.

Running (mostly paths) 50:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack

Now that it's light I can run on paths, and they're really dry as well! Through the park, golfcourse, dirt tracks out to Shadwell, then via the other path back to the top of Roundhay Park, down the valley and a lap of the dam staying on the high path. I think I will call this the 'Blue Loop', as I'm bound to do it again, many times.
