Running 1:24:00 [3] 14.47 km (5:48 / km)

Matt, Florence and I went for a bushwalk in Morton National Park starting near Nerriga, although it ended up being a bit of a hike just to get into the national park and the dirt road we were on wasn't that exciting either. We reached the base of Round Mt but having found no track up it, decided to call it a day instead of bashing our way up. I didn't want Florence to be in a backpack for too long. After lunch we parted ways - I ran on along the (now nice) firetrail and got some views of classic Morton/Budawang rocky escarpments. I turned around after 25mins so that I would reach the car as the walkers finished their walk. Was a tad thirsty when I finished but lemonade and ice cream at Nerriga pub after hit the spot.

Running race (Tuggeranong Parkrun) 21:01 [5] 5.0 km (4:12 / km)

My alarm woke me up but before I had a chance to get up I accidentally fell asleep again! So I ate breakfast at 7.25 in preparation for my 8am race. We got to the start with only a minute or two to spare, but luckily the pre-race briefing went 15mins over due to much congratulating of award winners and the reading out of every possible statistic that could be recorded for Tuggeranong Parkrun. It turned out to be the three year celebration for the parkrun! It also meant that I could do a bit of a warm up.
The run itself went better than expected. With my now permanently (it seems) tight/swollen throat it has been hard to do much quality running so I was stoked to run a course PB (yes by one second. I’ll take it!).
We left shortly after to go home, pack, and head off on our weekend away. We had lunch in Braidwood, did a ~2hr bushwalk from Wog Wog, had dinner at Nerriga pub and stayed at Corang River B&B.

Orienteering race 30:49 [4] 4.6 km (6:42 / km)

Twilight event at Yarralumla Bays. Fun course on a 1:5000 but that meant I went out at "sprint" pace and rather tired in the later stages given the 5km course. I lost a bit of time on c2 but other than that just a few wobbles. Michael turned up for his third week in a row and got me on quite a few controls!

Running 41:00 [3] 5.66 km (7:15 / km)
(sick)

Up Mt Taylor via the southern steep path and down the zig-zags. I was going to rest today but had to bring a run forward due to Matt being away tomorrow.

Orienteering 46:00 [3]
(sick)

Went down to Honeysuckle Creek and ran one of Matt's courses (last chance to do bush-o before Easter). Apart from the snake encounter it was a fun experience. I was passing by a boulder with lots of sticks and bark piled-up next to it, the kind of place that you think looks really snakey but you never see a snake. This time there was one, luckily it was black so I just saw it in time. Needless to say I messed up the next control. Running time may or may not include a warm-up.
5 PM

Hockey (game) 50:00 [3]

Last match of the summer roster, that went fast!

Hockey 2:00:00 [3]

A two hour intervals session, just what I needed. It was ANU's grading day so couldn't really miss it.

Note
(sick)

Still sick, what a long week. My immune system is not working... what is wrong with me?!

Sunday Feb 14, 2016 #

Note
(sick)

Feeling very under-the-weather. Had to write-off the entire day, including hockey. I hate dropping out of things!

Running 46:00 [3] 7.55 km (6:06 / km)

I came down with Florence's bug overnight, two days after she fell sick, so I couldn't do a planned long run. I probably shouldn't have run at all really, my throat continues to get utterly smashed just a week or so after coming off antibiotics.
I started the run at Pine Island in Tuggers and headed south along the river to Point Hut Crossing, making a loop of it by coming back over Mt Stranger.

Running intervals 28:00 [3]

DFAT lunch run with ints - a variation to usual due to fumigation of the grass again.

Orienteering 44:52 [4] 5.7 km (7:52 / km)

Twilight event at Remembrance Park. A tough but fun course which took it out of me, especially with the heat. Great to do proper bush orienteeing so close to the city.
A friend from work came along to do his first ever orienteering event, he smashed the green course so hopefully he comes back to try an orange some time.

Hockey (game) 50:00 [3]

Saturday Feb 6, 2016 #

Running long 1:58:00 [3] 15.73 km (7:30 / km)

Mt Rob Roy (extended loop). I ran up the mountain first and then did the other loop in a clockwise direction for the first time. A very undulating run so quite tiring and I was as careful as possible on the knees as they were pretty sore nearing the end (I walked down the final hill). Saw two wedge-tailed eagles take flight really close by me at one point, magic.
